My dog (RIP) used to smile too. I would come home & open the gate & he'd get so excited he would show his teeth the whole time he was greeting me. He'd do it on commad too.

Look at it's ears, eyes and stance. All dead giveaways that the animal is imitating it's owner.

My girlfriends dog does the same thing, especially when he is happy/running around when someone comes over. Its very funny to see, because i've lived with dogs all my life and never seen this behavior.

for those of you who don't think that dogs can smile or that this particular one isn't, it is and yes they can. and yeah it at first it can seem a little creepy but once your greeted every morning and when you come home you do begin to se subtle differences in aggressive barring of teeth vs friendly. I got a border collie basset hound mix that smiles all the time.

haha i knew a puitbull that smiled when it saw people and it was wagging its tail, and sooo sweet and loved to snuggle.She was all white, but unfortunately the SPCA put her down because she wasnt "fit" for adoption because she "looked" like she was growling.
