  • "and loose con-FUCKING-trol" *jizz*

  • 3:09 - dat bass :o

  • As an ancient fan of Tool, and a fan of kick-ass bands in general, I'd like to say that Karnivool has an identity and sound that is very unique. If you haven't bought their albums yet you really should! This song has some Tool-ish sounds... but believe me, they have their own incredible groove going on! Oh yeah, and check out Dead Letter Circus.. fuckin' Aussie bands just keep getting better and better!!!!

  • i can TOOL!!! both awsem!!!

  • @TheDobligator They sound alike in more aspects than just that. The wildy bass, not the sound of the vocals but the signatures sound alike aswell.

  • I my opinion their best song

  • the fact that they are aussie makes them so much better

  • yo Karnivool fans, check out our swedish sauna film clip! - Friendly Yen first single " The Colour" we worked with the Forrester Savell, the man responsible for the KArnivool albums!

  • Um that photo is karnivool not birds lol

  • Check us out, new track up! Influences from Tool, Alter Bridge, Karnivool, Mastodon, Dead letter Circus, HIM etc...

  • karnivool will always be comparible and will always be compared with tool but they are individual brilliant bands and there is no such thing as original anyway

  • birds, ok but Karnivool are much better.

  • Comment removed

  • @Xfidel1ty no mate - that's the 'Vool

  • @Xfidel1ty hahaha that photo is karnivool. get with it

  • Awesome, just awesome vocal!

  • Beast song

  • Random turtle is random.

  • You guys all really need to check out the version of this, with a brass horn section... fucking amazing..

    youtube.com/watch?v=MltY7S3IOog

  • I don't care who they sound like, or if they sound like anyone at all. They are so fucking awesome. Just enjoy it... feel the sound

  • I saw a gig in the UK where they played with Skindread and Dead by April... I left after Karnivool, it just couldn't compare!

  • man this band is jst karnivool no mixs the didnt puposely try to be like those bands they are jst who they are KARNIVOOL a awesome band.......

  • if all of you listen to the sound awake album this whole tool debate will go away. they are very individual with their style and i dont think any band compares to them, they stand alone. brilliant

  • @TheGallifreyDr

    odd time signatures .

    amazing instrumentals .

    powerful haunting vocals.

Ian Kenny's Vocal Range/style are comparable to Maynard Keenan (tool) and Layne Staley (Alice In Chains)

Ask Ian what his opinions are on Keenan. I promise you he will say he does not deserve to be likened to such a powerful singer, who has influenced him so greatly. It won't be true of course, Ian Kenny is a god, but he will say it none the less.

  • @TheGallifreyDr RIGHT ON BRO!

  • @TheGallifreyDr Then why does everybody compare them to Tool then?

Obviously it's because they sound like Tool. If Tool fans say they sound like Tool, they sound like Tool.

People don't throw comments around like that willy nilly, there is an obviious reason for it; and that is because they sound like Tool.

Yes, especially the Sound Awake album.

    Stop denying it, it's pathetic.

  • @Darfaultner you know who tool sound like? NIN. Seriously listen to it. What you can't see the resemblence. You're just denying it then. You're pathetic.

  • @TheIxnayhombre Hey, I never said that Tool wasn't influenced by others, I said that Karinivool sound like Tool.

I'm a massive fan of NIN, Tool AND Karnivool and that probably has to do with the fact that they sound similar.

    No denying it.

  • @TheGallifreyDr So Karnivool is similar to Tool in its songwriting intelligence. I wouldn't say they sound similar past the sense that both play what I would call art rock. Also, that comment seemed to imply that Karnivool is better than Tool, which raises a whole new argument haha. Let's not get into that one.

  • @TheGallifreyDr I agree that they are great, individual, unique, and are not just a copy of Tool, but whoa man, Tool's better. Let's just get that straight.

  • Im my opinion i think the way they work around metaphors and blend their music and lyrics so well is very tool-like, the sound in general is that subconscious distortion feel, that makes you drift and keeps your thinking active at the same time. if you seperate each part of the music no theyre not too similar, but at a whole and how its composed as a piece reminds me a lot of tool

  • @sol1f3l1k3 Yeah man, i totally see where your coming from. Epic as hell. Intelligent metal \m/ lol

  • There is 6 who are Justin Bieber fans...

  • this song has nothing to do with tool or its fucking band members, this is karnivool NOT tool

  • @MrBlistify no reason to feel defensive about it...most bands get their sound from other bands that influenced them. in some songs it sounds like theres a bit of tool influence...they still have their own style, but anyone who listens to tool knows theres no denying that karnivool has a similar sound xD

  • @CORNP00

Unfortunately the only Tool influence is some distorted guitars, and a *very* good singer. That is literally the only comparison, I hear more Foo Fighters influence than Tool, so personally, I am denying that they have a similar sound. They're completely different.

And I prefer Tool over Karnivool, but this whole fucking comparison with these 2 bands is completely ridiculous considering most people with an opinion don't even have the musical knowledge to play the fucking Triangle

  • @Mugenloo youre certainly entitled to your opinion, just as everyone else...i was not making any big debate or getting overly personal with my opinions. if some people think they sound a bit like Tool, then thats their perspective. and to share your perspective doesnt require musical knowledge...Im capable of playing the triangle, considering im a professional drummer... but that still dont got anything to do with the way i perceive music, nor anyone else.

  • @CORNP00

Haha then I guess you play a pretty mean Traingle(s) :)

But honestly the comments on 95% of Karnivool vids are just the same old vs Tool bullshit, it's a shame that professional musicians can fall into that same demographic so easily. I still disagree that they're anything alike and that Tool are just much "darker" and push them way out, but as you said, to each their own.

