  • this is LEG... wait for it... wait for it.. ENDARY

  • suited up, awesome..... *seems familiar*

  • thank god there are still great musicians in the mainstream that can keep jimmi's music alive and expose the poor youth(say that because modern music in the mainstream sucks..most of it) to the greatness.

  • 2:10 bitches talking while mayer plays one of the most beautiful solos i ever heard.

  • Comment removed

  • @gunto04 ...i guess they don't give a fuck about the music they just went to the gig to see him.... some people will jump onto you like flies to a pile of shit just because you are famous.... they surely deserve a nice cup of STFU!

  • The bassist is great

  • John Frusciante is a better musician. Also has better hendrix covers.

  • @GuitarMacable True in some ways, and I like them both. But last time I checked, music was never a competition, but an art. It's a way of expression. You go into music thinking like a competitor you'll never find or create what you want to hear.

  • @Ugazful Very true i should of worded my comment differently. I cant say hes a better musician when they play different music. I simply have always been more of a Frusciante fan. But i loved that video of from Rolling Stones Magazine where they are both jamming along with some other guy, you should check it out

  • @GuitarMacable the other guy in that Rolling Stones jam, Derek Trucks, is absolutely incredible as well! very tasty licks with a lot of moving power behind them. As a Frusciante and Mayer fan as well I'd definitely recommend checking him out some more. totally different style, but man can he play

  • @wakesurfer1 OH EM GEE people mentioning Frusciante

  • @TimmehTRP problem?

  • @wakesurfer1 No, I love him and I never find him mentioned anywhere besides the obvious hardcore fanbases where I am part of..

  • @GuitarMacable so true :D John mayer is ok but notn much

  • All those girls that scream at the beginning, I bet 75% of them think this is John Mayer's song. A damn shame.

  • @JHahn812 you are truly right.

  • I FUCKING LOVE THIS

  • probably you are right, i don't know, but most of the people that watch him play, says that he is a really good player with a lot of talent. and besides i am a mayer fan, i can admit that it's true that he sells pop albums, but that's really common in this times. whatc an you tell me about gaga, that she studied in berkley, but she start selling shit to became famous.

mayer is kind of doing the same, but that doen't mean he isn't an awsome player/musician.

  • what i hate is that everytime someone makes a cover everybody comes to critizise it. this is an awesome cover, so if some people wants to be closed-mind, get out of here! is very simple.

  • John Mayer is a very unique person. He plays the guitar like no one else. I think Mayer is a true, free minded, artistic shit bag!

  • The bass player literally looks like a dickhead.

  • @RadarSol Well... could be, except Pino Palladino is one of THE most respected bass players in the world - that gives him the right to look exactly as he prefers!

  • @RadarSol bruh, do you know who that is? Pino Palladino my nigga. The dude keeps a pocket ohh so tight! He can swing, he be funky, and as blues as he wants... his swag is one 1 trillion.

  • @RadarSol Hahahahaah, that shit cracked me up..

  • @RadarSol hey fuck you buddy i wouldnt be talkin shit about this bass player. hes a damn good bass player.. why dont you get up there and play?

  • @KaosProductions94 im not talking to you!

  • Yeah, the speech sounds really corny, but then you play guitar. That compensates ANYTHING

  • no one jams with pino

  • Comment removed

  • Hendrix, SRV = Died :(

But, luckily, we got Mayer, we got a good guitarrist for years n' years!

  • @Dekazeta11 Hendrix and SRV didn't die! They're just teaching god how to play guitar!

  • It doesnt even make sense how talented he is? <33

  • I don't understand why people compare John Mayer to Jimi Hendrix. They were both amazing players in their own ways.

  • I bet about 500,000 of those views are mine lol

  • i dont think anyone hating has any idea how hard what he is doing is.....

  • Ok, at 8:33. Bottom right, does that not look like Eric Clapton, even a little bit?

  • I know its been said before, but god that bassist looks just like Prince Charles! :D

  • This makes me happy to play a fender :)... why deosnt mine do that?

