Thanks for this great classic and "peppy" rendition of Harbor Lights. Wonderful instrumentation. I love this song's version by Billy Vaughn because it is a perfect foxtrot tempo for ballroom dancing! My favorite vocal rendition is by the Platters but unfortunately it is too slow for foxtrot.
Once upon a time people were like real, not phony substandard people. Imagine an entire country listening to records and listening to radio with high quality equipment, and the entire family did it together. Today a person listens to an i-pod, do you know how sad that sounds.
@nehouma - Ayr, for sure, and nowadays people don't even communicate!, they just push buttons on their cell phone and do not have the capability to have a real conversation.
No nosgustó.
OMG the closest thing to Billy Vaughn on Sax was Boots Randolph !!!! I love this song!!!! BTW is that Harry James playing trumpet?????? It sure sounds like him!!!! Thank you for posting this fantabulous song!!! Kudos!!!!
I close my eyes and still see mom and dad dancing to all this beautiful music.I too love Billy Vaughn.Tho it was before my time. Wish he was till here.Music sure isn't like this today ..I still have all my moms lp's but no way to play them.thanks to you and some others I can now hear them all again. And go back into time and remember the good days of my mom and dad..Thanks for sharing you have made my day.
@kywoman1950 You can buy a quality turn table (Son) has one with a needle that has a port to convert them to the computor then make your own quality discs. I too have all the old style of great music and I love Billy Vaughn.
The Billy Vaughan music was a great hit in India, and it used to be broadcasted from radio Ceylon, and in Calcutta we could hear it during the lunch hour -the lunchtime variety ,the good old days of St Pauls school 5 scott lane Calcutta where my father Mr HS Lall was the Principal
Nice new shirt Billy, unironed, straight out of the plastic wrapper. Sorry the temptation was too much. Wonderful music and deserving of the highest praise alongside giants of the era like Ray Conniff and Percy Faith. Thanks for the posting kotetu1011
"Pearly Shells" is one of my favorites. That picture of Vaughn holding his sax reminds me of the white-haired Ray Conniff. Put a beard on Billy and they'd look like brothers. Seems to me that when Vaughn came out with "Pearly Shells" and "Wheels," Lawrence Welk produced some music with a similar, tropical motif, unlike his usual big-band sound.
Thank you veeeery much for this memory. When I was young my father always heard Billy Vaughn but I never knew the real tune names cos we had only a tape and no LPs !
I never really paid any attention to the name Billy Vaughn. But now that I've checked him out, I'm glad that I did. His music is delightful. Thanks for posting his music for us all to enjoy.
So romantic and beautiful !
Thank You very much !
