@DominicRiv swing is only part of the equation. all of the people on tour can hit the ball. playing within yourself and maintaining composure and focus is another animal. they both have very nice and powerful swings.

@tallmandub LOL dude are you stalking me, take a chill pill. I don't hate her in the slightest, there is a lot of hype about her which she doesn't live up to. Simple as that. It seems you have some serious problems.
And what has spelling Joseph got to do with anything? My name is Joseph dummy :) Any other dummy remarks?
honestly i think wie's swing is better for someone to try to emulate. she does two very basic things very well that most golfers need to understand. 1. staying behind the ball and 2. finishing balanced on the left side.
How can I hit the ball just like her. Maybe if I wear mini skirt ha? Is that what all of you critics think. How well did you guys did at the age of 21. So get a life and shut your faces.
Actually it's a bit more complicated than that. Els has never tabbed Leadbetter as his sole instructor in the way a guy like Price or Faldo did, and Wie's experience with Leadbetter has been fairly problematic, although it's debatable how much of that should be blamed on Lead. I'm always amazed at the people who post comments that are hypercritical of Leadbetter when the guy had four of the top seven players in the world coming to him at one time...
...but it _is_ true that some players do way better with him than others do. I wonder how much of that has to do with the fact that he probably has an elevated percentage of players 1) who think going super-mechanical is going to help them (based on his reputation as a mechanist, which I think isn't really deserved), and are usually wrong; and/or 2) who are really in bad shape and ready to try anything, inclined to want to break everything down to the molecular level, etc.
Anyhow, what you're saying is basically true: He really has been at least partially responsible for some great swings and for some great ballstriking. The 12-handicappers who come onto forums and parrot the criticism they've heard about him typically have no clue what they're talking about.
Watching women play golf or any sport is like watching paint dry, very boring...! Letting these bimbos try to make the men's tour is total B.S. and if they keep that B.S. up, it's going to ruin both tours. If the men decide to play the women tour especially. I'm waiting for the day when some bimbo tries to force her way into a UFC spot...Ha! Ha! Ha! Even the biggest lesbian on the women's golf tour isn't that dumb...!
@totruful seriously mate, thats a bit daft. It's only really been acceptable for women to be do sport for a century or so, therefore womens sport has not had the time to develop as mens has. Especially with dinosaur attitudes like yours around. What is the matter with women entering open competitions, especially if they have a physical disadvantage? Maybe its the risk that girls would beat some of the men that scares you?
Having a beautiful swing is 1 thing, having a swing that holds up under pressure is another. How many pros can truly say their swings stay loose & easy when they have the trophy in sight?
@VanillaRice24, that's deceptive. That par 5 played significantly downhill off the tee, which biases the situation. I hit a drive 356 on a par 5 downhill in Fla. back when my normal drive was only about 265 (at best). Her average right now on the LPGA Tour is 272.8, very good for a woman but not at all far for a man (not even close). Before people go off half-cocked and draw conclusions based on one shot, they should check the stats. They tell the tale, for the most part. Take it easy.
@OutlanderWarrior , Maybe you should have a look at the stats for the PGA Tour as well, before you accuse people of going off half-cocked. The average driving distance for the men is 281.7 yards, so that puts her less than 10 yards behind the guys on average. To call hitting it within 10 yards 'not even close' seems a bit harsh to me..
For the record, Ernie averages 289.0, about 16 yards further than Michelle. Still 2 great swings though!
@ozzygolfer, I don't think I ever responded to your comment. The difference, I think, is that the men are more likely to sometimes hit fairway woods on the measuring holes, whereas the women are using driver a much higher percentage of the time. I'm an experienced golfer, and if you think that Els is only 16 yards longer than Wie, I have some swampland in Florida to sell you.
Ernie had the potential and the swing to be the best ever, yes, even better than the Golden Bear.
Trouble was his head. When Tiger came from nine down in the last round to beat him in Asia, something snapped, and he was never the same again. He didn´t have the mental strength to be the best. That was his downfall.