  • John Mayer makes me just smile and amazed. its almost euphoric. He also makes me want a Strat

  • To those fans who think that Mayer is a sort of reincarnation of Hendrix or something, go and listen the "Electric Ladyland" album, and you will see how small Mayer is compare to that awesome genius, small, small, small, small....

  • @dumbletone if EL makes mayer look "small" what about the guy that has to resort to attempting to demean him on the internet? he never said he was jimi hendrix, and he probably is of the same mind as you are about his comparison to him. call me whenever your playing a sold out show at the nokia theater, or whenever you win a grammy, or sell millions of records, or have the widespread respect of almost every musician in the industry. i'll be waiting, ignorant fuck

  • @chillguitardude10Mayer is playing the nokia theatre ONLY because of his pop music for teens. And you know it. Just like Madona or Justin Bieber, yeah.. He would NEVER play in some stadium just with the way he plays guitars. So to you, Robben Ford, Larry Carlton, or Tommy Emmanuel (true awesome players) are some fuckers because they are only playing some clubs ? Who is the ignorant fuck ? Asshole..

  • @dumbletone I would prefer if you dont presume to tell me what I know. I have yet to hear a song by him that only appeals to teens. Im not sure if your aware of the demographic of people that are at his shows but its about 50 % guitar players and 50% girls that want to sleep with him. I'd say he's doing something right. At no point did i say playing legitimate club venues makes you "some fuckers" i play on a club circuit... To answer your last question, you sir are the ignorant fuck.

  • @chillguitardude10 Ok.. So you're part of those guys who wants to make him a genius although he's not. As you want. But you should listen to guys like Matt Schofield, Kirk Fletcher or Eric Gales... Those guys are truly awesome, but almost nobody knows about them because they don't sell pop records... It's just a shame. (i'm a professional musician too)

  • john looks like mybe he got some james taylors blood runnin throught his vains he acts just like him anybody with a good eye can spto it right off

  • everyone doesnt play the same john plays pretty damn well good luck in the furturerock those blues ol jonny ol jonny ol boy

  • For people who honestly think that he can just cover really good guitar songs and doesn't have original songs that are as complex and challenging i would like to direct you to the song "Neon". Preferably the live acoustic version from this same show.

  • this man will be a guitar legend years from now, i guarantee it

  • I LIKE HOW HE GOES INTO THAT STILL RAINING STILL DREAMING HENDRIX GROOVE!!!!!!!!!!! i think thats where its from!!! well actually i dunno.... its a cool groove tho... sounds familiar....

  • it pisses me off how good he is lol

  • Jimi Hendrix,SRV,John Mayer

    best blues guitarists ever..

  • @MixatoFreeKill completely agree :)

  • His speech wasnt great but it was good for his stage presence... i like this guy

  • AMAZING LIFE by Brett O'Malley ----- Groooooooooovy Tune!!

  • He put a reggae flair on this but in no way can he approach Jimi's version.

Enough with the rap Johnny boy just stfu & play !

  • totally agree with you.

  • The best f**cking cover ever! Jimi would be so proud!

  • when he starts playin the crowd reacts like they know the song, LOL, posers..

  • @RadarSol lol why would you say that maybe they did know it

  • @RadarSol Maybe the crowd does know the song?

  • aaaw, well that's probably YOUR opinion because the hall world think he's one of the best musicians. anyway, i respect your opinion.

    god... he's incredibly awesome-

  • "When I die, I want people to play my music, go wild and freak out and do anything they want to do." Jimi Hendrix.

  • Not gonna lie, I like this version so much more than Hendrix'. It's just so much more, rhythmic, melodic and put together. No disrespect to JH though...

  • Did he just play with one hand at the end...... FUUUUUUUUUU !!!!!!!!!!!

  • MrSneakyMode brought me here.

  • best perfomance ever

Just realize, he plays 3 acts, (with some breaks) but still, just FUCKNG MUCH RESPECT FOR THIS GUY!

