  • man i miss this incarnation of the band, they just arent the same

  • Went to go see Soundgarden this past week in Vegas. It wasn't until I got there that I heard that Mars Volta was opening for them. This song was the only song I heard from TMV and was hoping they would play it because it kicks so much ass. But they ended up playing all new songs and tore the place apart. Lots of energy it was a kickass show (A lot more energetic then in this video). Soundgarden ended up being okay but still great. Afterwards Mars Volta was what I remembered most from the night

  • @gizmothedog geez.. mars volta opening for someone? thats a bad move on the main act haha

  • DIENTES DE MACHETE CABEZA DE GALLO !!!!!

  • Cedric's voice is actually in very good shape here. Everyone forgets that motherfucker has to sing some of the most difficult vocal songs in contemporary music NIGHT AFTER NIGHT AFTER NIGHT AFTER NIGHT.

  • sounds good!

  • This was the first time I saw these cats and man, let me tell ya, they freaking tore the place apart! My a** was kicked after these guys smacked me up side the face with their chaos. Gotta say, that's one of the best live singers I've ever seen in my life; he's got such strong vocals and a nice presence on stage. Not a huge fan of their studio stuff but live they give you a really good rock and roll show.

  • My god this band kicks ass...pure talent and creativity

  • These at sonisphere is going to be amazing

  • which guitar is omar using.

  • @vinex19 I think that Omar is using an ibanez Jet King

  • I was there..... this show was AWESOME! omfg me and 4 friends needless to say hallucinogenics were involved. the show BLEW MY MIND had technical trouble at the beginning and they came out with the best attitude and played through the entire concert straight no breaks 2 2-12 hours or so it felt SO AMAZING

  • love his high pitch voice at 0:50

  • Fuck muse.

  • @deadk133 lol. Hell Yeah. That show was intense. Bonnaroo was crazy back then. I was looking for myself but no luck.

  • I was at this show and I was..........not in my right mind. *chuckles a little* Good Times.

  • @MisledUtopia1 So was I........both

  • for those of you complaining about his voice, what the fuck is that scream at 3:57 then??

  • the mars volta aren't about singing every note perfect. their greatness is part of that.

  • IMO these were teh golden years for them! Including amputechture.

  • If Cedric is such a shitty singer Omar wouldn't work with him.

  • Not seen a very good live vocal performance by cedric on youtube yet. Obviously not a good live singer. For all the fanboys who will jump to back him up just watch muse live. I've seen them live twice and matt bellamy hits every note perfectly from start to finish.

  • @CichlidTim lol why see them live if its exactly the same as the studio? might as well just look at a poster while listening to the album, completely boring. cedric sings the way he does because hes not affraid to change things up, because he doesnt care what others such as urself think. now go away we tired of ur invalid arguments.

  • @CichlidTim too bad muse are bad..

  • @CichlidTim i don't think hes a good live singer either and i fucking love this band. HOWEVER....Muse sucks

  • Comment removed

  • @CichlidTim They both sing differently.. I think cedric Is Great Live. Obviously you judge too much.

  • @CichlidTim i like muse but you dont have to be perfect when you sing

  • @CichlidTim what does it matter if matt bellamy is a better live singer, muse is still no where near as good of a band as the mars volta.

  • @CichlidTim

Matt doesn't have anywhere near the vocal range that Cedric has. Singing this high in register requires a lot of work. And Cedric does a really job with it, sometimes he tries to go too high and it doesn't come out too clear, but that doesn't mean he's a bad live singer. Let anyone trying singing in his register..its kind of impossible. Only Cedric can sing the way he really does. Plus, they don't play live the same way they do studio. They do a lot of improv.

  • @CichlidTim i used to think muse was a great band, and at one point they were pretty good. in fact at one point i was saying something similar to this to a friend. they were never near as good as the mars volta, but at one point i was categorize them as a "great band, like tmv". now though, i don't even know. i saw them live twice; one time in 2007 and one time in 2010. in 2007 they did a really good job, but at the 2010 they were pretty much terrible. they are pretty much a shit band now imo

  • God is he sexy. Theyre all sexy. Effin sexy. DO ME

  • Painful voice crack at 1:43 is painful :(

BUT I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS BAND NONETHELESS

  • @guitarmaniac327 Hehe I thought it sounded kind of good xD.

  • @guitarmaniac327 his voice didnt crack...

  • @guitarmaniac327 agreed i LMAO at that part. Saw the concert live by the way.

