I seriously feel like the the only THA fan that thought Midheaven was actually good :/ True that it wasn't as heavy as Nocturne, but it was so deep and progressive. I feel that the lyrics on Midheaven were insanely deep and profound, while the music itself was innovative and new and PROGRESSIVE. It wasn't Nocturne, it was Midheaven. Anyone who thinks it's bad simply thinks music is all fancy guitar licks and fast drum fills. No soul. Midheaven = Amazing album imo.
This album should be destroyed. Along with the producer. It sucks, and yes nocturne was the best album ever. Digital veil comes close. Midheaven= stupid fags with instruments.

I still liked Travis a LOT more than Nathan. Lets hope they can find good vocalist to take over now that Travis left. I prefer the heavier style of Digital Veil, I guess.

Enough of this DEBATE! This is a call to EVERYONE fighting and posting arguments on all the YOUTUBE vids for THA: Let it go! Nocturne is their absolute perfection. Nathan made some mistakes and it shows on Midheaven. But, it's not all bad. This is one of the better tracks. Digital Veil is a valiant attempt to correct his mistakes which it does with some exception. Musically, it is an improvement. Bottom line: quit fighting and try and except their changes/evolution as a band or be silent.
Nocturne was a great debut album, they had so much potential.
Midheaven is a huge disappointment to anyone expecting Nocturne 2.0. Sure, they matured as a band, and their music "matured" as well, but definitely NOT in the right way. I tried to listen to this album on its own terms, and no matter how hard I try to convince myself its good, its just not. It's just a lousy album. Sure, they have great INTROS, but I find myself wishing the songs would just end.
their instrumental talent is fantastic but their singers voice is harsh and seems to be pushed when he screams. the intro to their songs is epic as always though and that needs to be supported by a better song body

Nocturne was better in my (and most people's) opinion. And their new album is sounding extremely promising, but Midheaven is and always will be another The Human Abstract masterpiece.
So everyone knows, they do have a new singer, AJ is back for the new album and for the summer and winter tours while he works on getting his Masters of Music degree. Andrew Tapley is still in the band, so now they have 3 guitars. I'm excited to hear how the new album sounds!

i agree with everyone. nocturne made me fall in love with this band. midheaven is good too, but it cant even suck the dick of nocturne. i bought all three albums, and i loved all three. im not going to be listening to midheaven as much though. i'm still going to look out for when they get a new album to see if its up to par with nocturne :)
To put it short, don't isolate yourself from other people, and make sure you keep yourself open that way you won't be alone since all humans are essentially the same. Look up the lyrics and it'll make more sense.
Dude...compared to older stuff it's not as good...because their main guitarist left...they changed their direction a little to compensate... Compared to most metal today (you know, chugger bands) this is fucking awesome.
Chugger bands? You mean break beat ? breakdowns don't take much but they do sound sick. just one more peak for valley dynamics are key. another thing is the sweeps don't even seem to be part of the song anymore, seems like a skipping record everytime he does that shit! noctourne was interesting though.
Yeah, i did mean like breakdowns as chugger. They do sound awesome, and I use them occasionally, but I also like variety, not saying a lot of bands don't use it, but let's just say I've heard a breakdown song... And as for no more sweeps, I think it's cuz it's not AJ anymore.
I think you're overlooking the album abit. If you listen to the guitar work in Metanoia on Midheaven, the guitar work in that is immense and probably equals most of the guitar on Nocturne! As for the over all technicality of the music, Minheaven beats Nocturne in places. Im not trying to cause a fight, or put down Nocturne, cos i think thats a great album too! But i am just saying just because they took a new direction and A.J left doesn't mean the other musicians aren't any less talented!

Once I got used to this album, all became clear how great it is. A Violent Strike and Breathing Life Into Devices obviously being the best.
Sure AJ isn't there anymore, but I think Tapely holds his own, and now they have their feet on the ground, perhaps they can make the next record brilliant.
@Consequencer11 This album sucks compared to Nocturne. Without A.J. (thank God he's coming back) they blow. Any song off of Nocturne, including Sotto Voce, is better then this album. I believe that their first and their new album will be better then this shit.
unfortunately, they seemed to go into stuff that is more rhythmically awkward, AJ did it fine though, in Vela it goes between 4/4, 5/4, 6/4 etc. This isn't math rock, they just need to get it back together and i look forward to a different approach on their next album.
People, i have listened to THA for ages, and was absolutely inspired by their music i created a band of my own, i slept outside of Target to get Midheaven, and i can honestly say i love it much more then Nocturne, i always loved AJ, i mean hell, he created the band, but things happen, Dean and Tapley are still amazing, appreciate what you have people, it absolutely outrages me when people say that they suck now.They are still quite the amazing band, my favorite as a matter of fact. I haven't heard the anything else from this album, but this compared to anything from Nocturne is not progression, I think they recessed. Nocturne is so much better then this, and it stood out. Now, they sound like every other emo/screamo/metal/rock band out there. I'll pass on this one.
I was talking to Dean at a show on tuesday, and he said that they are getting the rest of the previous members to write material for the new album, I have really high hopes for it. IMO both albums are great and I like aspects of boh, but with AJ back for the recording part, I really hope they add some more classical elements. Either way, this band is amazing.

