I ran into this by accident. What a guy. But it was always so hard to get to the end of every movie he ever made - his character always came to a tragic end, usually dying. I didn't understand it.
I met Kirk and Anne when their son, Eric, and I were in rehab together in 1992. Lovely people, they are. I spent a good amount of time with Kirk, and wondered "What can I say that could possibly interest this man?". No problem. He put me right at ease, and even asked for hugs at times.
@MrJapaneseboy1111 Thanks. As was a First Responder on 9/11, I have come down with a number of illnesses including cancer, lung disease, and several others. Kind of put a cramp in my old lifestyle. I've been disabled since 2006, and have put down the drugs, etc. (except for the 37 prescribed for me). I appreciate your concern.
There is a huge difference in kirk Douglas after he had the stroke. It's like the voice of the Queen in Snow White after she turns into the apple hag.
@WizardOfHumor1989 He has come a long way and never gave up, even though he suffered from depression after suffering his stroke. He never lost his sense of humor and he is very inspiring to others. I recommend his lectures that are on YouTube, they are really fantastic.
Ah. Saw him in Paths of Glory and that was all I need. I am sure the praise he received was deserved but I will see more as long as I am in control of what happens.
Look at all those LEGENDS in the audience: Jack Lemmon, Gregory Peck, Don Rickles, James Coburn, Jimmy Stewart, Jack Nicholson, Lauren Bacall, Arthur Fonzarelli...
"I insisted that the movie end with me killing Rambo" -- like in the book, like it should have ended. But hollywood had different plans. Nice to see that Kirk admitted he changed his opinion. For me, the idea of "mindless" entertainment always was nonsense.
When America was still gripped in the paranoia of the 50's black list, it was Kirk who broke it down by being the first producer to hire blacklisted writers.
Awesome speech from Kirk.

@Dogheadj we are all disabled this way or the other
some mentally, some physically, some both, i actualy met some physically disabled people that enjoy life more then i ever did or will.
whats important in life is to know how to enjoy every moment of it,even the small insegnificent things like a good fart or a cup of tea !
enjoing life is an art and not many people realy know how to do it !
like any art it takes years of practice although some people like in any art are specially gifted.

He doesn't seem anything like a man in his mid-seventies here; I wonder what he would've been like if he never had a stroke?
