  • its close to jakarta

  • This also caused a global temperature drop of 1.2 degrees celcius, and killed many more than the figure around 35,000 as this volcano caused temperature drops so vast in some countries that crops failed to grow

  • this volcano would have caused tsunami's 2000km away to the coasts of Australia. it would also have cause anyone in a 5-10km radius to be deaf. it was a fucking monster of a volcano and the initial explosion was suggested to be the loudest sound ever recorded in history.

  • I have to say its depiction of the tsunami, although dramatic, is sooooo much more "tamed" than the real deal. If you watch some of the Japan tsunami videos, even cars can't outrun them, needless to say that nobody can possibly survive the impact of a tsunami.

  • I want to see such an event in my lifetime.

  • @ilifeform you will, no worries ...

  • I have only one thing in mind WAAAAAOO its horrible

  • Mount Tambora have bigger eruption than this... also in Indonesia

  • people in austrialia heard it

  • You'd think the inhabitants would flee upon seeing the first warning sign of an approaching Tsunami (water on beach receding dramatically).

  • @alexiaNBC right?! or left the island when, ya know, it kinda erupted!

  • I read about Krakatoa when I was a very small girl, 7 years old in 1972. That was what started my lifelong love for volcanoes. I then spent 15 years reading everything about volcanoes. I think it is odd that the people around Krakatoa didnt take the signals seriously. They have lots of volcanoes, some dorment some active and they are used to tsunamis due to the fact that earthquakes are rather common. the last days moved me and the sound when the mountain explodes was massive. Allmost real.

  • My god! Watching the sea being pulled in was so scary.. its like its being drain at a super fast speed and there's nothing they could do.. its like my washimg machine! So scary. I pity the ppl then. I'm so sorry for the lost

  • Krakatoa is (was) in Indonesia, between the islands Java and Sumatra.

Krakatoa was surrounded between 3 smaller islands, Pulau Rakata, Pulau Sertung, and Pulau Rakata-Kecil.

  • It's scary to imagine if Anak Krakatoa experienced an eruption similiar to 1883. The death toll would dwarf those in 1883 since the the islands like Java and Sumatra are much more populated today compared to back then if the eruption of Anak Krakatoa was accompanied by tsunamis.

  • In Japan the helicopter over the scene you can see exactly what happened here...before the tsunami struck..

  • omg 1 power volcano

    i watched it in hd

    but it was scary

  • TV

  • A good film, unless for one carelessness: the dialoque was conducted in modern Malaysian Melayu. In fact, the people in West Java, the location of the story, is speaking in Sundanese. The Melayu (Malay) is a language spoken in Indonesian eastern and northern Sumatra and part of Kalimantan as well as Malaysia. The one used in this film resembles the Malaysian Melayu which is not compatible anthropologically.

  • @cahkangkung that`s right

  • @cahkangkung well said, i wonder why BBC miss this one...

  • Interesting

  • orang jadul aneh2 ya..

  • krakatoa is in my pc

  • 3:35 know what i would do.

turn around running while yelling TSUNAMI!!!

  • @supervegito2277 the problem was at this time no one knew the signs, we are lucky with like internet and shit we have more knowledge of when to watch and when the hell to run for your life haha

  • @4lyfesports o really then wat happened to japan .......

  • @Aggies4lifedog ya and the death toll would have been significantly larger had people not known what to do. You think so many people would have lost thier lives during the 2004 tsunami if they knew what signs to look for?

  • @4lyfesports they have shitty technology durring 04

  • free fish!

  • Indonesian people certainly will not forget it.

  • In this movie is Krakatoa mt, Not Anak Krakatau.

  • @bermanno123 this is anak krakatoa krakatoa is big not like this

  • ini krakatau apa anak nya?

  • krakatoa is located beetween sumatera and java island, in sunda strait

  • in indonesia people live in ring of fire, 150 volcanos in this country and 3 plate tectonics #pray for indonesia

  • Anak krakatau is showing signs of eruptions

  • Krakatoa ! :(

  • in indonesia, it 's krakatau

  • ini induknya udah meletus, senbentar lagi anaknya

  • This part really gives me the creeps T_T. With Merapi mountain just erupt a few days ago and now that Anak Krakatau are also showing some sign of activity.. I just really hope sumtin like this wouldn't ever happened again...if it does.. God, please save us... >_<

  • umm vanhalen. krakatoa ISN'T located. It blew itself and the whole island it was on up. NOTHING LEFT.

  • Hey, isn't she in Gladiator? O.o

  • they say that the explosion was the hardest sound ever...

  • @MaartenCanters loudest* and this was just a vie 6 if yellowstone goes of thats a vie 8 .. lol 100 times worse than this one

  • @dragmaster Well, let's hope that doesn't happen =P

  • in what country krakatoa is located?

  • @vanhalen8200 - Hey there. Krakatoa is in Indonesia.

  • @vanhalen8200 it is in krakatoa but when it erupted it destroyed itself the blast was heard in Texas. the Shockwave was traveled around the world several times. That wave caused most of the casualties. The wave was about 135 ft tall and traveled at 600 MPH. The affects were felt in the English channel. A while later another volcano apeared next to where Krakatoa was the locals named it Anak Krakatoa or child of Krakatoa.

  • @vanhalen8200 is indonesia

  • @vanhalen8200 : HI... Krakataoa is in our country, Carita beach Banten(west java)- indonesia... today is still active, just 1 hour by fast boat from carita...

  • @vanhalen8200 : in Indonesia, between the islands of java and Sumatra.

  • @oox2000 In the Sundae Straits to be exact. I don't know if I'm wrong, and somebody will no doubt tell me so here, but I think the entire island of Krakatoa was blown out of the water by the massive volcanic eruption in August 1883. Today there is a new island and volcano that's grown over years, called Anak Krakatoa that translates from Indonesian as son of it.

