The success of the conspiracy would have stopped the murdering in the KZs, the senseless butchering at the fronts, it would have made the end of the war much less cruel for all, also for the Germans of course, especially those in the Eastern regions. Nobody knows whether it would have prevented the deportations or not.

Don't get me wrong here. I even believe Germany would have won the war or at least lost a heck of lot less soldier's if it wasn't for Hitler. Then again many German generals had WWI fresh in memory and didn't want to go down that path again but since they had sworn their loyalty to Hitler...

The SS divisions were incredibly disciplined fighters if fanatical and loyal to the nazi cause. Not an insignificant number of SS men actually joined more to be fighting with elite units than being the nazi party's armed forces. Reports and diaries of the SS men reveal some of them had respect for their enemy and their equipment. The Wehrmacht was hardly free from "thugs", I wonder if the SS men were in on the rapes?? Think not.

When the number of soldiers began to decline the nazis granted almost any people "aryan status" or semi-aryan. They were not picky as long as they fought for the Germans. While we are on the topic of WW2, I just needed to remind you that according to any good book about WW2, 80 percent of the Wehrmacht's casaulties were on the Eastern Front, and without the majority of the German army AND other axis armies behind held up there you can forget all about invading France. Hence the lend lease program, which for you must have been the bargain of the century.

Nice to see a documentary on one of the most odious examples of Nazidom. Certainly, Friesler was a madman, a bloody tyrant of his domain, and a butcher without peer. But he should be seen more as a demonstration of the simple boorish buffonery that was the cornerstone of Nazi behavior. Bad enough they were murderers, but Friesler and his ilk were not even dignified enough to be monsters. Despite their crimes, he and the hierarchy of Nazidom were little more than clowns trying to be men.

And an national interest in this case did not exclude an interest for all mankind at all!! All participants knew that the war was lost and that a successful assassination attempt meant unconditional surrender (von Trott zu Solz who negotioted got no concessions of the Allies at all!!) but would have saved millions of lives.

Their success would have stopped the bombings. The Allies stopped all bombings july the 20th 1944 (they knew the date before), doing this was their only concession. The success of the conspiracy would have stopped the murdering in the KZs, the senseless butchering at the fronts, it would have made the end of the war much less cruel for all, also for the Germans of course, especially those in the Eastern regions. Nobody knows whether it would have prevented the deportations or not.

Jaja.. die Philosophen... wenn dann auch noch "Tübinger Schule", dann ist Gott und die Philosophie nicht weit... ist aber alles etwas rückständig, denn ohne Mathematik kann man die Welt nicht verstehen (wir stossen die Tür zu "Gott" diese Tage in Genf auf, und kein Philosoph kann hier mehr mitreden... smile), und diese wurde ja aus der philosop. Fakultät entfernt. Aber Philosophie ist a gut, "to woo women/men" (frei nach: Dead Poet's Society)

fobalis, die Philosophie bringt m. E. kaum neue Erkenntnisse - daher habe ich dies Studium auch abgehakt. Nur musste ich ein wenig über die Bemerkung schmunzeln "wir stossen die Tür zu "Gott" dieser Tage auf". Jaja, der Mensch hält sich schon seit Anbeginn seiner Existenz für superschlau - und er wird niemals einsehen, dass er sich selbst überschätzt. Was jetzt in Genf passiert ist sensationell, jedoch wird dadurch mein Verständnis von "Gott" nicht zerstört, sondern bestätigt.

They lost even more. I i remeber right the relation of dead soldiers were 1 to 4. So one dead german soldier were in relation to 4 dead sovjet soldiers. Its a sick world. Hope we´ll never have to go through something like this. And never have to meet people like Freisler.

I dunno guys. I've known a lot of judges. If you told most of them that all they had to do to keep their jobs was start executing people for the state, you'd have a hard timme keeping them from pulling the trigger themselves.