that's what seperates Tiger, his mental toughness and focus. there are guys out on tour that have just as much ability as Tiger but they're simply not mentally tough....Sergio, Ernie and so on.
Ernie actually copied Michelle Wie. It's true. You can read about it. There was a time machine built by the Russians back in the '70's that fell into the hands of the South Africans. Ernie's father was working on a top secret government project to send someone into the future to save the President and little Ernie accidentally got inside the machine. The rest is history.
seems footjoy could make a living out of golf. i mean SHE is like 9- 10 stone max and outhits most men. she has more flexibility at the end of her drive ,it is more parallel than ernies at the top of the swing and she hits it just as far. maybe because she is 19 - a girl- less muscle feel-and confused. but i bet she fucking whoops any of you so called muppets who cast a "expert opinion"
I do make a living out of golf. everything you said has absoultly nothing to do with a good golf swing. What does more flexibility at the end of her drive mean? What does the shaft being parallel have to do with anything? She does not hit it as far as ernie unless she was on an airport runway. You would ruin someones effort to improve their golf swing if you used her as a model.
what? she does not outdrive most men. wtf are you talking about. ernie averages a full twnenty yards farther on his drives than she does. yeah, she may occasionally hit a 300 yard drive, 100 feet downhill with a 15 mph headwind. but on the fly, she might hit it 240.
@EverythingEvil007, not in this life, buddy. Just check the driving stats on the LPGA Tour; she's nowhere close to 300. As Els once said, being generous, "She MIGHT roll it out there 290."
I would love to hear what makes her swing gorgeous, it is absoultly horrible, and you can thank Ledbetter, he does this to all his students, pause at 24 seconds and look at her, bad, bad, bad. The only good thing in her swing is the standing up with the hips at impact. It is pure luck and perfect timing for her to hit the ball where she wants it to go
Wie's swing is just gorgeous, which is the point of the video. Best female swing ever. Hope she get's past the media circus and reaches her potential. Bet she will.
I love Wie, she does have a perfect swing. I was talking about her on the golf course the other day when a guy said "Wie?" she hasn't done anything, never won a major her dad ruined her blah blah blah... I replied "um.. she's 19" Girl is going to be one of the best ever no doubt about it.
Great talent .But i think her father and Ledbetter are the reason she has struggled.Instead of playing so many tournaments on the mens tour and learning how to miss cuts. She should have been playing junior golf with girls her age.Pounding them and learning how to win.
Agreed. She's just ingrained how to fail, and Lead's reputation it seems to me would be nothing wihout Faldo, he confuses more players than he helps these days (Seve, Rose, Tryon...).
Well said. Same thing (on a smaller scale) with Ty Tryon.....gets through q-school at 17....where is he now?....not understating his achievement, but can you imagine the "deer in the headlights" feeling that kid must have had the first full field event when he's on the range next to the likes of Tiger, Ernie, Phil, Vijay, etc? Too young, too early.
She was such a good player, her dad and Nike ruined her! Man if she was lucky, she would have met me and left her dad. I'd be her coach while banging her at night, making her happy. So sad her life is ruined now.
her swing was much better before she went to david leadbetter. when she worked gary gilcrist, like during this video, her swing had much better tempo.
Ernie Els' swing is deceptively slow. He accelerates JUST before impact, then slows down very quickly after that. Michelle Wie's swing is faster AFTER impact, but that does not do any good. This means Els has a much more efficient swing. Watch their downswing starting at 0:32 you'll see Ernie is much faster at impact.
I am only saying Els has a more efficient swing, not that hers is inefficient. She can't hit 348 yds normally. Not even Tiger can. I'd be surprised that she can hit longer than 280 yds no wind and no downhill.
that was when she had a good swing. now with this new snappy little swing david ledbetter changed her to, ya she gets distance but it is inefficient because its not consistent. as in, she may hit a 348 long drive, but most of the time its gonna be in the rough, trees, etc. so tell me this, would u sacrifice accuracy for distance?
I'm sorry mate, but you got that one wrong. The club head speed is at the highest point just after the hitting the ball, which means the club head actually accelerate through.
