  • This is a contradiction ~ '' He is rightly called the fifth Beatle " ~~ " ...Pete Best who was 'the Beatles' original drummer is in India. " Richard Starkey is the Fifth Beatle !!!!

Pete was fired because he said ' No' to Brian Epstein !

  • @ukraininoak ....I heard about Epstein's advances towards poor Pete. Pete rejected Brian's advances.....Lennnon didn't. Either way, it's all history now....Pete Best's story is the saddest story in rock n roll.

  • @Fooblestheclown

Ya, Ringo got ' lucky' !

  • @Fooblestheclown

    Agreed !

  • The 5th Beatle was Al Capp.

  • @Fooblestheclown

    Richard Starkey was !

  • @ukraininoak richard starkey is ringo ya mole

  • When he talks it sounds like walking though the mud with gumboots lol. I do like this guy. His story is a great lesson on how to put huge regret behind and succeed. Thanks Pete.

  • ALL THINGS MUST PASS YOU DUMB ASS!! MOVE THE F!@# ON!!!

  • I thought William Campbell was 5th?

  • The 5th Beatle was Tom Snyder

  • its great they paid him for his hard work and his contribution to the music,,he seems such a nice guy...respect to you mr best x

  • aww feel bad for him :/ money and fame are huge bitches

  • 5th Beatle- Brian Epstein! He contributed HEAVILY to the Beatles' success

  • The 5th Beatle? Stu Sutcliffe? Mal Evens? Pete Best?

  • If in fact Pete made 4 million pounds off the release of the Beatle's material, then I'm happy for him. However, it's an admission of guilt of what the others did to him in the past.

    Age + Guilt = Justice

    Enjoy retirement Pete!

  • @York19741 - What the other did to him? He is still living off his short association with John, Paul and George. What the hell do the owe him? They are the reason the Beatles are famous not him.

Listen to him here. Do you think anyone would give a damn about him, his music or a film of his life story if it was not for the other Beatles who were the ones with the talent to make it to the top.

He wasn't good enough and so the talented ones fires him and got someone better - no mystery.

  • well, alls well that ends well, george paul and ringo did right by pete after all,he might have been the luckiest of them all/no brain hemmourage(stu},no shooting{john},no stabbing{george},no fucking up your life by drinking like a fish{ringo},no marrige to a golddigging bitch{un-named}.he had a normal life, ups and downs, struggels and PRIVACY,now he's retired, LOADED and playing rock and roll, who could ask for more?

  • I met Pete Best in Bradford in 1996 with Cynthia Lennon too. He sounded just like Ringo and told me about his time in Hamburg - he was very quiet and unassuming. Its a real shame that someone had to lose out but I reckon they thoutth Ringo was a safer bet and was very experienced. Then George Martin didnt like Ringo and used session drummer Andy white to cut Love Me Do. At least Pete got some cash from anthology - good luck to him.

  • Pete IS - quite rightly - the fifth Beatle. Apart from the original Fab Four, the only 2 other real Beatles members were Pete and Stuart so therefore Pete is truly the fifth Beatle.

He is a true legend. If we had never heard the famous version of 'Love Me Do' then Pete's version would have gone unquestioned.

All the best Pete if you are reading!

  • @gazartu I totaly agrre with that! Pete was the Beat in Beatles!

  • Pete wont bore people with the details, but mentions all of them..

What a guy, how much Beatles History in the public domain was actually written by Pete Best as fact.

Plenty of groups had a change of line up but only Pete has spent decades talking about it and making up his own version of events.

The guy is clearly just promoting another book or album about the Beatles and he sounds like he has a budgie in his mouth

  • The musicial contribution by Sir George Martin to The Beatles' music is simply incredible. Even now I think Martin is way underrated as far as his contributions to the band, and their musical sounds. I can think of no one more deserving of the title 5th Beatle than Martin. Without him, I really don't think the band that we know as The Beatles today would be been the same.

  • @boomer54 deads right.without martin it was simply to crude for mass appeal

  • I don't think Ringo had much of an edge over Pete as far as drummers go. Don't forget, session drummer Andy White played on Love Me Do and Please Please Me, not Ringo. Pete was always a bit glum and quiet by all accounts and didn't fit the image that Epstein wanted the Beatles to project. Ringo was a bit more forthcoming. He played in exactly the style the Beatles wanted and in later years Paul MaCartney commented that he wasthe best backbeat in the business

  • @Snedger Well said. Perhaps Ringo's slight edge over Best was his proficient time keeping and rudimentary skills. George Martin wouldn't have it any other way. The Beatles' music, at least in the early days wasn't exactly difficult to play on a rhythmic level. lol

  • Pete sounds smart ringo was fucking ugly and wasnt any better at playing the drums then him.

  • this is all destiny really. It was meant to be Ringo ...and all of them. Being at the right time, right place, this is a supernatural story. And I think all of them needed and none of them could have been replaced. Only poor Pete Best, I would have killed myself.

