I'm from the UK and I watch all the SCI-FI from the US.

Shows such as stargate, battlestar galactica and caprica get me up in the morning.

No american TV can beat classic british Red Dwarf. I'm happy the American version never made it to air, this version is not funny at all. The characters are completely the opposite to the British Characters.

This is just a really, really bad sitcom...

this is just a bastardized, unfunny, watered-down, oversimplified hot thick load of failure that would have left Red Dwarf (the show that helped me survive my childhood) a forgotten cheesy sitcom, specially designed for the U.S. i frown upon Grant and Naylor for creating this mockery of a pilot and its insultingly oversimplified plot and jokes.

i am sure if this aired it would be the downfall of RD in America

The worst idea from the later revamp was a FEMALE Cat, played by Terry Farrel. Yes, she owuld have been hot-- But that would be the trouble. Why pine over Kochanski when you have an oversexed cat woman on board? It would have totally screwed up the show's dynamic.

Yeah the thing is they actually got Grant and Naylor to go over there to help write the thing but everything they wrote the network guys rejected because it wasnt funny enough (note the canned laughter and set one liners). Even the Cast threatened to walk saying they preffered the unedited scripts but in the end the network got its way and it bombed accordingly.

Sadly, yes. But then copies are usually failures - only exception I can think of is the U.S. version of the Office, which was good once they stopped copying the original completely.