Why is she overrated? She can drive the ball 300+ yards and has been in contention in a few LPGA events this year. She's barely 18 and it's not like she's been a pro for 10 years and hasn't won a tournament.
This video proves that a good swing is only part of being a great golfer. They have similar swings, but Ernie Els is one of the greatest golfers alive. Michelle Wie cannot even make a cut in PGA tour events that Ernie enters with the intention of winning. The key to great golf is consistency and the ability to perform when it means the most (Qualities Tiger Woods has in spades).
@u2b9876 i agree, but consider that this was 2 yrs ago and she used to be SO different. back then it was understandable to say she wasn't going anywhere. tied up by her parents and sour attitude, me seeing her potential going down the drain sucked. last season she matured incredibly. she's attending college, acting so much more classy and open to her peers. now with 2 wins, she proved her critics wrong by completely turning around! you can't call him a douche for seeing what everyone saw then.
@u2b9876 don't judge him, he made a sensible prediction from 2 years ago. i've been a fan like you because of her talent and great potential, but it sucked to see her throw it away. since last year, she has incredibly matured and found herself on the lpga. she's not parentally controlled anymore and is doing it on her own- she's attending college and learning from her sour behavior in the past. i guess she proved critics like this guy, but only by completely turning around her career!
@schp16 yeah she's much wiser now than before, so i think the few pag runs aren't happening again. now she has 2 tour wins on the lpga- not too shabby. great swing and great attitude that she has gained from last season and with her first win.
@schp16 +10000, with all you said i would add(as being an athlete, you know how the mental part is a huge factor) the mental part of any game is main part of anything: swing, throw, pitch, or shot......if you can't consistently put it in the same place and block out the good and bad times and just think of the next shot you'll never be GREAT!
Some of the positions in their swings are similar, but overall I think they're pretty distinct unique swings, especially Ernie's. His swing is predicated almost entirely on unbelievable flexibility, which allows for a massive shoulder turn with little hip rotation, as well as incredible distance between the club and his body throughout the swing. I really just can't even imagine the kind of flexibility Ernie Els has, it is truly unbelievable.
I noticed one huge difference between the two players....Mr.Els actually had a gallery around him.I think the birds in those trees and that very clever camera were the only witnesses to Michele Wie.BooHoo...
the reason to why michelle wie can hit the ball as far as she does is mainly because of the lateral movement. It allows her to power up and then uncoil her hips in a rotation that creates the power that the arms translate to the ball. Its the most classical way of getting power to explode at the ball with your hips and not your arms and shoulders. If you would look at Tiger's swing his left shoulder is over his right foot which gives him the immense power of the tee.
well I think her swing is kinda of good...but in her backswing there is to much lateral moving to the right...so she gets her center off the middle and has to slide to left to get her centre over the ball again....
I shoot pretty low scores and I agree that there is nothing mechanically wrong with her move off the ball. If the people breaking down her swing would spend some time breaking down the idiot's swings who comment on these golf videos then they can talk about bad mechanics and they will be right
Mechanically there is nothing wrong with her so-called move off the ball. It simply -A- way to load the body to uncoil. Although there are people that over do it.
Boy, that is so right. Actually, the reason both of these players swing the club so well (at their best, anyway) is that pure swinging motion of the arms and club, and the hip turn, the "loading," all those things people like to talk about these days is a result. Anybody who stands straight up and swings their arms around their torso, or who throws a baseball as far as they can, can feel the same reaction in the body to support what you intend to do with the arms and hands.
I'm not impressed with 320 yards. It must be nice to be able to play every day with the best instruction money can buy with video swing vision to check all your positions. Most of us don't have the time to be that good. But we could be.
After watching Natalie, I agree totally that Natalie IS Anna Kournikova hands down!! But why are great woman golfers not so hot? Ochoa? Annika? Paula, just to name a few..

