I remember actually "making" a Mario hack like this in '96 or so. Actually, I took an existing Zelda Mario hack (maybe this one!) and ripped off some of the sprites, modified them to make the movement look less retarded, and grabbed enemy sprites from TLoZ that were more appropriate. For example, mine no longer had Piranha Plants. I think my "Super Bud Bros." and "Super Bubba Bros." were more successful though, and you can still find them online.
