  • Correct me if im wrong but i think teritorry is the problem. Their isnt enough space to compensate for both of them.

  • thats why u never get 2 maybe 1 or 3 but never 2

  • i think there try to spawn

i have 3 baby pacus and they play like that but when another fish trys to attack they back down..

  • I had these things and I thought they can grow only do the size of a silver dollar, but I was wrong....they grow so fast and whew, I gave them away as they cracked my tank when they get into a brawl or startled

  • been a yr since this post. what ever happened to the pacu's?

  • @xVeRRuCkTx : Hey thanks for keeping in touch. I donated the Pacus to a public aquarium a few months after uploading this video. Moving them was very tricky! The aquarium sent a couple of professionals though with a barrel. Netting them was a pain and they put up a huge fight spraying water all over my walls!

They were moved to a giant 14' x 6' x 5' community tank that had approximately 10-12 pacus, a few of them 3x times their size!

  • they still look crammed to me

  • I hope that you have separated these two. Some pacus prefer to be solitary in adulthood.

  • There's a reason they're called tank busters.

They can easily destroy many many things.

Red Bellied Pacu is naturally a fish that prefers fruits and nuts. Have you had any luck weaning them off of the meat yet?

BTW, Why would you feed them goat hearts?

  • Hope these are in a bigger tank by now if not i hope u had a good mop and good insurance policy ;)

  • overcroved

  • they brake tanks like its nothing

  • "smaller than a foot in length, meant to house a single flowerhorn"

WTF? Flowerhorns get like a foot long.

Hopefully you realize that pacu get 2 feet long when they are adults, so unless you can seriously get a tank large enough, give them to someone who can.

  • True bro. I am positive that mine is easily going to reach 3 feet the way hes growing. He's already over one foot and just two years old (approx). I have been told they can live up to 30 years. I agree with you completely. If i cannot upgrade my tank soon, i will be giving them away to someone who either has a large aquarium or a pond

  • like the guy below me pointed out, meat makes them grow. meat has 2 things in it that r like growth hormone to fish, fat and protein. if u want them to stay at a smaller size then feed frozen foods, they wont grow as fast. feed them only 1 piece a day and they will stay at a managable size.

  • Yes thats true but its too late now as the big pacu is already close to 15' and throws up a fuss if fed anything other than raw chicken or goat heart. I have successfully managed to feed him an entire tomato once and he didn't puke it out which is a very encouraging sign. Slowly and steadily, i will move them to a mixed diet of tomatoes and may be fruits so that their size can be under control.

  • not beef heart

  • frozen food has just as much protein.

  • what frozen food r u lookin at? freeze dried krill has about 60% protein whereas frozen only has about 6%.

  • well no shit, it doesn't have the water removed, plus its packaged in water. That doesn't mean it has less protein, just more water.

  • Read the back. its right there

  • Good point. I think i will have to take the second option as these monsters would require at least an 8' tank to swim comfortably.

    Any takers?

  • more like 3' the bigest was 5' long and 3' tall

  • pacu don't get 5 feet long.

  • Not in home aquariums but in the wild they get up to 4.5 feet so 5 feet wouldn't be too far off.

  • HEY BRO!!! if you get that bigger tank they will settle down a little bit, the larger one feels that its his tank and wants the center for himself and fights the smaller cuz the smaller one's always up in his grill from the small tank. Also STOP FEEDING IT GOAT HEARTS!!! dont feed them for a week then put some slightlhy chopped broccoli and carrot in there, then feed sparingly 2-3 times a week and their size will be contained well. You can give them meat occasionally, bit stick to da veggies!!

  • i tried the starve and switch diet many times but with very little success. They eat almost anything i throw at them, but the problem is that they almost always puke out veggies and fruits. I guess they have been spoiled rotten on meat now. I am trying to mix it up. Will let you know if there is any success.

  • question i have two pacus one of them is beating up the other tearing fins can i still keep both off them would they stop. if u see my video u can see the one thats getting beatup due i have to seperate them

  • Hi proline. Your pacus are still small but i do understand that they can do significant damage to your aquarium setting if they continue to fight (uprooting artificial plants, shifting rocks, etc). Over a period of time when they become a considerable size, you may need to separate them or get a glass separator for your tank. Although as they mature, the intensity with which they fight reduces, their sheer mass can cause a lot of damage to their bodies, settings or worse, your tank glass!

  • still r they together or u seperate them?

  • Still together. Recently the fights had become very violent and the smaller one always ended up with torn fins as my larger pacu has very sharp and prominent teeth. But strangely, now for the last 7 days, i have stopped switching on the aquarium light and the fights have reduced. Most of their scars and torn fins have been healed.

  • You better watch your glass mate! Pacus are glass breakers ,when kept in small tanks!Nice pacus.

  • you are absolutely correct bro ... just the other night they panicked like crazy on flipping the light switch. There are scratches appearing all over the insides of the tank. Will have to upgrade to a 15 mm thickness St. Gobain glass aquarium which is at least 4-5 feet in length. I doubt even that will be able to hold them for too long though. They are eating 5 goat hearts a week already! I can see them growing each day!
