Public Option Save a Trillion per year

According to the Economist the total US spending on health care is 17.6% of GDP or 2.2 Trillion dollars. With that we get 2.6 doctors & 3.3 hospital beds per 1,000 people, and we live to an avg. age of 78.2 As a whole Europe spends 9.6% of GDP on health care, has 3.9 doctors & 6.6 hospital beds per 1,000 people and live until they are 81.15 old. If we would just model a European health plan we would save 1 Trillion Dollars a year. Thats 1 Trillion!!!

In anticipation of this being passed, Walmart has drastically cut the Pharmacy benefits (no cost reduction) section of their healthcare insurance as of 8/10/09...mid-year changes without any say so from their employees!

Brand-name drugs are no longer covered under existing insurance plans. NetRX who administers the pharmacy option was informed by Walmart, NOT the insurance company to drop brand-name drugs.

Please don't just suggest a public option bill just to get democrats to vote for it. Make sure it's a valid and working plan first.

The current bills with public options in them all have nice little loopholes added for the insurance companies to use. One of the bills won't let you buy into the public plan if your employer offers insurance coverage. WTF?

Is it not odd that we pay our congress men and women almost four times the salary of the average American? Isn't it also odd that someone can make a career being in those positions? Wouldn't it seem like likely they would say whatever is necessary to keep that salary? Is it wrong to think they would do whatever is necessary to stay in power? Doesn't it seem weird that even though we keeping changing presidents, nothing is really changing? Doesn't that have something to do with those in Congress?

Before last week I said that public option is all but dead. But hearing these type of words from Pelosi and from Anthony Weiner last week, it's certainly getting some hope building again.

Props for Pelosi and Weiner for laying it down for Obama. Tomorrow we'll see what effect, if any, these have had.

1 - be tens-of-millions large

2 - only opt-ers get subsidized

3 - option open to one and all

4 - authorized to use Medicare's bargained-down reimbursment rates

5 - insurance companies have to offer no less than the pub op's new-legal-minimum benefits package.
