I like their early stuff so much. I didn't like it when Billy Corgan became obsessed with the color black and techno music. I don't even like the way he sings in their newer stuff. This stuff is so raw and real.
@Ioweyousome I have thought Rhinoceros is the best one for a while. We used to drop acid and listen to this. The peak is awesome to Rhinoceros. I have started to like this one more lately. I don't know why.
I had the pleasure of meeting and greeting all the members of the band 2 years ago with autographs on all my cd's what a pleasure that was!! Kids don't know what kind of music this was back in the day rock on Billy. BTW they put on one hell of a show
@Jaydogs99 Kids don't know what kind of music this was back in the day? That's funny. Cause we all thought you kids back in the day were stupid for listening to this crap. And now those kids are calling the kids "kids?" (psst- hey kids- back in the day, this music was so not where it was at- just for mainstream pop culture art school fags- don't let this dude patronize you- we all wanted Smashing Pumpkins and Nirvana and all that Lalapalooza/Pepsi Generation shlock to die slowly and painfully).

@hchn333 Nope, no sarcasm intended. And yes, this and Siamese Dream were actually good albums (well... kinda). But all this stuff was so corporate, so mainstream, so commercial... this is a stretch, but it would be like you coming on YouTube when you're 50, and there's some 40 year old commenting- "Phaw, you little kids nowadays, you little whippersnappers have no idea what good music is, back in the day we had Lady Gaga." Understand?
Look up the album Laterus by Tool...that was made in 2001....and one in 2006, 10,000 days. I love smashing pumpkins, but I also love Tool. Here's a link for a Tool song.
Damb this makes me kind of sad cause when i first heard this i was probably 15 or 16 years old in jr.high and now i'm going on 35 in less than a month away with 3 kids whom one of them is going to be 13 next year. where does the time go?
@nando19751 haha yeah im 29, i remember listening to all this music like it was yesterday. You are right, time goes by super fast. Good music stays with you forever.
Siamese dream is so over-rated. I prefer "Gish" over Siamese Dream. For one thing, Gish has a darker, straight forward hard rock sound that I loved as a kid in about 94 or 95. Second, I guess because I was only about seven or eight at the time, i love it because me and my dad used to listen to it in his truck every day on a cassette. I still have the same tape, but i haven't seen my dad in years...This brings back memories for real man
@failboats , John Bonham, Neil Peart, David Grohl, Mitch Mitchell, Buddy Rich, Keith Moon, Ian Paice. I like Jimmy Chamberlain very much. I always mention him when it comes to drumming, but he isn't better than Bonham, Peart, Grohl, Rich or Mitchell.
He's better than all of them bar Bonham dude, in my opinion anyway...But i'm glad you didn't mention Moon as being superior, although he is a legend, he is much more famous for his off-stage antics rather than his drumming (which is often overrated). And I've never heard any drumming by Grohl which compete's with Chamberlain's heavy jazz influenced power drumming man
@amstell13 Well. It all comes down to opinion. Dave Grohl is my favorite drummer. But I think Jimmy is better than him. But you think Dave is better than Jimmy. Y'see?
And all those drummers all do a different style of music that requires different type of skills and talent.
But thank you so much for mentioning Mitch! He's soooo underrated when it comes to drumming!
The sad thing is that you have to point towards greatness. The smashing pumpkins were the greatest live, rock act in the 90s! I grew up in that era and musically Billy owns Kurt! But I also love my Janes and Alice in Chains!
Saw the Pumpkins live for the 1st time at a local club in South Beach called Washington Square in 1990 something. Club was about 800 sq ft. Packed!! Bartenders sprayed cool water on us as we moshed (everyone in the club was moshing). I had my hands all over this cute blonde from out of town (I think) and I stold Darcys Heineken bottle from stage. Still remember the look Darcy gave me as I walked away with her drink. Sorry! LOL
I wish the pumpkins would start making music like this again. I'm only 13 and started listening to the pumpkins this year. sadly i think there coming out with a new album I've heard its good but not as good as this.
i think the new album is called Teargarden By Kaleidescope. im 13 too and i just started litstening to the like in the summer of 2009. i love the Smashing Pumkins!!!!!!!! they are amazing!
don't think any other band can really touch the pumpkins of old....don't think any other band can exactly nail the essense of what they put into their songs
i wish i still had this cassette i remember the oldies like i am one window paine daydream listenin back in '96 or '97 with dad i was a kid, it was fantastic...
@The666thBowelOfHell it was a little bit of stating the obvious. it doesn't have anything to do with the music. but if anyone wants to be funny about it, they could say that when he did away with his hair, away went his creativity. you know?
@Voidspirits nothing is better or can even be compared to the pumpkin's they cant be touched not even radiohead can be compared to this , i'm not saying radiohead is bad , i listen to radiohead and i love radiohead but the pumpkins are just out of this world
Queens Of The Stone Age are a really good band from today IMO. But abosolutly nothing can beat The Smashing Pumpkins Im sure everyone can agree with me that they are the best band ever. Not to mention the song "Snail" is incredible.
@megamo08 Blabla kids today blabla corporate music blabla....as if we didn't have corporate shit in the 90s. If i remember correctly Alt Rock and Indie were actually kinda born out of that.
The music of today has no passion and it's very stale compared to the 90's Alt Rock was born as a response to 80's hair bands and Indie rock was born from Alt rock as a softer alternative. Sure there is references to corporations in Grunge rock but in away to not be so stale and uncreative bottom line is 90's music is just more creative in every way.
@megamo08 Some people might argue that there has been no "good" music since the early 1970's. I grew up on this. I love it. My bf hates this. He only likes much older stuff. I agree that it has gone corporate. But, you can't deny that music has progressively become less beautiful and less complex. The funny thing about is that we thought we were cool because it was dissonant and "ugly/pretty" so it was kind of sticking it to the man. Contrarily, we were deprived of beautiful music.
@Unremarkable1000 None taken. My bf knows a lot more about music than I. I argue with him sometimes because I enjoy the vocals/lyrics of songs more than the melodies/harmonies. He plays drums, guitar, sitar, tabla, esraj, bugle, ukulele, keyboard/piano...and records all of his own tracks to his original songs. He doesn't think lyrics are important. I enjoy the Pumpkins because of their Allen Ginsberg Howl like lyrics combined with the powerful hard rock of our generation. To each his own.
The fact that almost the entire later parts of the guitar solo is comprised of feedback and pick scrapes, and yet sounds so amazing is because not all dissonance is bad. Obviously you know this, but its interesting to note the Smashing Pumpkin's usage of feedback and overall terrible sounding guitar bits into solos and make it fit so perfectly.
@peniosasdasd Thank you for this comment. I couldn't put it better myself. It's what I've tried to articulate to my bf. With any type of art, good and bad are subjective.
Sad day man Cassette tapes are so sweet there like a blast from the past when u find some of ur old tapes its a beautiful thing needless to say hahaha
the best song they ever did. back when Billy Corgan was truly depressed and didn't have to fake it like all the crap they came out with after this the one and only great Smashing Pumpkins record.
Yes this hole band doesnt get enough resoect ....they legends in the game already!!!, made Amazing music lyricsly music wies...some songs like tristessa are flawless ,drums bass guitar and singing perfection... these guys talk about some deep shit and none of that commercal love bs .... REEEEEAl love!!!listen to this song and you'll know wut i mean... out
I agree Gish doesn't have a weak song, but I don't think Siamese Dream does either. In fact, Adore was the first one to have any weak songs in my opinion. MCIS had some weird ones, but all of them had an insane amount of quality.
Hmm, quality perhaps but there's so many songs on MCIS which I'd skip, and a couple on Siamese Dream. Pisces Iscariot, though, all B-sides, is almost perfect. And the Zero EPs include my favourite Pumpkins songs but a couple of weak ones too