  • way to ruin a piece of history. thats all. no criticism. the cheering at the end was a result of that black man's drum solo. PEACE

  • @YaBoysFresh no one made you watch or listen. if you're gonna hate then just watch something else its that simple

  • @TheOneTheyCallTurner Not hating, just stating.

  • @YaBoysFresh just stating? time wasting

  • @TheOneTheyCallTurner id hasten my thoughts but you happened to be a recreation of john mayer in the form of a faggot.

  • @YaBoysFresh calling me a faggot how original. why dont you go dig a hole and sit in it or something.

  • @TheOneTheyCallTurner J.M.D.R.L.N.O. you know what that is an acronym for? john mayer dick riding like none other

  • @YaBoysFresh nobody cares. write it in your fucking diary okay?

  • @BurgerGrabber im not like you bud.. i dont keep a diary. feel free to log it in yours though, just uses quotes

  • @YaBoysFresh you're so cool. way cooler than john mayer. i bet you get all the bitches and everyone wants to be your friend. fuckin jackass

  • @TheOneTheyCallTurner thats weird are you following me? how do you know this? i have enough friends though mann, sorry :(

  • I think that this wonderful piece that Jimi wrote is absolutely magic. It doesn't matter who plays it, it will always express the Jimi's brilliant way to feel music

  • anyone else notice at the very end of the song when he is still soloing while only holding the guitar with one hand. this must be seen

  • John Mayer is an underrated guitarist. In my opinion he's one of the greatest guitarist of the modern times.

  • @SoneAlways hes good, but hes not on caliber to be one of the greats.

  • @darklord2626 agreed, he's an imitator, but to become a great you gotta innovate in your own way aswell

  • @SoneAlways Did you actually type that? John mayer is good with his instrument. But by no means if he one of the greatest, or anything close to it. His repertoire consists of mainly Stevie Ray Vaughan inspired licks and runs.

  • @SoneAlways Also, he lacks that artistry in him. SRV, Hendrix, BB King all have their own very unique styles. John Mayer has nothing close to that.

  • its a nice cover but NO ONE SOUNDS LIKE THE BIGGEST MUSICIAN EVER JIMI HENDRIX!!!

  • @Dbalx I don't think John had any intention to sound like Hendrix. :)

John's paying his tributes to him in a cover with his own twist to it - nothing wrong with that!

  • @kbui97 yeah i agree but the only thing i say was that noone ever can sound better like JIMI HENDRIX...i say it as a fun and i dont like to compare the two musicians..i just say that the music level of jimi in guitar and in music generally cant be touch!!!!!! ;)

  • Jimi's was obviously better, but this one is still enjoyable.

  • 3 minutes of great guitar playing ruined by 2 minutes of talking.

  • @TheLewiswright1995 It's called 'blues'.

  • Even if i would dislike John (which i dont ofc) i would still think hes great for preserving what i call music. It's rare these days and cause of that i want to remind everyone that John's music is in the better 10% compared to the average music these days. Dont forget to listen to steve jordan and pino too since they are amazing musicians as well. And for the record, i think john deserves to be in the "top100 guitarists of all time" list, if not now, then later on.

  • Great playing, but what the fuck is he talking about in the middle? Seriously. I love John Mayer but he is SO full of bullshit.

  • everyone hating is jealous, wishing they could have his ear and taste in melody and music structure. Take a closer look at his music.

  • "Everyday I Have the Blues" nine22dreamer

  • If you have to hate on John Mayer your just an idiot , the dude can play his ass off, yeah he makes lame pop music just to pay the bills though, lol haha we all see here what John Mayer is about

  • anyone know what the second song he does after the jimi tune?

  • Dear John Mayer,

    Drop the pop shit.

    Thank you,

    We all.

  • @retardfreak

Sell whatever instrument u try to play, take a 12 gauge shoot gun, put it under chin and have Mayer pull both triggers at the time. Trust me it won't hurt because your brain dead anyway pop fag.

  • Way to fag it up u fag! I will say that he does a really good, and I mean an excellent job at being a fag. Good job fag boy! U just won the fag of the year award fag..... Just saying.

