Nice work! When I saw the approach of that first one, I was pretty sure you weren't going to end up in one piece, but the landing was really smooth! Awesome!
NICE autos man! I know that your first few times from that high up had you puckered up! I just started doin autos a day or two ago, from about eye level. once I get the feel for it I'll go higher.
Well they are very tricky on the 450. Firstly with the heli I have found that you have to have a really nice smooth running drive train, the belt needs to be fairly loose and lubricated in my experience. I find the heli autos best with carbon blades(I have only tried the SAB ones) I normally fly with woodies but carbons for auto's. practise the approach alot and I learned on a larger heli first as the 450 is pretty unforgiving. come down with lots of forward speed and around -4 degrees of pitch
then as you get close to the ground (maybe around 10-15 ft high you can start the flare. depending on the conditions (wind mainly) develop the flare to get to about 1 ft from the ground (this is the tricky bit really) I tend to take the pitch from around -4 in the descent to about 0 in the flare I find this gives me the most headspeed/hang time. if it is done correctly you will have enough energy to land nicely. If you mess it up going around from the late stages can easily end in a visit to
the model shop as you can strip the main gear or if the headspeed was too low already end up with a heli spinning around wildly! I tend to stick with it once I am below about 30 ft, if you mess up and are over soft ground (beach good, soft grass good, tarmac and concrete bad :-) )then an arrival tends not to cause too much damage and I have got away with quite a few poor auto's. In my opinion the 450 is tricky to auto to say the least but it can be done that is for sure. nice wind about 5-10 kts.
sure helps alot and I never practise if it is gusty, I find the 450 just gets affected too much by the gusts and it is too easy to loose headspeed. I hope the pointers help, they are only my opinion and everyone has slightly different approaches but these things are some that work for me. Have fun and as always glad you enjoyed the video.
yeah... If I was gonna buy a kit, and there was two options, with the Gyro GY-240 and the GY401, would you go for the GY401, even if its 50 bucks more expensive in this case, and I won't use it for rough 3d? Im thinking of buying a Rex, but I dont know which one to choose, as I dont think It is so much difference if im not doing agressive 3d, and the GY401 is 50 bucks more expensive in my case. So what would you go for? My budget is very limited and I can just about afford one of these.
Well it is just my opinion but I have flown both the 401 and the 240. The 401 is a very good gyro and if you can get one with a digital servo (i use a 9650) it really makes the heli much nicer to fly. The 240 does the job but in this case you do get what you pay for and the 401 is a better gyro. I am not sure from your question is you are considering a trex 500 or a 600 but they are also great machines. Best of luck and have fun!
Thanks for all the nice comments on the video. It was not that windy about 10kts of wind. The throttle is set to hold at 0 for the auto. My pitch curves are all plus 10 to minus 10 degrees with the exception of the throttle hold curve that i use for the auto's, this is set to go from minus 10 to about plus 12 or as much pitch as I can get. The blades are SAB carbons, servos are hs 65's on cyclic and a 9650 on the tail.
Unfortunately my heli skill are no where near pro but i keep practising and its good fun. for idle 1 the throttle is 100,80,80,90,100 for idle 2 it is 100,100,100,100,100 i only use idle 2 occasionally normally i fly in idle 1. I will try to make the time to shoot some more trex video soon.
haha!!hope to see youe 3d perform video coming soon..my heli is trex 450 s and model is 430L,I set idel 2 100 95 90 95 100 to roll the heli I found that always loose the blade rotate,so I will try your command 100 100 100 100 100 haha
the sand is forgiving to land but absolutely devastating for ur bearings.

i can't do autos because my tail akways spins to the left when I switch it in the air

jeez you're coming in fast. But it works, sure does look spectacular.
My descent rate with the 450 is lower, but you'll have more headspeed at the bottom than I do. Will try this faster ...

Thanks for the nice comment and I am glad you liked the video. I really enjoy the Trex 450 but the 500 is much easier to auto! have fun

Try the Logictech 2100T gyro. It is as good as the 401 if not better, and it's brand new for $104.

thanks for your reply^^,so your rc heli 3D skill must be very pro,and how much throttle percentage when you use idel 1 or idel 2
