Wink wears grant gloves, this is both a pro and a con . great to hide behind but hard to issue a big pop! hence J.C and fmj . Rjj and bhop have been able to muster sum power but they are naturally powerful guys .
People say Winky can't hit. Thats not true. He hurt Taylor several times and Mosley too. Mosley almost got knocked down at the end and he has a solid chin.
@TGUNZ562 Yeah, that camera quality being so piss poor gives you some chronological context on how long Wright has been fighting.
@Jorsalfar I think most people mean that he no power comparatively compared to all other elite fighters. It's also true that he never really sits down on his punches either, which furthers the perception that he has not power.
Wright is pretty much for sure going to fight Paul Williams at this point, and... I can't imagine he comes away with a victory. He sucks against volume punchers, and he will have ring rust for days, not to mention, his defense is not what it once was, and has been shown as diminished ever since the Sam Soliman fight.
Yes please... there are not enough Winky vids on here. what's up with that? They say Winky is not a crowd pleaser... that's a load of crap. Boxing is boxing, true fans aren't interested in Hollywood flare all the time.
@jugg2000 Old comment, but I agree. Wright's totally unique style, where he puts himself in harm's way, standing in front of his opponent and showing off the tremendous skill of his blocking defense, and going to war (albeit a usually one-sided war) without any power is incredible to me. However, that version of Wright didn't show up until about the time he fought Fernando Vargas. Early Wright was closer to a Vernon Forrest type of style (the first Mosley fight is not a good example of this).
FYI everyone, you know how Calzaghe vs. Hopkins is supposed to happen? I guess Hopkins has been fucking around, and not been trying to make much progress on signing the contract, so Calzaghe said if the Hopkins fight doesn't pan out, he would like to fight Winky Wright. Winky responded by saying that he would be more than ready to fight Joe Calzaghe.
This fight will probably never happen, but at least there is the possibility of it happening.
I would LOVE to see Joe fight Winky Wright and Bernard Hopkins, I'm a big fan of all of them, no idea who would win, I think I'd favour Calzaghe against them both though..just.
very true, I think I'd even pick Winky to beat Mayweather at 147, not sure if Winky could get down to 147 though, what do you think? also what do you think would have happened if Winky fought Hopkins 4 years ago at 160? personally I think the outcome would have been the same, maybe even a stoppage win for B-Hop.
@axel151 I know this is old, but I decided to check the comments on all of my videos tonight, and am answering discussion promoting ones.
Winky's last fight at 147 was when he was 12-0. Trying to figure out a Wright/FMJ fight at 147 is pointless, since Winky was so green/fighting in a different style. 154 is the only suitable weight for that fantasy fight.
Hopkins was weakened by the weight even back in 2003 IMO. I'd give Wright a great chance of winning and he definitely wouldn't get stopped.
Yeah I agree with you, not totally sure if Pavlik would have too much for him though, possibly, but Winky's shell defence was, and still is brilliant, definitely a fight I'd like to see happen next year sometime, I just think he'd outjab Kelly and win a lot of rounds doing it, but then again Pavlik is hugely powerful, would only take one clean shot, and we know Winky can get hit clean like he did against Taylor. He has a great chin though, toss up.
At 154 pounds... sure as hell not at 170 vs. Hopkins, and age has probably taken away the opportunity for him to have significant power at 160 either.
definitely no power at Light Heavy, 160 I'm not too sure, but then again Winky hasn't relied on his power to win fights in a long, long time, and age? I'm not too sure about that, yeah he's 35, but he's an extremely skilled technical boxer, who gets hit to the head a lot less than most boxers due to his amazing defence, I'd pick him to beat Mayweather at 154 if Mayweather would move back up again, and I'd pick him over Pavlik, simply down to his amazing boxing/defensive skills.
This shit really reminds you of how old Winky is.

Winky wright is so underrated the only reason Hopkins beat him was because he was fighting at light heavy..and winkys been a career light middle.
pastrana1969 4 years ago
true winky landed more punches but hopkins got the harder cleaner punches in
enoyes2005 3 years ago
winky wright is a great fighter and not underrated. before he lost to hopkins he was number 2 pound 4 pound behind only mayweather.

Winky Wright will be on Friday Night Fights as the guest commentator this Friday!
He will probably give us some insight on who his next opponent is going to be (tentatively obviously).
DWiens421 4 years ago
Pavlik is not a one punch puncher. He's a hard accumalation puncher.
86pimp3 4 years ago
Huh?? Pavlik is a devastating one-punch puncher. Pavlik kills with one punch and keeps throwing behind it. I think you're way off on that analysis.

nobody can beat floyd right now at all

Yeah possibly, both great fighters, would be an amazing fight.
axel151 4 years ago
I think he beats both Mayweather at 154 and Pavlik at 160... too skilled for Pavlik, and too big for Mayweather Jr.
Mayweather has no business fighting at 154.
DWiens421 4 years ago

At 154 a prime Winky beats Mayweather. At 147 he would be too weight-drained, so I'd take Floyd. At 160 I think Pavlik has a bit too much for him.
Mowglieboy69 4 years ago
