  • His stance isn't even naihanchi dachi, this is hilarious, well actually it's rather sad.

Because of "senseis" like this people see karate as some asian bs instead of the great martial art it is. can't believe you would put this fiasco on youtube.

  • Very sharp - very difficult Kata to execute well. I find keeping the Naihanchi stance throughout one of the biggest challenges. Also found that this is one Kata where using mirrors really doesn't help. I also struggle with getting a correct breathing technique as I'm often nackered afterwards... oh well, I'm only 2nd kyu, lots to learn...

  • too fast IMO

  • Interesting self defence, judo I liked, though tended to be more physical, was less agressive.

  • awsome kata !!! Only few differences from shorin ryu version

  • Sensei Suzuki also does a rather nice version of Naihanchi. "Sensei " Bayliss does a different version to the great master.

    Maybe that's evolution.

    Or just something else ?

  • In Naihanchi done by Tatsuo Suzuki, every move is a single move. Therefore the combinations of techniques done in this are incorrect. This kata is not and should not be easy to master, but these days people get dan grades in 12 months for just turning up.

  • @aiko4321 I can clearly see that you know nothing about wado-ryu. The way we generate energy is WITH our HIP.

  • This is similar to the Black Belt Pattern for ITF/TAGB Tae Kwon-Do called Po-Eun.

  • lol he teaches me now i don't hav to buy the D.V.D

  • no good

  • constructive criticism welcome

  • I think the kata was performed well and I think its one that would have been traditionally used if you were defending yourself on narrow pier for example. You can't knock the apparent power there and it would likely stop an assailant. However, having been taught by Sensei Enoeda and Ohta in Shotokan the past I'd say aesthetically Japanese are physically more adept than people with a european body type. Afterall, it's in their blood and theres no substitute.

  • Naihanchi is one of the only kata where there is no real variation in timing; although there can be differences in timing, what is presented here is done too fast. I will not label myself an expert, but I know Wado enough to understand that Naihanchi emphasizes strength in each technique, rotation of the hips in certain techniques (ie. the opening move with the shuto), aspects which are lacking here. Not a bad kata, but not the best demonstration of what Naihanchi really is.

  • Just arms, no internal work going on. What happened to the hips, waist, opening and closing of the chest, spine, etc.? Do you truly believe that any of the techniques he performed would have any effect on an opponent?

  • Different martial arts believe different ways of generating force, speed.. Even different karate styles.. ane even in same style different schools, and sometimes even in same school different teachers.. are using different ways.. Cant say this is the best or only this is correct.. I like orange juice mostly doesnt mean, orange juice is the best ..

  • Your point being...? So you like orange juice... good for you! It is not a matter of liking. It is a matter of generating the appropiate amount of energy in every technique, and to achieve that you can't rely solely on your arms and hips.

  • I knw that s normal for TaiChi ppl.. Most of them think Taichi is only the best and that s the only martial art in the world. And Taichi theories are the only theories. In Chinese community it's same.. I knw coz, I teach Tai Chi and Karate both. If you see, Kyokushin, Shorin Ryu, Goju Ryu, Tai Chi, Wing TSun, etc.. they generate power in different ways.. Thnks

  • Hahaha, and kyokushin people walk different than wado people? And Shotokan they must shurely use a whole different set of muscles and tendons than Wadoryu... Well... no,you see, your anatomy conditions you. You use your feet to walk, regardless of style, and your eyes to see, regardless of style... We have one body and multiple ways of using it. Or do you use knowledge depending on who gave it to you? If that is your case, then it is very dogmatic and impractical.

  • By the way I don't define myself as a Tai chi person. My main martial art is Karate, although i study taichi, bojusu and iaido. So I don't think that taichi is the best or the only martial art in the world, it's not the art, it's the practitioner. And the practitioner can't be that good if he goes through life not using valuable tools because they don't come from the "right" style...

  • Hahahaha.. Funny.. Then u dnt need a teacher.. Just do what u want.. Ur body and u do anything what u want.. I agree, even same martial art different to a practicioner and i was telling the same thing.. At least u must learn who is a teacher.. Thank u

  • Add few of ur videos.. Then we can see how u generate ur power.. May b u r the best in the world.. Who knws

  • Wrong again buddy! Everybody is my teacher! I guess that you just don't want to understand what I mean. I am saying that you do not generate enrgy differently in different martial arts, you can't! The human body is the same regardless of what MA you train.

  • What I mean is generating enery, some styles generates enegry from circular hip movement, some with linear hip movement, some just use body weight and gravity.. Just learn about different styles and principles.. And remember to upload u doing Naihanchi.. It might b the greatest Naihanchi in youtube.. Pls, upload

  • Wrong again...I do need a teacher, in fact I have more than one. What I am saying is that human anatomy conditions the way we do things, and THAT is independent of what MA you train. The rest is hot air, just words...

  • I am not the best in the world, but that won't stop me from telling them as I see them.

Whether you like it or not. The kata shown here is simply not good, why state otherwise?

  • I agree this kata is not good.. But, it doesnt mean every style use hips for power generation. Certain Karate styles dont bother about hip movement.. Diferent MA hv different principles.. Just upload, ur Naihanchi, then we can see, how u geherate power

  • And then what? whatever you say I can just say in my style we do it this way... with your mentality it's impossible to say what is right and what needs improvement. Upload something yourself, lets see if your karate is as dull as your writings . One las question are you trying to discuss or to win? You can't.

  • You can go and see my Naihanchi at watch?v=DGyZi-nmXrM if u wnt.. Anyway, I nvr told my Niahanchi is the best. Upload ur Naihanchi... This video of Sensei Byliss is from Wado Ryu.. Wado ppl dont use hip much to generate power.. They use arm mostly.. TQ.. Pls, upload ur Naihanchi, then we can see ur generation of power..

  • Hahaha, you know nothing about Wado ryu! I've been studying Wado since 1986 and I can asure you boy that Wado uses a lot of hip! You want to see my naihanchi, buy the DVD :o) I saw your kata, good hip movement, but you buckle your knees...

  • haha.. stop talking and post ur naihanchi.. U r so funny man

  • Do you want me to take you seriously? You write with total conviction about things you know absolutely nothing about! And on top of that you want me to expose myself to the rantings of an ignorant youth, please wake up!

  • Hahahahaha.. I think it's better u train hard without trying to correct other s techniques and finding other s errors.. 1, 2 , 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10

  • Yep think you should, it does not seem to come easy to you.

  • hahahhahaha u r so funny

    1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10

    Jst go n practice :D

    Gambatte Kudasai.

  • Gambarimasu!

  • Good then.. 1,2,3,4,5,7,8,9,10

  • well done sensie nice and smooth again keep up the good work

  • whats!to fast everyone is different who says how fast you have to be there are no rules

  • too fast man!

  • this a truly great karateka and is a legend in his own life time

  • Completely rushed kata. No pauses where there should be! Did you run out of tape? Or were the squash players waiting to get on?

3/10 for effort. (or if you were at a Wado Tournament i would barely give it 6.1)

  • who cares about tournaments ,and winning plastic trophies

    they dont mean anything

  • I agree that, even I dont comment about the performance of this kata.. Trophies, tournaments is just for an experience.. True Karate is for life :)