To be honest why does it matter if theyve changed theyre musical style its progression both Midheaven and Nocturne are great albums and they may not be as classicaly influenced now but the intro to this song is mind blowing so who really cares?

neh.nocturne was so good because of the classical elements the previous lead guitarist brought. sure the progressive element is nice, but they had a good thing goin with the first...lotta bands have incorporated riffs similar to it...but whats great was that each song stuck in your head..was complicated and accessible at once

I'm not going to lie, I miss AJ, he was sick. This is however my most favorite song from The Human Abstract, it doesn't sound bad by any means. This was AJs band, and was AJs music, I think we can all agree that they were better with AJ. The Human ABstract changed a little just look forward to AJs new band if there will ever be one...

The big difference between Midheaven and Nocturne is well, obviously AJ for one. The second reason though, is that they didn't go into the studio with something already prewritten. I've tried listening to this album on countless occasions, but all I hear is Dean trying too hard to be at AJ's level, and Tapley is barely getting the ropes down. They had a very original sound with Nocturne, and they tried too hard to recreate it without AJ. It just shows the talent that was wasted, in my opnion..

Dude...compared to older stuff it's not as good...because their main guitarist left...they changed their direction a little to compensate... Compared to most metal today (you know, chugger bands) this is fucking awesome.

You mean break beat ? breakdowns don't take much but they do sound sick. just one more peak for valley dynamics are key. another thing is the sweeps don't even seem to be part of the song anymore, seems like a skipping record everytime he does that shit! noctourne was interesting though.

Yeah, i did mean like breakdowns as chugger. They do sound awesome, and I use them occasionally, but I also like variety, not saying a lot of bands don't use it, but let's just say I've heard a breakdown song... And as for no more sweeps, I think it's cuz it's not AJ anymore.

I think you're overlooking the album abit. If you listen to the guitar work in Metanoia on Midheaven, the guitar work in that is immense and probably equals most of the guitar on Nocturne! As for the over all technicality of the music, Minheaven beats Nocturne in places. Im not trying to cause a fight, or put down Nocturne, cos i think thats a great album too! But i am just saying just because they took a new direction and A.J left doesn't mean the other musicians aren't any less talented!

Once I got used to this album, all became clear how great it is. A Violent Strike and Breathing Life Into Devices obviously being the best.
Sure AJ isn't there anymore, but I think Tapely holds his own, and now they have their feet on the ground, perhaps they can make the next record brilliant.

unfortunately, they seemed to go into stuff that is more rhythmically awkward, AJ did it fine though, in Vela it goes between 4/4, 5/4, 6/4 etc. This isn't math rock, they just need to get it back together and i look forward to a different approach on their next album.

People, i have listened to THA for ages, and was absolutely inspired by their music i created a band of my own, i slept outside of Target to get Midheaven, and i can honestly say i love it much more then Nocturne, i always loved AJ, i mean hell, he created the band, but things happen, Dean and Tapley are still amazing, appreciate what you have people, it absolutely outrages me when people say that they suck now.They are still quite the amazing band, my favorite as a matter of fact. I haven't heard the anything else from this album, but this compared to anything from Nocturne is not progression, I think they recessed. Nocturne is so much better then this, and it stood out. Now, they sound like every other emo/screamo/metal/rock band out there. I'll pass on this one.

I was talking to Dean at a show on tuesday, and he said that they are getting the rest of the previous members to write material for the new album, I have really high hopes for it. IMO both albums are great and I like aspects of boh, but with AJ back for the recording part, I really hope they add some more classical elements. Either way, this band is amazing.

To be honest why does it matter if theyve changed theyre musical style its progression both Midheaven and Nocturne are great albums and they may not be as classicaly influenced now but the intro to this song is mind blowing so who really cares?

neh.nocturne was so good because of the classical elements the previous lead guitarist brought. sure the progressive element is nice, but they had a good thing goin with the first...lotta bands have incorporated riffs similar to it...but whats great was that each song stuck in your head..was complicated and accessible at once

the lyrics are so pointless and they try to be too avant garde about the whole thing, they make no sense, no real guitar riff or section, uninspired solo, video also makes no sense. I totally agree that Nocturne was special, this is not, not bad, but not special.

The video was shot before the song was wrote, the entire album is based off this video, they wanted to capture the mood of the album from this video.

well thats an ignorant response. first of all the new album is a concept album about how people build themselves up and break themselves down again and again. the concept came first, not the video dumbass. it doesnt make any sense to make a video and then get an idea from a video you made. plus the vid was obviously produced side by side with the song

I'm not going to lie, I miss AJ, he was sick. This is however my most favorite song from The Human Abstract, it doesn't sound bad by any means. This was AJs band, and was AJs music, I think we can all agree that they were better with AJ. The Human ABstract changed a little just look forward to AJs new band if there will ever be one...

The big difference between Midheaven and Nocturne is well, obviously AJ for one. The second reason though, is that they didn't go into the studio with something already prewritten. I've tried listening to this album on countless occasions, but all I hear is Dean trying too hard to be at AJ's level, and Tapley is barely getting the ropes down. They had a very original sound with Nocturne, and they tried too hard to recreate it without AJ. It just shows the talent that was wasted, in my opnion..

It is very obvious that the band is missing something significant with the loss of AJ,but the band knows hes irreplaceable. Fallen in a pure love with "Nocturne", but can't bear listening to "Midheaven". I don't care if someone calls me true or false fand of The Human Abstract. It's not the point, guys! Me and some other people are simply disappointed with new THA's album. Besides, noone said that Tapley is a bad guitarist. The thing is that the music he creates is so different when compared to that made by Minette. Now we can actually how big influence for the band's music was AJ. Big changes cannot comfort everyone

it's acceptable for people to like THA solely for Nocturne, since that's what they listened to to get them into this band; something THA was probably aware of while making Midhaven. i personally don't mind this album, it retains enough of their original style, while still being fresh.
