Getting rid of this competition has just devalued the Uefa Cup so that no one really gives a toss about it except mid table teams from the stronger leagues and teams from leagues like russia/ukraine etc who don't have a realistic chance in the C.L. No, the UEFA Cup existed at the same time as the CWC. For example in 1994, there was the Champions League (Milan won), CWC (Arsenal) and UEFA Cup (Inter over two legs as it was then). The Cup Winners Cup was scrapped in 1999 because more teams were allowed into the Champions League and cup winners were allowed into the UEFA Cup.

I'd love the days of 3 competitions to return but they won't because UEFA are making too much money from the way it is now.
