  • Dorrit Moussaieff would go to an opening of a can of baked beans let alone a royal wedding

  • I was told by a friend who works at Buckingham Palace that Dorrit Moussaieff was so angry that she was not invited to Prince William's wedding to Kate Middleton, she even got caught trying to bribe her way in. Anyway, she got a job as a cleaning woman in Westminster Abbey and they'll let her listen to it from the ladies toilets if she cleans them properly.

  • @1556bigspender What does this have to do with anything about iceland

  • Hahahahahaha most of this stuff is so wrong

  • Fish and thermosomething opportunities, economic hitmen, IMF and World Bunk...

    Don't ever surrender.

  • Why are all the icelanders speaking swedish/danish (cant tell) ..Hví ekki tala bara íslensku?

  • @volcanicvikingo I might be Icelandic but for one, i do not have an icelandic keyboard, and i will not change it over on my computer because there is no point since i dont want to be typing blindly on my keyboard not knowing what is what.

  • loodvig lead loodvigsen wtf

  • I'm an Icelander and even I cracked up when he said Gay, even though I know the name is Geir, that just makes it more funny when you understand the skrewup. If anything this news reporter just proved he's a moron who can't say shit right.

  • police officer Gay John Thorrisson... :S

  • @TheSuperFatCat Geir i think

  • @NitroxideHS

Yeah, I guess the joke was too easy.

  • actually. iceland isent sinking, its rising up. it goes up 3cm every year and also grows wider 3cm a year.

  • @in10forever haha Nice one!

  • @in10forever thats a relief i got so upset when i saw this video

  • It may not be a bad idea for Icelander's to copy the Irish circa 1840-1970's migration to the U.S. I mean, just cause you're born someplace that your descendants settled doesn't mean you can't leave. Maybe cod fishing can't support 240,000 people..

  • as soon as they said the guys name was "GAY" i stopped listening lol

  • @brradsullivan fyi his name is not Gay, it's Geir (it's an old Icelandic name which means 'spear'). The least news reporters can do is to learn how to pronounce names correctly to prevent misunderstandings like this. Just look at how they all pronounce Eyjafjallajökull. The guy in this video even got Reykjavík wrong and that word is not that hard. To learn how to pronounce foreign words isn't that complicated: We have the Internet for crying out loud!

  • I think some of thees Interviewer's need to take some anti depression drugs.

Funny who many Icelanders talk Norsk in this clip? I've newer seen that so mush her in Iceland.

  • I'm a citizen in Iceland and I think the government is awful and I specially hate the left-political parties. FUCKING SOCIALISM!!!

  • watch 'The Money Masters' documentary

  • thanks

  • @LondonLamb94 Actually, Iceland probably has one of the BEST governments in the world. They actually SUPPORT families and such. No other government will EVER do it.

  • icelandic people know that god is not real we are not dumb like americans we know what is going on and we are fighting the machine

  • Dont go to religion or alcohol to resolve your problems. Be creative, don something!!!

  • FUCK BANKERS!!!!!!!!

  • Sorry to hear the sad news.

    But excellent reporting.

  • Iceland=Ice cream

  • on a further note, when you feel sorry for us primative eskimos in the north atlantic, think of this, the uk is craving energy, it has to purchase energy from other nations, we have SO much of it we can't even produce all of it because of kyoto, we have agriculture, fish, oil and energy in abundance.. the fat, tea drinking, bad teeth brits, and the lacy drug addicted dutch will starv a long time before we will.. who do think got this country to what it was 10 years ago? bankers? nope..

  • I read most of the comments and it really strikes me as odd of how cold people can be, never been a racist or int isolationism but, to be honest...

Since the british minister Darling decided to fully pay back the savings of british in business with the icelandic banks, without cosulting the authority's in iceland i say too bad, by law, the same law that everyone has to follow in the EU we don't have to pay a cent more then what is currently in the banking insurance fund, which is basically 7$

  • Lol, the narrator pronounces the names so badly XD

  • Okay for starters i think Icelanders are one of the non racist people there are... and if you think about it if we let foreign investors in and they buy up all our resources we really loose our independence... because we've sold everything we have away from us....

  • you should sell the cars to china

  • We have started selling cars to china, germany and other countries but at first it was hard because there where a lot of laws which made it hard for Icelandic car dealers to sell cars out of the country without paying extremely high tax rates... but the laws have been changed so that is all changing now :)

  • @gunnaringg Most of the latent racism in iceland is hidden because it is so rarely tested, since this community is largely homogenous

The xenophobia present rarely takes the form of racial crime or gang violence, but rather in the inherent distrust against any foreign entities. The EU discussion is emblematic of this, as are concerns about foreign investment in Icelandic startups; the discussion rarely tackles the actual issues, but rather devolves into an emotional argument about sovereignty.

