I know the LOTr's trilogy had cgi an all but i wish they dont do what AVATAR did you know basically everything wad done by a computer where lord of the rings felt real
i just pray to god that the beginning of the trailer starts: a still river and a barrel falling out of the trees and saying "this december" as it hits the water..... awesome
christopher lee, im sure he could deliver a sound performance in which wont recognize him (like john rhys-davies as treebeard, didnt had an idea that that was him until i was told that)

I have no intention to see this movie.. But I died on the floor laughing when I heard "Arnold as the voice of smaug or smaug sounding Asexual!" - How about you actually do a movie where dragons are the main characters.. fuck you hollywood.
I think they should go with someone relatively unknown or someone who can twist their voice enough so you dont recognize them. Liam Neeson NO. He was the lion in the Narnia movies and I recognized him immediately and that kind messed up the believability of the lion.
I like that he said everyone pretty much knows where the split will take place. My brother and I have been discussing this for a few weeks now. I think it has to be after the defeat of Smaug and destruction of Lake Town. The second film would then be around the build up to the Battle of Five Armies. I also can't help but think where the second film will end. The trilogy left out the Scouring of the Shire, I hope the Hobbit will at least show the auction.
Smaug has been my biggest worry since I first head they were making the film. There have been many films recently that feature dragons and every time I see an advertisement for one I think "that's more pressure on WETA to make Smaug distinct". However, the more I learn about del Torro and his passion for the story, my fears have been mostly satiated.
Wow, that's a great idea. I never considered him until now. I think if the voice was that of a very well known person it could distract attention from Smaug himself, thus cheapening his impact.
I agree. I've been watching numerous interviews of him for the last few hours here on youtube and he is truely, in my humble opinion, an inspiration; not only as a film maker but a human as well.
As long as Smaug isn't Sean Connery or Liam Neeson or other famous/obvious choice, I'll be happy. A John Malkovich or Willem Dafoe type would be perfect, they've got the intelligence, cunning and menace down pat, although their voices would have to be changed. My initial want was Ron Perlman since Del Toro most likely will have him in the film somewhere, but he would be a better Beorn or Goblin-King.
looking forward to Smaug...i don't think they had such an exciting concept to design even in LOTR...as far as the voice goes Liam Neeson seems a good suggestion but i'd imagine it'll go to an unknown voice artist
i know there were a few rumblings about James McAvoy as Bilbo. i saw him in LKoS and Atonement he was superb and at 5'7 is the right height. id also love to see Paddy Considine as Bard but it could be anyone from Christian Bale to Richard Armitage
I thought of Mr. Irons as well and he'd be an excellent choice. When I think of Smaug, I naturally think of Richard Boone's booming voice from the RB Hobbit production from 30 years ago. However, I think they'd be looking for more of an English voice or perhaps an exotic type voice for the role, not an American accent.
My, how would James Earl Jones sound as Smaug though?! How about Michael Clark Duncan? Both killer voices. Perhaps someone w/a deep Asian type voice? George Takei or Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa? As for Liam Neeson, love him as an actor and he as a great voice, but wouldn't that be a little overkill? He's the voice of Aslan in the Narnia films (of course James Earl Jones is the voice of Darth Vader).
I'm very mixed about hearing a dragon speak with a human voice. I think Connery ruined it in Dragonheart. Whoever's voice they use should be heavily modulated to sound very cunning and serpentine, with only a splinter of humanity to it.
Del Toro + Jackson? .... Man, this is going to be awesome....

As Bard, here are some recommendations.
1. Clive Owen.
2 Gerard Butler.
3. Eric Bana.

Actually... Clancy "The Kurgan" Brown would be perfect for Smaug! He's got the voice and the qualities, plus he has experience in voice acting.

He also does the voice of Mister Krabs. I lie that idea. He's perfect for the role.