  • ilovemarsvoltaaaa

  • Doesnt matter how many best live acts muse won, when you put these two bands live on the same card mars volta completely carve them up live. Cedrics the only singer in the world ive ever seen who can do like dunno what you could call it like ballerina tricks with the mic while singing, fucking epic the energy he puts in

  • @TheTruth5555 Yeah but his vocals suck live though. He never never hits anything. they must have to vocal tune everything he sings in the studio.

  • Damn he can truly hit those high notes, didn't think he'd be able to reach them live!

  • @rominda98 saaaaaaaaaame, watched a live vid because i seriously doubted he could nail it as well as the recorded version. cedric-1 me-0

  • I was at this bonnaroo And i tripped balls to this show i didnt leave centerroo or should i say couldnt find my way out till lke 7:30 am friken awsome

  • pridgen is technically a better drummer but jon has more subtelty

  • meh. technically? idk man. pridgen has that ubertechnical sounding style already. theodore plays loose but COULD play tight too. his loose feeling beats the shit out of pridgens hard-ass drumming imho, not to say I don't think pridgen is great, but there's a reason Deloused is still their undisputed best album.

  • @rustinpeacez Deloused is one of the worst mastered CD's in history. Thx Vlado Meuller

  • @ryanlk ? Seriously? That album is beautiful.

  • @Colenelly I mean its something engineers laugh about, how a major label album could have been beaten to death like this and then released? If they would have backed off the limiting a bit, (rich costey) is an amazing mix engineer and contributes so much to final album, but the mastering is horrible. thx vlado meuller, another example Death Magnetic, or Californiacation, just sound terrible.

  • Pridgen is better than Jon. End of story. I love Jons stuff. But Pridgen has a way better sound. I agree that he also drives the band.

  • @Basroil90 straight up, Pridgen drove the band. Jon supported the band.

  • gosh i wish they still had Jon Theodore...

  • @Skizla F that, their new drummer is insane and fits perfectly with the band.

  • @Dai3eb Deantoni sucks compared to Theodore, sorry. Really not even remotely close. Deantoni plays a lot of stock electronica beats from that previous band he was in, and his fill work is total shit. Constantly messing them up, hitting off time a lot, just not a good rock drummer. Theodore takes a shit all over him with this kind of music.

  • @trenken You obviously haven't listened to Astroid Power-Up. The way Deantoni switches from meter to meter within dense polyphonic mixes, throwing out some of the most innovative drumming to date.

  • is ben stiller playing bass?! lmao

  • @jonjonwhii ASSHOLE!

  • I was there! This show was fucking awesome. They rocked that whole summer!

  • listen to that screech at 1:43 ... Listen to it a few times, as a matter of fact!

  • SPOT ON performance!!

  • check out juan towards the beginning of the video, he's groovin baby! haha

  • nice! nice! nice! yes! ; )

  • Yo, I drove from MInnesota to Tennesee to watch this, and my girlfriend just sat outside the tent, and did whatever, ha, we aren't together anymore, but she should have known she was seeing the James Brown from Texas, oh, some people, her name is Jessica, for all you who follow these things..

  • we know now my friend... we know now.

  • spanish rock is sick

  • Amo todas las partes en español!

  • Was at this show. I remember this song made my weekend. first time i got it live. Still the best live version i have ever experienced 16 shows deep.

  • God I love this band.

  • Does any person know the equipment of the singer, Cedric Bixler-Zavala? Vocal mic? Vocal effect pedals? Vocal mic stand? XLR cable? Is it a SENNHEISER MD421-2 vocal mic? Please help. I have been searching for a very long time.

  • i love this fusion

  • cool story bro

  • I like cedrics voice in the lower register. Don't know why people are going on about it, he writes ridiculously ambitious parts, and its not like he doesn't give it his all! Incredible band

  • this is the real mars volta.

  • TUNE

  • haha

  • Juan looks like Ben Stiller with that hair.

  • Hahaha. He does.

  • LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

  • I'm sure if Cedric's singing sounded like shit then no one would listen to him sing. As simple as that. I personally like the way he sings; it's very realistic and unique. Plus he has an amazingly strong mixed voice.

  • wtf are u serious?

  • well u my friend are a complete dumbass, u must have been born with an extra chromosome or something cause cedric's singing ability is way better than most other

  • This performance is way better than most of their other ones, I'll give it that. I like the mars volta...or...their records. But listen to how many times he sings flat and does not hit the notes. On the records he goes way fucking high, but he never does it live, why? Because he cant sing that high. Its bullshit, end of story. Bands that sound great on their records and then cant even come close to recreating it live, suck, period.