  • @Professor6871 what you say is exact.

  • @vanhalen8200 : it is Indonesia

  • @vanhalen8200 : it is Indonesia , between Java and Sumatra island

  • Is the Yellowstone more devastating than this?

Truly, such "tiny" catastrophe can seem like the end of the world or even claim millions of lives. When all it is, is probably just a pimple popping on the surface of the earth.

Also, you freaking run when you see water sucked away like that. But I must admit, it is fascinating to watch.. but it's not worth your lives.

  • @PanicSunday lol yellowstone is the size LA thats how much magma is in there, this is nothing compared to how bad yellowstone will be when it erupts

  • poor old lady servant

  • poor fish =(

  • Apparently the only sing of life they found when they returned to the island of 'Krakatoa' after the 1883 eruption was a spider in a rock crevice, or something like that. My uncle told me. Either way, pretty darned lucky spider!

  • Man that was amazing but I feel sorry for who died

  • -- OMG . this is wa horrible TRADEGY !

  • omg, i have seen this in german..in 2008, i see this now, and its scary!

  • Well 2012 will not happen...

Unless U.S troops in iran will push forward

  • yellowstone-world's largest supervolcano

  • nothing can compare the tsunami of 2012 that is 1500 meters high! =)

  • im from indonesia. we have beautiful natural disasters, like earthquake, tsunami, and this one.

  • I wathced this same thing in class. AMAZING, but sad

  • mmm no lo hay en español

  • If yellow stone does erupte I'm gona die I live by the blast radius O_O so i don't want to be reminded of it.

  • well...

it could be like in the movie 2012...

but you never know until it happens

  • just wait 'till Yellow Stone does something ...

  • en español !

  • Krakatoa was the largest volcanic eruption in MODERN history, and also the loudest sound from any eruption in history (it was heard over 4000 miles away). Tambora was responsible for the largest recorded eruption in history, which goes to show you can never trust a so called "near extinct" volcano

  • scary.

  • I've read in wikipedia that the sound that came from the eruption of this volcano was the loudest sound on earth ever witnessed. "People within 15km of the volcano, had their eardrums perfurated by the sound.", "It was heard as far as +- 5.000km" - Wikipedia.

    My God...

See also the eruption of Mount Pélée in 1902 that killed 30.000 and there was only one survivor in a very curious situation.

  • Oh, you got my interest piqued about the lone survivor of the Mount Pélée eruption. Thanks! I'll look that up.

  • Hello :) Yes, it is an amazing story that I found some time ago. Truly unbelievable.

    This eruptions really are devastating...

There is algo mount Vesuvius that completely destroyed the city of Pompeii in ancient Rome. But this one you may already know.

  • @MelodyOfVision you should also look up the one guy that died in the salt lake city tornado. in the section that says deaths, there's just 1.

  • @MelodyOfVision A convict in a bunker-like jail cell. He wound in a circus showing his burn scars on his back from the superheated gas that came in through a tiny window in his cell.

  • @Upsilon1982 2 actually a god whats it called "shoemaker"? and a death sentenced man, the former is a mystery, he got serious burns and such, the latter was in an isolated rock building with one window pointing opposite way of pelee.

  • @Upsilon1982

    two survirvors, not one...

  • @Upsilon1982

    True that.

  • @Upsilon1982 Yup it was audible on 10% of earths surface

  • Comment removed

  • This was the 2nd largest eruption in WRITTEN history. However massive caldera volcanoes, termed "SuperVolcanoes" have erupted in prehistoric times. These eruptions are thousands of times more powerful and have been known to cause mass extintions due to serious climate effects.

Search up the Toba or Yellowstone supervolcanoes

  • sorry im quite curious wht is this tsunami ur talking about and where?

  • It amazes me that they think it was a gunshot...it wuz actually i think the biggest volcanic eruption in history (i think (please if im wrong just tell me and please dont argue about it with me. Thanks.))

  • He leiido que la erupcion de Cracatoa fue la mas fuerte que se conoce y que

durante meses despues se veian las particulas de las cenizas en las puestas de sol!

Este relato esta muy bien hecho, me

    dan ganas de llorar!

    Thank you for sharing this!

  • today in Level 3 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • HOLY.....!!!

  • What an amazing looking move, but I wonder what made the volcano erupt so violently.

  • Well, what they thought were three different volcanic peaks were actually one huge mass underneath. All that pressure, it had to blow eventually and when it let loose, it just kept on going until it was emptied out. Sad to say but you just can't predict when or how these things will happen.

  • I wish I could find this on a DVD that's compatible with American DVD players...awesome movie

  • Good docudrama there. That tsunami was awesome.

  • when the sea retracts they are all like ooooooooh

But then they are running and screaming

    (JP2)

  • Seeing the sea suddenly retreat like that would make me panic for sure. It's so biblical to see that happen in such a short time.

  • you're getting realy sad when you watch this clips of yours... but at the same time its intresting.... ='( | =O

  • not only sad , im frightened , since that volcano is near my place ... gosh ..

  • With all the detailed accounts from 1883 and scientists monitoring Krakatoa's activity now, I think we can get the people out of the coastal areas in time. At least that's what I'm hoping.

If you see a column of smoke emerge from Krakatoa, start packing!

  • Yeah, this is one of the reasons why I wanted to post this series. I want people to be aware of its power.

I was so sad about the tsunami that hit in 2004 because no one was able to report its approach. With Anak Krakatoa growing at a fast pace, August 26-27 will happen again sooner or later, and hopefully by that time, people will be ready for it.

  • its is clear...the reason y this tsunami killed 27,000 people is cause they were unknowledgeable bout that kinda disaster in those days. sad...