  • @rich051065 what are you 12?

anyway, this is a great spin on the original. the solos are very tastily put together in spirit of jimi.

  • @rich051065 Immature person is immature.

  • Comment removed

  • For me both versions badass

  • If it wasn't for Jimi there wouldn't even be a cover. Jimi wrote the song, but i am sure he would like this cover.

  • FOR ME JIMI IS BETTER BECAUSE HE WROTE THIS SONG!

  • Is he seriously micing his drums with SM58's? Lol

  • Guys... Chill out about the speech. I agree, it was kinda corny but it pleased the teenage girls in the audience and i was just ignoring what he said and listened to the groove in the background! It was nice!

  • @Cbluesrocker man, my english is kindda sux; can you write here everything he says on the speech? I can understand a little but I wan't to understand all of it; could you do this for me?

  • @ThZbR im not gonna write everything, but the main point is he want to finds love, real love :p

  • @loekiedepo I get the main point. I just wanna know what he says. I know what he means but there is some words I can't understand. :)

  • stop blabering john play your guitar, your already genius

  • Would have loved to see them play this song together, to blend the sound..

  • John Mayer is a legend. That is all.

  • happy birthday jimi!!

  • You can't play better than him so please SHUT THE FUCK up.. And go play some Jonas Brothers songs.

  • what a rhythm section!

  • WHY DONT HE SHUT UP AND JUST PLAY?

    GET A PSYCHOLOGIST, MAYER!

  • Comment removed

  • I see many insecure people hating mayer because they can't accept someone is so self confidence, and it is pain in their shy asses.

  • @RightBrainsMusic yess, john mayer is very self confidence.........?

  • jimi never had the opportunity to play this song live...mayer does this song justice

  • Don't be an old fool he is introducing great music to a new generation.

  • the best song ever :o OMG

  • i kinda wish he had made his speech before or after the song. i get the meaning of it being said in the middle...but i would REALLLY like this song if it was just a sick solo straight through. still love it though

  • I wish I was there fml :(

  • i've never really given john a chance but holy fucking cow,, this guy is totally awesome, and totally blows this song up,,, he really does jimi justice and thats a task few can do... WOW just wow this hendrix fan is blowed away and now a john m fan.

  • He may be a dick, but damn... That man can sing...

  • @klimpurt the Drummer is Steve Jordan. and he is the fucking shit, just like John and Pal

  • John Mayer would be a great talent if he stopped trying to hard to chase poon. Dude, the poon is following you, just rock out and stop trying hard for poon. I enjoyed this version of Bold as Love but it's not quite as good as Steve Webb's as far as covers go.

  • wha does he say at 3:33? I can't get it!

  • @mscv270391 what bit? "I've tried every approach to living..."

  • What's the name of the drummer? He plays really well!

  • i know everyone is debating with john mayer and hendrix and to be honest i dont see the point both are legends, but Steve Jordan is a freaking king on the drums!

  • It pains me so much that this crooner's version is viewed more than the original.

  • lol the ending is so cool

  • Why are you people arguing about who's better? Just enjoy how awesome the music is. And I doubt anyone of you can play like Mayer. So you can't talk.

  • right guys, you can't beat the original, it's a masterpiece. not saying that theres anything wrong with john mayer's version, but you cant beat Hendrix's version. Mayers is good though

  • SRV gives the same speech at Montreux, and the solo is very similar.

  • awesome

  • amazing

  • john mayer come back with the trio.....pleaaaaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!

  • John Mayer doesn't get enough credit.... but at the same time I'm so gracious he's not mainstream. I get chills everytime I listen to this song by either Hendrix or Mayer I can't get enough of it... This is what music is all about

  • i love the bassist, i fuckin' love him

  • /watch?v=8rq570DDNCA

  • guys. stfu. doesn't matter who is better. stop being so critical. enjoy.

  • @angadsharma Hey Jimi is the best, heh.

  • Epoustouflant.

  • WOW

  • what a tone!