  • you idiot, you try singing with a falsetto for 9 years and see how high you can hit the note after you hit the blunt for so long, who cares if you think they suck get the fuck out of here, period.

  • This was never about if I could hit the high notes or not. I'm not in the fucking MV, am I? Well then that is pretty fucking irrelevant. I don't care about what drugs he does either, so fuck off with that shit.

I love how you react to someone's opinion of a singer as if they insulted YOU or something. Are you cedric's mother by chance? I don't THINK that cedric can sing, you THINK he can. Deal with it shit face. A message board was made for different opinions, not just one.

  • keep it to you're self then.

  • i disagree with you on the singing, but that is the most badass defensive argument ive heard. mind if i steal it?

  • Singers don't hit the high notes on live performances.... just about ever. The reason being that they're on tour, and destroying their voice to hit a couple high notes in the beginning would leave it ruined for the rest of the tour. It's higher on record because he only has to do it get it right once. On a tour, when he's singing multiple songs, in almost all of which he hits a super-high note, it's going to be hard to recreate a perfect performance every time, especially when tired.

  • i think he can to sing as high than the records but, he knows about the trouble in his troat if he does that too many times!! he could loss his voice as many artist that try to give it all in every performing!! so it's better to used it just a few times, and when it's so necesary!!

    it's just a theory hehe

    greetings

  • Yeah Robert Plant used to do the same thing.

  • isJuan locking in with Jon's drumming or no? It looks like he's just staring Jon down from 2:52 on, kinda scary.

  • @pornoplaylist

No. That is the steely eyed face of boredom, or plain incompetence (eye on the prize, *hired gun*, eye on the prize . . . ):

"Yeah, some of the stuff he plays is so crazy I can't follow."

WE KNOW JUAN, COULD YOU JUST TRY TO SWING WITH IT A LITTLE YOU ANEMIC WHORE???

  • Wow, Cedric's voice sounded particularly rich and beautiful here.

  • ahh I was at this show

  • NO WAY! They have a couple Orange heads, That's like my fav amp heads.

  • i was at this show. I've seen them live several times and this was by far the best.

  • Wow. I'm impressed. When he really tries he's excellent live.

  • Cedric is one amazing singer!

  • cedric is sooo high! :P they're great live.. ! though this song needs its John! :P

  • it's jon

  • no man, john frusciante...

  • ohh lol werd, guess i kinda jumped to conclusions, people are always calling jon theodore john and i think he deserves atleast to be called by his proper first name, only one letter people you can do it :p

  • it's noooooooooot jon!!!! John Frusciante!!! the guitarist for christ's sake!! the one who plays the two first solos on the album version!!

  • what the fuck are you talking about kid, we just went through that. you know nothing about volta or how to read so shut your mouth

  • Cedric sounds remarkably on key here.

I loved it, but I would have liked to hear the third solo...

  • do they even play this song anymore?

  • I'm pretty sure that they don't, just like Eriatarka.

  • They played Eriatarka in the early part of last years tour.

  • its too complicated, they cant play the full version live without John...

  • not complicated at all. they played it without john all the time. omar solos instead of john. that simple

  • ? What are you talking about ?

  • I love the way Cedric moves.

  • good song this ^_^

  • k thx :)

  • They Use Orange Amps!!!!!!

    Legandary!

  • Comment removed

  • just because it was your opinion doesn't make it safe from stupidity, when it's a more viable statement then you will have my respect. Carry on.

  • sorry didn't mean to affend you or Cedric i'll remove my "stupid comment"

  • Whenever you have the chance 'homie' ask them both (Omar and his father) where are they from? What they call 'patria'. Go ahead, ask them you cockroach.

  • cedric's vocals are great on this one

  • jon theodore uber alles :)

  • hair looks like a fluffy dog, that's why i like it

i could pet that fluffy head all day

  • cedric's singing is perfect here...

  • The Mars Volta is a truly good band, gifted singer...gifted guitarist. Not just that he is from Bayamon Puerto Rico just where I live and he is my inspiration to show the world that good musicians come from here too ^_^

  • God knows fucking PR needs some modern day talent to show that the Island's offering to music isn't only Reggaeton. I got nothing against it, and it's fun for parties and all, but that shit all has the same bea, just about lol. And lets face it, it's not always on the creative side of thngs.