  • I am reading "Can't Buy Me Love" (2007) by Jonathan Gould. In it, Gould states that, when George Martin met the Beatles in June 1962, Martin did not think that any of them were that good but thought that Pete's drumming was particularly "weak." Brian Epstein was assigned the job of firing Pete (see pages 122-124; cf. page 610 where Gould is citing a 1979 book by George Martin entitled "All You Need Is Ears" as his resource).

  • @Rich2864 I just want to add that I saw Pete perform (in a group drumming with his son) about 2002 or 2003 and then stuck around afterwards to talk with him. My impression was that Pete did not sound good on that particular night. However, Pete is a really nice guy. I just hope his smoking (unfiltered, as I recall) does not catch up with him. But he comes off as a great guy. I wish him joy, peace, and happiness.

  • Gene Hackman was signed to play the part of Mike Brady by the producers of The Brady Bunch. The network wanted someone more recognizable.

Hackman got the boot and Robert Reed got the role.

Hackman probably wouldn't have had the career that he did if he hadn't been replaced by Reed. He could have been typecast as MIke Brady the way that Reed was when the series ended.

  • OMFG Are you people really so ignorant????? The 5th Beatle? NO PETE BEST WAS THE REPLACED BEATLE the 5th Beatle was Stu! it was when they had 5 then when Ringo replaced Pete there was no additional Beatle. Pete Best should thank his God that he was who he was and he can cash in on the popularity of a band that he was associated with early in his life.

  • @BSS14285 Actually no, John, Paul, George and Stu were in the Beatles before best, so they were the four beatles and then best joint as the fifth beatle!

  • Poor best...ended up in India...

  • Seems like a really lovely guy... but it was meant tobe Ringo...

  • The Anthology release got him some much needed money that he could retire on and live well off of in his remaining years as a consolation prize and I think the itunes deal will see him make more royalties.

  • This thing ppl here keep going on about Ringo Vs Pete..., who's better....n all that nonsense. The other Beatles had made their minds up to sack Pete long before they actually did it AND guess what? Ringo was NOT the first drummer they asked to join them. They spoke to 3 OTHER drummers before Ringo BUT due to circumstance or choice the others either couldn't do it or were NOT interested in joining The Beatles. Does this mean that Ringo was "bottom of the barrel last choice?'"....who knows?

  • The Beatles was 7 People: John Lennon, Palu Mccartney, George Harrison, Pet Best, Ringo Starr, Brian Epstein and George Martin... A big Combo.

  • I would have to say the Beatles of the 1960-1962 were alot more intresting in my opinion I like to collect Beatles Bootlegs I have the Complete 1957 to 1962 Collection via a number of Diffrent albums

  • @Wehategod Yes but that is because we have been over saturated with there most popular stuff, that people are looking for lesser known tracks.

some of those were good, but would never have made them any money untill after they became famous.

Pete Best was very lucky that he was kicked out and they became famous, this allowed the fans to pick up on the early stuff and start buying it.

Best is a millionair to the tune of 3-4 million.

Not bad for playing in a band that never had a hit single

  • Pete seems to be a kind guy with lots of humility. Seems a little bit much that people would have an interest in making a film out of his life story. But if it helps pay for his family and retirement, and someone can actually make money off it, why not? Pete grew up a working class person without a college education. And he almost made it very very big with some childhood friends who moved on without him. And he has no real bitterness. That's a sign of a person with a lot of character.

  • @Charleybones actually he made up to a estimated 4 million pounds off what the beatles realeast in 1995 the fact that they did that says it all they wanted to fix a mistake i believe after much research it was jeliuosy and he was shy and didnt bond with them he was the first one even before world fame that the woman would scream over and the other three were ignored til the release of the first album.if you were 3 guys who hired a drummer and he became more famous than the band maybe the anserw

  • @zdogy1 he made an estimated 4 million pounds FROM songs released by the Beatles ... not off what the beatles RELEAST HAHAHA omfg your grammar stinks as does your spelling! you should use spell check releast isnt even a word = released and wtf is jeliuosy haha = jealousy THIS IS YOUR anserw haha

  • @Charleybones I agree...fair play to him for getting on with his life. It cant be easy.....

  • @Charleybones Petes story could be fantastic if done well ....dont know how you could say that ...he's had lots of problems LOTS .....but i hope he now considers himself legit because of the anthology recordings -nice to see the recognition finally. GOOD ON YA PETE !

  • Pete got a raw deal they were cowards pete had more fans they were jealous of his looks he was a good drummer certainly as good as ringo back then

  • @andyman0231 john lennon was the only beatle to say they were cowards,at least john had the ball to say something, not like the money grabbing Mccharley

We love you pete, and you never left your liverpool roots

  • @surferjay1 John also said "as soon as we could find a good drummer we would have booted him out"

Lennon said lots of things just for something to say, you can find many lennon quotes and most are contradictory.