  • @Shamaroth Iceland is a racist nation BECAUSE we have it so good. We get ''scared'' over that people that move to Iceland will ''ruin'' the ''good'' in our country. Which in a way is true but still very very wrong.

  • @in10forever Hey I'm from Canada. Take it from someone who lives in a country who has people from every nation living in it. YOUR PEOPLE ARE RIGHT. All it has done is make things bad here. A white, Canadian born person is actually in the minority at universities and such. Some malls can't have christmas trees or Santas because it offends muslims. Schools can't have secret Santas or christmas parties because it offends them as well. Sikhs can bring knives on trains and buses because

  • @canascot02 it's part of their religion. They treat Canadian women like they're worthless because that's just how muslim men are raised to be. It's not racism in your county, it's watching out for your own people. And it's not wrong.

  • @gunnaringg Icelanders have been in the past very racist, now we aren't as much as any other country but you cannot say that we are the least racist. I know for a fact that people still get bullied here.

  • i have faith for countries like Iceland.

    beautiful country with nice people.

also bjork is number 1 !

  • Iceland stole money from britain - see DONT BANK ON THE IOM. How was this allowed to happen?

  • Comment removed

  • @Krakkhaus

Nobody in Iceland planned this, huh? Actually I planned this. And I'm in Iceland. Muhahaha.

  • Iceland is a great country.

  • the bartender isnt icelandic =O

  • Yes he is.

  • the worst is over, the shock was in nov 2008, we still have our national resources, we have survived worst things here in Iceland, the year 1900 Iceland was one of the poorest countries in Europe. So it will be ok.

  • I have just returned from my 17th visit to Iceland and this video does not give an accurate view of the reality, in fact it is so full of inaccuracies it should be removed.

Icelanders are accustomed to hard times and are courageous enough to survive them during this current crisis.

uhhh, tundrasheep, my friends eat all that weird stuff... because they like it... at least that's what they tell me!

Long live the Viking spirit! Love the country, love the people.

  • Thanks man and wow you visit Iceland alot :)

  • Well, Icelanders are used to having a hard life because they make it hard for themselves by being backwards, narrow minded and always pursuing short term gains without any long term visions. Everything in this country is always a quick fix, lining the pockets of same rich and fat ass traitors that belong to the same families that stole from us under the guise that the Danish were being so bad too us.

Iceland just has to open it's eyes and realize that they have to unite and work as a team.

  • tundrasheep

this is what happens when politicians give themselves powers well beyond their mental capabilities. Obviously the only book that they have read is Animal Farm.

The economic troubles of Iceland were featured on Australian T.V.. Sounds like Iceland is due for a change of government only this time with controls and procedures in place to ensure good governance.

p.s. Didn't realize what a beautiful place Iceland is, maybe tourism could get some of that money back

  • This video is so full of crap. Sure, Iceland has faced economic diffuculty, but we are not bancrupt, and we actually have one of the lowest crime rates in the world.

  • Við erum reyndar mjög líkleg til að fara á hausinn... Steingrímur sagðist sjálfur óttast það. (ég heyrði það í útvarpinu)

  • The Viking nation should move to Canada if it's so bad.

  • yes please try to tell me why whales are different from other creatures? and why a 300.000 people hunting 200 whales will affect the overall population of whales so hard. Isn't Icelands fault that the whales were close to extinction, other nations have to take that upon themselfs.

  • Well, if it is ok for Icelanders to hunt whales, then what will prevent the Russians, Chinese, Koreans and or the Indians from assembling whale hunting fleets ?

Is it only ok for Icelanders to hunt whales because they are Icelandic ?

  • Comment removed

  • you gonna tell a viking what to do? i wouldn't..

  • what vikings ? Icelanders were just run away farmers, some couldn't even make it to Iceland, they became too seasick to continue so they stayed in the Faeroe Islands.

  • first they went with the farmers and then they dropped the seasick to faeroe islands ,what books do you read ?

with a sheep iq im intrested where you got on the internet

  • Run away farmers? no .. you're wrong.. They went from Norway to Scotland and Ireland and took slaves from there.. than they went to Iceland and survived one of the hardest winter there is in the world.. the norwegian king used then a brutal way to be the king in Iceland and Icelanders fought for years against him, finally they got freedom but then the danish king came and took the nation on his arm and that was very hard for the Icelanders who had so great story.

