  • technique much? starker's bach is the best i've heard

  • He shows more emotion in his music than a mother does to her child.

  • Starker does the best Bach...

  • My absolute favorite version! I think his timing is perfect!

  • Wow! Very special compilation. The sound with beautiful pictures. Janos is handsome!!! Thank you!

  • Check out Phoebe Carrai, a Baroque cellist who has released two recordings of the 6 Suites. Amazing.

They sound way different on a baroque instrument.

Starker plays with very subtle vibrato, which is closer to the baroque technique.

  • @Kurtyoungblood switch off your mind, there is no hate in music

  • @glaucodichio True music can portray every emotion. Hate is harder to portray than most emotions as a musical quality, it usually devolves into anger or frustration.

  • I share the same feelings,if I recall, this was a 2 record set transcribed for the unacompanied cello. sonatas, originally written for viola da gamba .

  • No transcription here as these are the 6 suites for unaccompanied cello. A staple of every cellists repetoire since Casals.

  • In what year was this recorded?

    Thanks

  • This record was my bible as a child musician. There has been no greater interpreter of Bach on the cello.

  • I agree! Starker plays it the way I want hear it. Other great cellists play it waaay too fast. His Suite 6 prelude is the best also.

  • Good call! The powerful prelude to the 6th is what i used to play for people who didn't know about Starker.