The final 1:45 is possibly my favorite 1:45 of all music I've ever heard.

The sound is horrible. Why do people even bother posting things unless they are going to do it right. Did this come from a worn out cassette tape?

This is one of those rare albums that always seems to sound a little better each time you listen to it. Thanks for posting.

I couldn't agree more with that!!

the best song they ever did. back when Billy Corgan was truly depressed and didn't have to fake it like all the crap they came out with after this the one and only great Smashing Pumpkins record.

GISH is my favorite Smashing Pumpkins album. most SP fans I meet completely underestimate this album.

totaly agree
Kyuss1988 3 years ago
yeah, like, im in love with siamese dream, but gish is somehow even more amazing.
its incredible.
astrozombie777 2 years ago 2
I agree. I am one of those fans, sadly. Though recently I started listening to Gish again with a whole new respect.
BlackChameleon 2 years ago 2
I agree- it's the only album without a single weak song
lagringasarah 2 years ago
I agree Gish doesn't have a weak song, but I don't think Siamese Dream does either. In fact, Adore was the first one to have any weak songs in my opinion. MCIS had some weird ones, but all of them had an insane amount of quality.
rohiogerv22 2 years ago
Hmm, quality perhaps but there's so many songs on MCIS which I'd skip, and a couple on Siamese Dream. Pisces Iscariot, though, all B-sides, is almost perfect. And the Zero EPs include my favourite Pumpkins songs but a couple of weak ones too