  • Didn't we fight the norwegian king? oh we sure did! In every icelandic story is a very bloody fight against the norwegian, the danish and the swedish king. Sometimes the Scottish and the Irish to. And of course it was difficult for Iceland to live in a house with walls of mud till the year 1900. And when we got self-control and then Independence everything started to get better. And then it got to good and we had a massive banks who terminated the Icelandic financial system.

  • I get very sad when I read something like this from people that are improperly informed.

  • Icelanders cannot compete with other countries on an equal basis. They always have to be odd, strange or crazy. „I eat horse meat, whale and sheep testicles because that makes me so special Now that Iceland has it's trousers around it's knees after their own entrepreneurs took them from behind, they have a need to feel almighty and powerful. Hence the sudden need to kill as many whales they think they can get away with. They have been suffering from an inferior complex for ages.

  • The whales aren't fucking close to extinction here, like they are in other places...

Plus, what's the difference between killing whales and killing chickens or cows for food?!

    NONE WHAT SO EVER...

    Fukcing hypocrit bastard..

Why do you have to blame a whole nation for something that a few people do?

Plus, we began eating horse meat, sheep testicles and many other weird stuff because we were so poor and had to eat everything edible..

  • the difference is that theres more chickens than people, and some whales are close to extinction. however iceland isnt responsible for the whales.

  • The whales around Iceland are not even close to extinction and that's not at all what you were arguing about before. You've just run out of ideas to bitch about whale hunting..

  • maybe you don´t like to hold on to our traditions but Þorrablót has been held in iceland for centuries and some of us like to keep on to our culture.

And grow up this is not to be fucking special.

  • I thought my financial situation was bad. hopefully Iceland can get better soon.

  • I wanted to move to Iceland one day.

  • I moved here in August. Great timing, right? No seriously - even though this crisis is hard on us up here now, things are slowly getting better, and best of all: Icelanders are beginning to act like themselves again...

I'd move here even if I had the choice again. So feel free to come here - the exchange rate is also quite fun at the moment...

  • The reporter is Norwegian and the Icelanders are talking to him in Norwegian.

  • I read a Nat Geo with an article about Icelands suffering. The people are anxious but they wont let major companies exploit their beautiful land for hydro and geo thermal energy plants.

  • journeymanpictures is perfect

  • JOURNEYMANPICTURES.....THANK u so much for keeping us informed about whats goin on in some parts of the world....i love watching your videos.....from JAPAN

  • áfram ísland!

  • Why is the police officer speaking swedish o_O?

  • No sorry, everyone is speaking swedish!

  • They're talking Danish. Learning Danish in school was mandatory back in the days, due to the fact that danes used to rule Iceland many many years ago. After the danes left they kept teaching danish in school. Today it's not mandatory, but you can learn it as a second language in school, next to german and spanish and other languages.

  • Toefetto, i Know. U see, I am Icelandic and was merely freaked out that everyone was speaking Danish with a horrid icelandic accent in the video. U see, in Iceland we don't speak Danish or any other nordic language in a daily manner, possibly do to the fact that we have our own language ffs - -''

  • I'm born there aswell, and lived there for the mostpart of my childhood. However I did not go to school there, so I don't know weather danish is still mandatory or not. However my guess about the video would be that the translator only spoke danish.

  • I don't think danish was ever a mandatory language among icelanders themselves, but we HAVE to learn it in school atm, it's not optional. And also, it was never the Danes that left, it was the Icelanders that declared independance from Denmark during WW2 as Denmark was occupied by Germany.

Apart from that, there is spoken some english in the video, so why speak Danish when most Icelanders speak english semi-fluently?

  • They are talking Norwegian.

  • ethnicity: Norwegian= Such as the country's Russian ice=Asia. Norwegian not Europe

Asian people live the north of Norway

  • Do these guys think they're American or something?

  • A small few had inside information no doubt, but iceland will bounce back, as jon pall would have said, icelandic power!

  • you little dick

greenland is danish and only has 60,000 people

    while iceland has 300,000

the only bitch to greenland is you

  • wtf you ignorant racist bastard :P

Seriously, you're comment cracked me up! :D

    -greetings from Iceland

  • The funny thing is there is an add for Bombay Sapphier to the right as I watch this.

  • i feel sad about what happened.i visited iceland this september and its one of the coolest places ive ever been ...but i have trust that things will get better . The human capital there is amazing , everybody educated ,gifted , well-mannered ( even when they're partying ) individuals

  • haha you've been lucky if you think icelanders are well mannered

I'd rather say they're mellow and liberal

icelander's usually don't care what other people do unless it harms them directly, or until it harms them directly

    like the banks did...