wang1433 3 years ago
Michelle can hits 348 yards with driver. I don't think her swing is inefficient.
westbugs 3 years ago
I am only saying Els has a more efficient swing, not that hers is inefficient. She can't hit 348 yds normally. Not even Tiger can. I'd be surprised that she can hit longer than 280 yds no wind and no downhill.
wang1433 3 years ago
that was when she had a good swing. now with this new snappy little swing david ledbetter changed her to, ya she gets distance but it is inefficient because its not consistent. as in, she may hit a 348 long drive, but most of the time its gonna be in the rough, trees, etc. so tell me this, would u sacrifice accuracy for distance?
RuneScapeForDummies 3 years ago
This is incorrect. Science proves that ALL swings slow down after impact because of the ball!!!
DeniedHealthCare 3 years ago
What does science say when one whiffs on the ball?
timlin0607 2 years ago 2
Probably tell one that they suck.
vaxxon1 2 years ago
I'm sorry mate, but you got that one wrong. The club head speed is at the highest point just after the hitting the ball, which means the club head actually accelerate through.
millkdy 2 years ago
yeah i'm pretty sure this is correct for someone that has a proper release but a regular amateur i doubt it

michelle wie is ridiculously overrated in addition to having a sense of entitlement
THOUSANDAlRE 3 years ago
Who's fault is that?
IaStwalkon 3 years ago
she is currently leading the lpga state farm classic
sheila1s 3 years ago
Why is she overrated? She can drive the ball 300+ yards and has been in contention in a few LPGA events this year. She's barely 18 and it's not like she's been a pro for 10 years and hasn't won a tournament.
timlin0607 3 years ago
This video proves that a good swing is only part of being a great golfer. They have similar swings, but Ernie Els is one of the greatest golfers alive. Michelle Wie cannot even make a cut in PGA tour events that Ernie enters with the intention of winning. The key to great golf is consistency and the ability to perform when it means the most (Qualities Tiger Woods has in spades).
schp16 3 years ago 8
she's a girl making a cut as a girl on the PGA is something that's never been done
mlehew52 3 years ago
wtf are you on about shes never made the cut on a pga event
Nickylizzle 3 years ago
I think Nick's right. She got exempted by PGA, but didn't make the cut herself.
wang1433 3 years ago
She just turned 19 years old, give her time?
whisperss 2 years ago
@schp16 Care to revise your statement? Michelle is now a two time LPGA winner. And how old is she? Thought so. Douche.
u2b9876 1 year ago
@u2b9876 i agree, but consider that this was 2 yrs ago and she used to be SO different. back then it was understandable to say she wasn't going anywhere. tied up by her parents and sour attitude, me seeing her potential going down the drain sucked. last season she matured incredibly. she's attending college, acting so much more classy and open to her peers. now with 2 wins, she proved her critics wrong by completely turning around! you can't call him a douche for seeing what everyone saw then.
MAlatinboy 1 year ago
@u2b9876 don't judge him, he made a sensible prediction from 2 years ago. i've been a fan like you because of her talent and great potential, but it sucked to see her throw it away. since last year, she has incredibly matured and found herself on the lpga. she's not parentally controlled anymore and is doing it on her own- she's attending college and learning from her sour behavior in the past. i guess she proved critics like this guy, but only by completely turning around her career!
MAlatinboy 1 year ago
@schp16 yeah she's much wiser now than before, so i think the few pag runs aren't happening again. now she has 2 tour wins on the lpga- not too shabby. great swing and great attitude that she has gained from last season and with her first win.
MAlatinboy 1 year ago
@schp16 +10000, with all you said i would add(as being an athlete, you know how the mental part is a huge factor) the mental part of any game is main part of anything: swing, throw, pitch, or shot......if you can't consistently put it in the same place and block out the good and bad times and just think of the next shot you'll never be GREAT!
ls1eater 1 year ago
Some of the positions in their swings are similar, but overall I think they're pretty distinct unique swings, especially Ernie's. His swing is predicated almost entirely on unbelievable flexibility, which allows for a massive shoulder turn with little hip rotation, as well as incredible distance between the club and his body throughout the swing. I really just can't even imagine the kind of flexibility Ernie Els has, it is truly unbelievable.
greggg4 3 years ago
I noticed one huge difference between the two players....Mr.Els actually had a gallery around him.I think the birds in those trees and that very clever camera were the only witnesses to Michele Wie.BooHoo...
TheHighHardOne 3 years ago
the reason to why michelle wie can hit the ball as far as she does is mainly because of the lateral movement. It allows her to power up and then uncoil her hips in a rotation that creates the power that the arms translate to the ball. Its the most classical way of getting power to explode at the ball with your hips and not your arms and shoulders. If you would look at Tiger's swing his left shoulder is over his right foot which gives him the immense power of the tee.

srrosa2006 i dont agree not forgetting samsnead , he has the most natural swing :).

ernie els hav a mint golf swing
766787 4 years ago
well I think her swing is kinda of good...but in her backswing there is to much lateral moving to the right...so she gets her center off the middle and has to slide to left to get her centre over the ball again....
what do u guys think ?
kordhose 4 years ago
i think its to complicated XD
lovehocki 4 years ago
na, it just looks like lateral cause of her dress. she turns her hip like ernie.
byongjoon 4 years ago
right, and you are qualified to make this comment because you play golf. Waddya shoot, 98?
terryoyama 4 years ago
I shoot pretty low scores and I agree that there is nothing mechanically wrong with her move off the ball. If the people breaking down her swing would spend some time breaking down the idiot's swings who comment on these golf videos then they can talk about bad mechanics and they will be right
tdelprete 4 years ago
Mechanically there is nothing wrong with her so-called move off the ball. It simply -A- way to load the body to uncoil. Although there are people that over do it.
jelqer 4 years ago
Boy, that is so right. Actually, the reason both of these players swing the club so well (at their best, anyway) is that pure swinging motion of the arms and club, and the hip turn, the "loading," all those things people like to talk about these days is a result. Anybody who stands straight up and swings their arms around their torso, or who throws a baseball as far as they can, can feel the same reaction in the body to support what you intend to do with the arms and hands.

whoa. I wonder whether Wie will ever be in the news for all the right reasons score-wise.

Yeah, she gets behind the ball more than Els does -- that's just one reason why she stinks.

lol, i would like to c u drive 320 yards.

I'm not impressed with 320 yards. It must be nice to be able to play every day with the best instruction money can buy with video swing vision to check all your positions. Most of us don't have the time to be that good. But we could be.
