A couple of things, you should have added a little lemon juice and grated cheese to the oregenata mix and should have pushed the mix into the clam more rather than just " spooning " in on top. Other than that good job.
Leave the word "should" out of the picture. There are basic ingredients in a recipe, nothing is cut in stone. clams, oregano, garlic and breadcrumbs are the basic ingredients. What you should do is to use the ingredients for the best taste and look. Lemon can be used or not. Test your recipe on friends and family and if you put cognac in your clams and it was a hit then you did right.
