  • Im sorry, but between :30 and :45 seconds is the most beautiful thing I've ever heard.

  • @onei3989 Agreed.

  • youtube is about pop culture which is so far removed from this history.

this is beyond the mindset of most people because they choose to remain ignorant.

thankfully, this sort of programming is available!

  • Jimmy Cleveland and Doc Severinsson in the horn section.

  • Who's the band?

  • The band rox....

  • You Tube rox...over & over.....

  • great video, Billy knows his stuff but that host sure knows nothing about music, "Does changing the rythem change the beat?"-lol

  • love that rendition of stompin' at the savoy.

  • i wish i was born in that decade !!!

  • Eddie and Osie sound amazing together !!

And Doc kicks major ass !!

  • R.I.P. Billy Taylor, and as WKCR brilliantly said "our jazz universe has just become exponentially smaller with the passing of Billy Taylor."

His memorial is being held in at Riverside Church in Harlem, NYC on January 10th. Hope he continues to play those ivories and ebonies wherever he might be.

  • @splanky87 Please tell me this is a mistake. I just discovered Billy Taylor Trio and you tell me he has to his reward. Why oh why do I discover these amazing muscians only after they are gone? It was the same when I found Eva Cassidy.

  • @davnkatz wish it was, I feel bad for the next generation of jazz musicians. But we've still got some great modern jazz musicians around today to carry out on the tradition, like Kurt Rosenwinkel and Esperanza Spalding. Esperanza just beat out Justin Bieber for best new artist in the grammies, boo yahh!!

  • This is brilliant....imagine if kids could just "see" stuff like this on E...

  • Amazing!

  • Good players yeah looks like severinsen on T. bass player good steady.

  • whats the name of the peice they play at the end

  • host is a twat

  • Mundell Lowe on guitar? For real?

    Cool!

  • At 2:27 what instrument is DIzzie playing? Why does it look so weird?

  • Man, we sure need some music to communicate with the tone deaf generations. Thank goodness that some come along in each generation, but the musically illiterate abound.

  • Yeah. Well. I thought I knew jazz, now I find out I DON"T.

I've still got a A LOT to learn.

  • I love this channel! Boy do I wish they put this on tv today instead of that crap they call entertainment. Way to go Jazz Video Guy.

  • I think that is Doc Severinsen playing the trumpet solo; He is a great trumpet player.

  • I think jazz video guy should produce a modern version of this show, it wouldn't get a whole lot of views but it would be amazing

  • This is the beauty of jazz... everyone get's a solo (if they know what to do with it)... :)

  • This is great!

  • Billions on stupid bailouts and they couldn't throw a few million towards programming like this??

  • Amen to that! Makes me wish I had a TV back in '58 LOL

  • You are so right it's scary...

  • Jazzvideoguy is the best!

  • Oh my god this is such a great video! Ive been watching these jazz videos from this channel for a while, but this is the first time that I feel I need to get these on a DVD and sit down and watch them. When I have found a woman that can sit down and watch this with me and enjoy it, I have found true love :)

  • This was a tv show?

    Great!

Too bad there are no shows like this anymore.

  • wow that was so good but what was that edit at the end.

  • Love the "there will never ever be another you" part

  • i want to play piano like that!!

  • i love this version of stompin' at the savoy

  • very good

  • ya really how do you have all of these dope videos thanks for sharing brother

  • nice

  • Great video, who the players?

  • Doc Severinsen, trumpet; Jimmy Cleveland, trombone; Tony Scott, baritone sax; Billy Taylor, piano; Mundell Lowe, guitar; Eddie Safranski, bass; Osie Johnson, drums.

  • I'm firmly convinced the best stuff on youtube is seen by almost no one.

  • @greg5566 Got that right....

  • @greg5566 god yes

  • @greg5566 Right! I find the good stuff by accident, and it always amazes and thrills me.

  • @davnkatz Totally! Ever see this one? watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0

  • @greg5566 you are right

  • @greg5566 Yes, that may be true. However, at least there are things here to watch for the rest of us more complex individuals.

  • who is the drummer?

  • I think it's Ed Thigpen...

  • love it ...thanks man ...

  • Fantastic.