If John was the leader of the band then it would have been his choice would it not?

McCartney was the most driven and kept them tight and wanted things perfect, without Paul the we would not even be talking about the bealtes, they would not have made it as a group.

    Pete got his cash

  • It's more correctly to say he was the ex-four/fifth beatles.

He always says he quit The Beatles, rather that the real reason was that he was fired.

I feel sorry for him, but Ringo had to be the real fourth beatle.

  • I disagree. The honour of being the 5th Beatle definitely HAS to go to Sir George Martin

  • @DomW63 I would love to meet George, he is The Greatest!!!

In all honesty, anyone would give their left nut to have jammed with the Beatles just once. Pete played countless hours with them, and finally got his work with them re-released. MAybe he missed out, got screwed over, but he lucked out a hell of a lot more than most of us. I love Pete.

  • @DomW63 i totally agree with that, i think without george martin's production and guidance the beatles would have been much different, not worse, but different.

  • @DomW63 Certainly not, that honor (the 5th beatle) belong to Brian Epstein. He's the one who belived in them and invested his money in them (and lost a lot of money in them in the early days) when no one else would touch them at all!

  • @TomTresh3 That's only because he was in love with John, not much merit in that

  • @butterf1yz No it wasn't. It was because he believed in their music. Epstien has plenty of merit, and was much more than just a producer doing a job without risk! His friends, family and business collegues all told him drop the beatles, but he believed in their talent.

  • @butterf1yz Yea and he also wanted to sleep with pete best, pretty much a pervert who was more interested sexually than musically.

Once they were making money, brian tried to scam them into taking wages of 50 quid a week, this was a 12month contract he tried to get them to sign in early 1963.

Brian got an equal cut, and took all his expenses out of the other 4s share before giving it to them.

Brian expenses were gold watches, lighters, posh hotels, taxis, etc etc

  • @DomW63 "If anyone was the 5th beatle it was Brian Epstein" - George Martin

  • @FabFM i think paul said that actually, but george martin repeated it

hard to remember when you watch 8 hours of beatles anthology lol

  • @Nelson676 It was George that said it first (on the anthology) Paul said it in an interview a few years later.

  • @DomW63 I disagree. The 5th Beatle is Billy Preston. GM did not play.

  • @DomW63

I have a book that lists all the possible 5th Beatles. I think the ones who deserve the title most are George Martin AND Brian Epstein. But all the others had their role, all the others were important, and without only one of them, it wouldn't be the same. There's Pete Best, Stuart Sutcliffe, Mal Evans, Derek Taylor, etc.

  • @DomW63 Sir George Martin was a record producer. He never played with The Beatles. As the fifth Beatle, we can consider Stuart Sutcliffe, Pete Best, Jimmy Nicol, Yoko Ono, Billy Preston, Eric Clapton. Otherwise among those who have not played with The Beatles, there are also Brian Epstein (manager), Neil Aspinall (road manager and assistant), Derek Taylor (press officer), Phil Spector (record producer), Malcolm Evans (roadie - handyman). But never mind! At the end The Beatles are only 4! Fab 4!

  • @DomW63 no doubt about it

  • God bless you Pete.

  • No Ringo no Beatles

  • @yutuberis yes ringo , paul, geroge and jhon or nothing

  • @habbodaxter you mispelled george and john in the same senteced, lear to spell their names and then we can call you a fan kid.

  • @tonyohnoyoudidnt and you spelled sentence and learn wrong in the same sentence... not sure it really matters how well a person can spell when they have common interests in something... such as the Beatles, besides this is not some English exam or newspaper article... it is you tube for Pete's sake... no pun intended.

  • @incmob and therefore It is two different things to mispell two words when you are touch typing, but to mispell the names of who you call yourself a fan of, that's my point.

  • Personally, I think Ringo had a look, that the Beatles needed, somehow I don't see Pete Best with them...too straight looking for a drummer.

  • Pete Best didn't do so badly in life. Unlike John & George, he's still alive. And unlike a host of others, he's never had to endure the fast pace drug culture of the Rock N Roll world. He's still alive & well & looks like a handsome Ron Jeremy. Had he met Yoko prior to getting fired, he would have remained the leader of the band. It would have been Pete & Yoko. Together, they would have made The Beatles a truly great Rock N Roll band.

  • He looks like Ron Jeremy.

  • @AdamBlivingston Ummmm. . . no he does Not! LOL.

  • The most betrayed musician of all-time!!

  • (Pete is better! Pete forever, Ringo never!).

  • @MAGALTMALDITABASURA ur stupid man. ringo was a beatle and he wasnt he left for a reason. it wasnt his destiny to be with them. ringo was better and is a natural beatle

  • @thebeatlesliveon123 sucks ringo and you!!!

  • I think the Pete Best Story if done right will be a great movie and how they handle the crisis of how he handled the Beatles fame....I'm looking forward to it....let Oliver Stone handle it...because of the conspiracy theory issues haha
