The German offensive of 1918 came very, very close to succeeding. Having said that, it was battles like Verdun and the Somme that sapped the Germany Army's effectiveness.
And the fat they had effectively run out of men to fight, were being blockaded by the RN, surrounded and had no allies left. Wether America joined in or not, the allies would have won it,

If the Americans hadn't have joined, the UK would be fine, and the Russians would have still single-handedly won the war.
If the Russians had stayed allied with Germany, however, even if the US joined, the allies would have lost.
Britain and France had already wrapped the war up by then, us (and France) pushed the Germans back in W.Europe. Britain crushed the Ottomans in the middle east, we beat the Germans in Africa, and then we (With E.European allies) beat the last remaining allies Germany had. So in the end, Germany had no allies, was surrounded, had no young and willing men left and Germany was being blockaded by the British Grand fleet. We won it, not America.

They like to think they took over and won, taking any credit, when in actual fact Britain and France declared war, we (Britain) were never invaded nor did surrender, won the major and significant battles i.e.(battle of britain) were already fighting for over 3 years before they backed us with military presence and they gave us a push at the last minute to make it a British + Commonwealth + allies Victory!!

The bound comes from the fact that many Americans, alot of American culture and ideals/principles came from those who moved from Britain to the New World which became the USA.
Its more than a friendship its a strong ethnic connection, culturally, religiously, politicly etc.
Any member of either the US or UK armed forces who have served with soldiers from the other side will tell you both got along together fantastic. Both armies are among the best in the world!

Don't you just find it really irritating when Americans think they won the war? They like to think they took over and won, taking any credit, when in actual fact Britain and France declared war, we (Britain) were never invaded nor did surrender, won the major and significant battles i.e.(battle of britain) were already fighting for over 3 years before they backed us with military presence and they gave us a push at the last minute to make it a British + Commonwealth + allies Victory!!