  • ahh come on man ... we used to go out with friends from the hostel and icelanders , male and female , old and young , would approach us and start discussing where we were from and chatting about iceland and our countries and everything...and the professionals ive met in the hostel , in the restaurant across the road or in stores downtown where nothing but friendly

  • yeah sure, Icelanders can be really friendly and nice people, but we can also be terribly nasty people, especially when we're drunk XD

  • When money looses its value, we will all think of the farmer as the wealthiest person on earth. ~Raven

  • It was a euroskeptic who ran Iceland. It shows the euroskeptics make European nations weak. They do not care about unity.

  • Well, although not Icelandic - and I have forgiven them for divorcing us in 1944 - the norse Gods are a hell of a lot more useful and intelligent than these desert religions.

The asatru is - obviously - a religion for free men and women. Which is more than you can say about the desert religions.

  • Your are very right victor190779

  • funny they point to religion in one of the most secular countries in the world...

  • Why would the Jews destroy Western Countries? The West is their only protection against a United Muslim Nation. Everyone knows the US was ' ' this close to Nuking Iraq, Iran, and Pakistan. The only reason we haven't is they haven't provoked us enough and there was too much suspicion about the circumstances of 9/11.

They nuke 1 nation treasure or release 1 biological virus and the Nuclear option will be BACK on the table.

  • In Norway, we are joking about buying Iceland.

  • you do? if so FUCK YOU NORWAY!

  • That wasn't funny the first time.

  • Ha, you are ignorant - they are no heathens, and certainly not bastards !

They are great, kind and helpful people - hopefully their economy will recover soon.

We will always be willing to help them - they are our brothers.

  • you are pathetic

  • fuck off , there are 350 thousond people in iceland!

  • I lived and worked in Iceland from 1998 - 2003. I was surprised when I went there at just how easily people took loans for anything and everything.

The Icelandic government encouraged the culture of personal debt by allowing people to claim those debts against their annual income taxes, so in effect, debt was seen as good.

There is also an elite clique of rich people who run Iceland behind the scenes, and their tentacles run through parliament and the media.

    Iceland needs real change.

  • Why is he speaking swedish with an icelandish dialect?

  • He has probably studied or worked in Sweden - many icelanders come down to Scandinavia to study.

Many of them also speak Danish - a language they have in school or in college as an introduction to Scandinavia, since the Danish, Norwegian and Swedish are very similar languages - like dialects almost.

    So he

  • my parents are architects

we live in iceland, and we're fucked

thinking about growing cannabis to get a little money XD

  • Ah, didn't think anything could grow there :-)

    Best wishes.

  • Hey im sorry to hear about your troubles. My folks house dropped 40% and their stocks dropped 25-50%. Good luck and know that this will blow over one day. Time to stand up against the bankers. Last time america abolished its central bank the country went into depression right before as bankers dried up all the loans. Then they tried to blame it on the president (jackson) and there was an assasination attempt on him.

  • well the bankers in iceland are from here, though.

they're just greedy thugs that's all

in america you have a much bigger problem.

the banks are mostly controlled by jews, who don't even belong in america, as they're loyal to Israel (just making assumptions here), and thus they don't care at all what happens to america and they try to milk it as much as they can for their zionist goals

  • The figures are staggering. Loans of 12 times the nation's GDP?! This shows how dangerous cheap credit is. Credit stimulates consumption, which determines higher wages, and with higher wages come even more loans, and the cycle repeats itself. Banks feel safe, businesses feel safe, consumers feel safe until the boogeyman shows up with the bill. Credit-fueled economic growth creates a false wealth that everyone is due to pay for, sooner or later. Same as in 1929.

  • WEll, all central banks created insane amounts of money (not printed, created) which was in no way representing the actual values the money represents. So everything became more expensive. The central banks then tried to fight the inflation they had created themselves by increasing interest rates...nice system we have.

Watch the "zeitgeist addendum" film, it explains very well whats wrong with our enconomy.

  • It will be sad to see the people of Iceland suffer just because there were some uncontrolleable urge of greed here in the US.

  • I'm from iceland

what fucked up iceland was actually an uncontrollable urge of greed from corrupt bankers and politicians, but the banks grew far beyond what the national budget could insure, so iceland can't pay the bank's debts.

  • Hmm, sounds familiar. Like here in the United States. We certainly haven't seen the bottom here either.

  • wtf language are they speaking? its not icelandic i know that but why are they speaking swedish or watnot? wtf

  • norwegian

  • it's norwegian, but I have no idea why. I'm norwegian and I had no idea icelanders spoke norwegian as well english and icelandic.

  • theay are The most educated peoples i have ever come across and altough im you ive seen alot.

i feel so horrible for them.

  • oh yeah, and in the middle one of them is speaking swedish.
