The pics they put in advertising has been made up with things that look pretty, but would make the product inedible or just gross or not the same thing (like when they use mashed potatoes for ice cream ads). They doll it up with make up and tack in place with nails and screws. Then in reality, they put the actual edible food in the boxes and wrappers. But since you already bought it, it doesn't have to look as pretty!
Did you do this experiment yourself? Its interesting. There was a Rissitto (Ithink) which looked like dog puke. Mind you the sanitised version did too.
The naivete' of the general public is commonly exploited.Grapes get botanically-engineered with seeds removed...What do we find on the vitami aisles of drugstores, though?Grape seed Extract, the seed being the most nutritious part of grapes.
i understand that on madison avenue they use cleverly made plastic foods to photograph because the real stuff would look even worse that it does anyway after hours under hot photographic lights. and human models are photoshopped into impossible thinness and unnatainable standards of beauty. in fairy tales all girls are undiscovered princesses and all men heroic charming princes whose arrival signals happy ever after!
it's true, all advertising is bait and switch.can't we love things as they are?
Jana, where did you get all those photos? That chocolate chip cookie one was hilarious! Was that for real? I've never seen one that bad - that's like a class action suit in the making.
Reminds me of that film of Morgan Spurlock´s, "Super Size Me", i.e. swallow thrash, become an addict in junk food and be happy forever! Maybe a better sound track for this should be a Heavy Metal music!
First, food photography is an art and they are paid good money to transform the mundane into the spectacular. Second, are you suggesting you aren't the "real" braz when you are primped and made up for a night on the town?
Shouldn't we use the "best" shot to represent us? Same goes for food. Remember the food that is photographed hasn't been put into a wrapper first then stuffed into a bag and then unwrapped again.
Just some food for thought by a staunch anti fast/prepared food guy.
BBO, Mc donalds prepares the food as ou order it, it´s not been packed, wrapped or otherwise..same goes for many of the others...how about the cookies with chocolate chips?
And when I´m pimped for a night out...nobody has to buy me or swallow me, it´s totally different, imo...
Well, from my memory, all the burgers come in a wrapper, in a bag. They are prepared by underpaid workers that most likely hate their jobs. First the burger is prepared by someone that doesn't care, then they wrap it, then it gets put into a bag with 3 others and fries. After a long car ride, or even a simple tote back to the table, odds are they'll look like crap, but taste just as expected. It is the "taste" you're buying, not the looks. Same goes for the package chocolate and cakes.
Joseph, you are defending the indefensible. Food produced by the corporate world is a giant disappointment and people should be less tolerant of it, not more.
Everyone should be going to Joseph's house to get real food. Food that's fresh and that delights the senses.
I think you have a point, but my aim is balance not defense. In my view Braz is complaining about the pictures, to me, a non issue. The real issue is the crappy food itself, not the doctored photos.
bbo, what this complains about is not the photos, but the false advertising. I mean look at the cookies, for instance...where are the chocolate chips they put in the pic? I guess they´ve melted when being packed?
However, my point is that your point takes a backseat in the bigger picture because... it would be like if someone was advertising STDs and was using "cool" pics/advertising strategies and then people carping about their STDs not being nearly as cool as those depicted. The advertising isn't the issue as much as is the products. And yes, I am comparing American fast food to STDs.
Sad indeed. It seems that all of our society is run by liers that control not only the goods we wear, eat, medicate, and use but also whether we shall have a long happy life or not. It is a reality that to even the scales of justice you need money on one side.
Actually...I may just be weird, but at 1:08 the advertised version looked worse...

When I was a kid I would feel let down when it it didn't look like the picture. Not just food, but toys etc.
I've heard travel brochures are the same way.
As an adult I guess I've come to accept the difference.

CK..i felt the same way. I thought those cars would be jumping all over the room and look like shiny little automobiles! haha!

I once helped a friend by photographing her food.
You need the illusion, or it does not look good. Photographing people too.
You are right. It is an art.