  • I like hip hop like I like anything, but why on that Island is suddenly even the most simplistic but catchy sound of our ethnic instruments being constantly raped and reduced mostly to mere samples. People are too lazy these days to even shake a pair of maracas. And the fake instrumental work in Reggaeton tends to show greatly in the quality of the sound. electronica is great, But it should be used more to achieve sounds not common to what we already can get through conventional means.

  • Something about this song irks me.

  • love the druming.

  • How exactly is this boring? It has incredible musicianship and very diverse playing with an incredible array of instrumentation behind it, making for an extremely full and powerful sound with amazing progressions.

If that's boring, then nothing can excite you.

  • i'll take back my words... im sorry..

cos i didnt get through this song in guitar hero.. on drums.. thats how i have the hatred on it.. but i think its kinda childish to think that way... its a great song.. in the end.. as pretty much like what you said...

  • jajajajajajajajajajajajajajajajajajajajajajajajajaja!!!!!!!

    you boring

    Stupid son of bitch

  • HOLY CRAP this band rocks so much!! They are my favorite band!! I cant believe this song is on guitar hero!!

  • I HAVE TO SEE THESE GUYS LIVE!

  • Omar Rodriguez Lopez is Puerto Rican (Born in Bayamon, Puerto Rico), And Cedric Bixler Zavala is Mexican American (Born in Redwood City, CA), Anyways who FUCKING cares where they from.

  • apparently you

  • lol

  • yeah. THere from Mexico... :)

    there badass.

cedric is from mexican and well OMAR RODRIGUEZ LOPEZ(guitar player) yes hes from mexico or porto rico i heard. idk but yeah there all latin

  • cedric is not from mexico, cedric is from el paso texas.

  • Mexican, born in CA and resided in El Paso, now in Cali again...

  • I think that squeak was kind of cool

  • 1:43 sounded hilarious haha

    but I love this song

  • BEST BAND EVER ! ! !

  • I feel better about myself now that i know even he has a hard time hitting those high notes.

Those who play GH vocals know what im talking about...

  • Heck yeah man

  • LOL its kindda easy for me just because i have woman's voice

  • They r from US but they sing sometimes english and sometimes spanish

  • their all spanish rite?

  • Cedric, the backing guitarist, the bassist, and the woodwind player are all Hispanic, Omar and his brother are Puerto Rican, the keyboardist and the current drummer are black, and the former drummer and the sound designer were white. Diverse bunch of guys to say the least.

  • Jon Theodore was Haitian.

  • do they have mexican roots or something?

i´ve seen them performing live, and they had a mexican flag decorating the table where the DJ was.

  • The story I heard was that someone threw the flag on stage and they adopted it. Cedric Bixler-Zavala (the singer) is Mexican, though.

  • Cedric is Mexican.

  • omfg not tryin to sound dorky or anything but on guitar hero he sounds like a chick.

  • He does have a higher pitched voice which you will learn to love if you are new to the mars volta via guitar hero. Prepare for your taste in music to drastically change if you are not used to volta. If you are then sweet.

  • yea im getting used to it to, but i dont really care if his voice is is high pitched and sounds like a chick, this song RULES!!!XD

  • mars volta La neta

  • esta muy bueno este tema, do you know what is he singing???

  • bonnaroo is a zoo

  • not bad.

  • beautiful :)

  • gardenia

    your a moron

  • no, i'm not... i was just talking about what i think. if you disagree with that opinion, and instead you just insult me, without arguing why, just makes YOU a moron.

  • por lo demas, lo que dije no fue en tono de critica, pues a mi me encantan las letras de cedric, tengan conexion o no, tengan sentido o no... la musica de mars volta trasciende eso y va mucho mas alla... es solo eso...

  • by the way, the lyrics in spanish are as meaningless and unsense as the lyrics in english so... who cares...

  • !!!!!tu apellido se cambio

    sin ojos me quieres dar

    una historia sin mi madre¡¡¡¡¡¡

what do you mean by meaningless??????

They make sense if you try to understand the album as a story.

  • that's right, i agree with that completely, but i was talking about the songs as isolated components... if you just pay atention to them apart from the rest of the songs in the album, you probably will don't understand it and will see them as meaningless and unsense as i said before.

    aguante cedric!!!

  • muerete pendejo

  • who cares if it's spanish! i'm not spanish at all and i love it when he sings in spanish, cuz it sounds cool and i try to figure out what he's saying since i'm in my 2nd year of spanish. point being...they're amazing! spanish or not!