  • nice carpet

  • not even close

  • Even Hendrix would agree this is better :D

  • @AmusedSiK Not really. You can never quite top the original. Don't get me wrong, I really dig this version, but the legends such as Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan will always be a step above Mayer. Not knockin him or anything mind you. This is the closest anybody has gotten to perfecting a Hendrix cover since SRV.

  • @digitalph33rfan9

thats an absurd opinion. you cant perfect anything in music. there is always room for something to be improved on. now i'm not saying mayer is better than stevie or jimi but their not automatically better because they came first. If that were the case hendrix couldnt touch albert king, or muddy waters or robert johnson. John's vocal and guitar tones are better than hendrix's and srv's both. who the best player is, is not for us to decide.

  • @chillguitardude10 I said for the covers. My original comment was towards the people saying that this was better than the original. On to the further content, my reasoning for saying that Hendrix and Vaughan will always be a step above is because they're fucking LEGENDS. I never said they were better, but they brought something to the table that nobody else had done, as did King and Waters as you said. FACT. Mayer is amazing, but he's not the innovator that they were.

  • @digitalph33rfan9

I dont know how SRV was an innovator. He just played loud and fast, and fucking beautifully. But Jimi had already done that. I guess you could say him infusing that into texas blues was original but if you go that route then mayer is absolutely an innovator. Nobody has ever brought blues into popular music, mayer has 14 year old girls listening to blues music and enjoying it. He will be a legend thirty or forty years from now.

  • @chillguitardude10

dude, you looked at your rock history lately? The Rolling Stones brought blues into popular, mainstream music back in the 60s. I'm pretty sure that Eric Clapton would also disagree with that claim as well. The blues has bled into pop in tons of places, especially in rock. Mayer's actually really good, and I appreciate his chops. However, I really wish he'd stay more with the blues and less on some of his other tripe.

  • @TheOhyeahproductions

I'm talking about straight blues. most people would say the stones played rock n' roll. and despite clapton absolutly being a blues player through and through his most "popular" stuff is more along the lines of classic rock. and thats not to say it wasnt influenced by blues. but i wouldnt call layla blues, i'd say its classic rock with blues influenced guitar playing. I'll rephrase my statement, mayer is the first to introduce blues to modern popular music.

  • @chillguitardude10

The only thing that disappoints me is the tripe that he records. Comparing the Continuum version to this live version, Mayer actually amazed me when I heard this version. If he'd play more like this, I'd buy his albums. Sadly though, the blues will never sell records like pop will. I started respecting Mayer with this stuff.

  • @TheOhyeahproductions Its True, But i dont care how he record his albums, i like his way to play and his way to write songs

  • @chillguitardude10 No argument there. Although I honestly really only like John with the trio. I've never been a huge fan of his other stuff. Just my opinion. I like Gravity and songs like that, but not so much when he goes the route of Say What You Need to Say.

  • Mayer has got the "feeling" of Hendrix, but not the "cool", or the virtuosity. Anyway pretty good for a pop star. By the fucking way, you talk too much.

  • Does anyone know what pickups he uses on this guitar?

  • @NarrowHomerJay i think that is a vintage strat from the 60s so it probably still has the original pickups

  • 143 people need to have their clicking finger cut off with a broken guitar string... haters

  • He nailed the SVR swagger & tone at 6:53 ... gotta believe he's a fan. You know that somewhere in Texas the strings on a certain old Strat started ringing, just a little....

  • If he was just some guy in his room posting Hendrix covers on youtube, I guarantee everybody would be saying "why isn't he famous?" so those who don't like him doing Jimi Hendrix songs because of his pop stuff don't know good these covers are

  • oh jimi hendrix......

  • @simon14805 Not sure if that's a song list & not lyrics at his feet maybe?I don't listen to Mayer but came across this & he plays the song damn well. This fricking song ain't easy.Sometimes you have to look down at the guitar neck.He usually has that pained face w/closed eyes anyway. The only thing kind of pathetic is so many people copy Hendrix or steal so much from him and get credit. With that said, this is a good cover. John Lennon said, 'A good song IS a good song' when asked about songs.
