I am always amazed at how Evangelicals claim to follow Scripture, but knowingly violate the commandment against bearing false witness by using the lies and half-truths of Jack Chick and others like him to attack the Church Jesus founded.
@Audinos - It is not ½-truths. I was raised RC. I was educated in their private schools. I received most of the 7 sacraments, and considered becoming a priest at one time. I studied Catholic councils (Florence, Trent, Vat 2). What you personally may believe may not be what the RCc actually teaches. Have you read the latest Catechism (1992)? What is portrayed in this video is exactly what the RCc teaches. If you believe otherwise, you are anathema. You are cursed by your own religion.
God isn't playing gotcha with anyone. We can read his word and pray for revelation of truth. If your heart is in the right place he will reveal what it takes for you to have eternal life.
The minute we say to ourselves, I hope I'm doing enough good things is when we are not relying on Christ for the gift he's given us. I haven't seen this chic track in a long, long time..thanks for posting this...Linda
This actually depressed me. The "villian" was depicted as being someone who wanted to be with God, while the no-face Jesus was shown to be a meanie who played "GOTCHA!" games with people. :(
I'm certainly not Catholic. I seem to fit the definition of being "saved" in every way imaginable. But watching this makes me wonder if Jesus will play some kind of "gotcha!" game with me, too. I mean, He could ALWAYS find something to reject us for, from what I hear various pastors say. Scary..
Scott, it's not a case of gotcha. God reveals Himself to us in a variety of ways. In this video, the man shut down the woman bringing him the truth. People reject Him on a daily basis. When we witness, we are offering people a chance. We spread the good news of our salvation with others. We throw the life preserver which is the Gospel. But it is up to the person drowning to grab hold and hang on. If they refuse the safety provided, they will ultimately sink and drown.
Yes. I just hope it's true. I seem to meet no end of pastors who endlessly try to convince people they're never really "saved." They actually talk as though YOU WON'T SIN once you're in Christ. "If we keep on sinning, we aren't in Christ" or something like that. I try hard not to sin, but... anyone cheked how EASY it is? One wrong thought, action, beahvioe, attitude, word... I think the Tony Alamo pastor types are preaching the impossible. :/
There's a great video I want you to watch. It's presented by Dr. James White. I just saved one of his videos to my favorite list on my channel, "Theology Matters: Peace with God". If you have not, you might consider subscribing.
He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. (John 3:18).
It's tragic, but a reality nonetheless. Do we get depressed and quit? No. The Bible tells us to earnestly content for the faith once delivered. We must continue to throw the life preserver even to those floundering and to those who aren't aware they are drowning. Jesus said He is the way, the truth and the life. He is the Captain of our salvation. God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son whosoever believes in Him shall be saved.