Just don't say that people "can't deny" they sound similar, because people wil disagree.

  • @Mugenloo How the fuck would you know what other people's music knowledge is?

  • @Darfaultner By reading the retarded comments they post on Youtube?

  • merci petit frenchi de partager de la booonnne musique , moi ca fait 10 ans que jai pas acheter un album te jure oui oui et la tu me voi a la fnac en train dacheter sound awak comme a lepoque de nirvana IN UTERO incroyable non? ;°

  • no offense to all the Great bands that you all list like tool, Breaking benjamin and such but... You all hear the similarities only cause you choose to, in Fact Karnivool has it's own unique style and influence that it original to themselves. Granted tool is great and Breaking Benjamin is also Great but in all honesty.... when you listen to music the fastest way to ruin it is by compairing....

  • I feel bad for this band getting compared to Tool. This is probably my favorite band of all time, and Tool is decent. I think its the American/Australian transfer that gets people confused. Anything that sounds different from Nickelback(even though their canadian HAHA) or any popular rock is compared to Tool, simply because inexperienced listeners think Tool is the most innovative band in the world. Sad...

  • @klearlyka...

Why would you feel sad that Karnivool is being compared to Tool? Tool was & is one of the most unique and influencial bands of the last decade. Just like you and I, the Karnivool boys grew up listening to american progressive rock songs during highschool and early adulthood, and guess what? they built a taste for certain styles of music, and they used those as the building blocks for their own style. That is what art & music is! There is no such thing as truely "unique" art...

  • @vector006 I disagree, I don't think Tool is one of the most unique. People think they are unique because they don't do what is popular. Tool just happens to be the underground band that got really popular. And as far as there being no such thing as unique art, you are defeating your own message about Tool. I kind of agree that all music is based on other music, but when you choose widely diverse players like Fredrick Thordendale and Steve Vai as inspiring, you get something no one has heard.

  • @klearlykahmerican Tool's greatest breakthrough was to meld dark underground metal with art rock, this was never really done before, although you may argue that Metallica may be in the same category. Tool was a break-through band that reached levels of complexity in their music that many other bands fail to reach. My point was that I can hear elements of Tool in Karnivool's music and i fail to see how you could consider this "sad". I also hear influences of PinkFloyd & King Crimson, is this sad?

  • @klearlykahmerican Tool were very innovative. I agree that no art is truly unique, but Tool certainly made a few innovations that were highly influential. They are hugely popular because they were brilliant, they played as a band, not focusing on any one instrument, like Metalica with their huge guitar riffs, but fairly lame base lines. I wouldn't compare this band to Tool, they are very dissimilar. Some of their riffs have a Tool sound, but their song structures are completely different.

  • @Tazwegian

    "Fairly lame bass lines"

I hope you're not talking about Cliff Burton (RIP) there, if so you are way off base (no pun intended upon rereading this sentence).

  • @MrDucktastic haha I am actually. Not saying was a bad bass player, just that there was not much to the bass lines he played. Their new bass player, whatever his name is, is a great bass player too, but he rarely gets to show it. Metalica just aren't that kind of band.

  • wow'

  • i hear a mix of tool and breaking benjamin.

  • @Hornfinger - Dead By April Are A Great Band! What's so suckish about them?

  • Can't wait to see these guys next month :D

  • AH! So I'm not the only one that thinks this sounds just a bit like Tool, not too much, but just enough to notice lol...

Tool is still buttloads better, but I'm OGT so that's a bit biast ;D

  • as if you could not like this song... death to those six people.

  • The lead singer is nuisanced, interesting weird but engaging. The band are tight talented and easily one of the best bands I have ever seen live. I have have seen hundreds of bands!! They are up there!!

  • BEST FUCKING AUSSIE BAND EVER! THEY BLOW AC/DC OUTTA THE WATER! Naw they r legends but Karnivool is close in my book, lol

  • @coppercove08

fuck man your not far off, they realy are that good lol!!!!!!!!!!!

  • sounds like tool haha that's funny. sounds more britney spears than tool.

  • @kharnvelzyghur i reackon they sound alot like TooL or atleast a cross between TooL and system of a down

  • yea wtf? why havent i ever heard of this band? great stuff! ive been searching for something similar to TooL.

  • @2001lateralus

yep and it was 4 years from their debut til the second album. the first one is still the best :)

  • This song kicks my ass nine ways from Sunday. Love it!

  • This song definatly remins me of Daron from Soad... This is wayy better!

  • I like the horns version more :) but this is good to...

  • freaking well good. Karnivool are class.

  • 'Roquefort' is a strong blue veined cheese made from ewe's or goat's milk...

  • yup, i can definitely hear some SOAD and Tool in there. but that's what i call a real musicality, to be able to inflect all these overt influences into something even more unique

  • @iberko

    soad?

    where exactly?

  • Dont EVER put Karnivool into a music genre!!!! I am from the US and they have their own sound! its kinda like Pink Floyd. IM NOT SAYING THEY ARE LIKE PINK FLOYD! But they have that unique sound. I have been getting into bands from 'across the pond' because bands from the States are all starting to sound the same. Agree?

  • @coppercove08 yes.

but to clarify, they are in ''progressive''

  • @coppercove08

A band from the states that got me into this band is Fair to Midland, they are definitely worth checking out if you want to hear some unique music. They just wrapped up a tour with Karnivool and it blew my mind.

  • @Metalguitarfreak I actually saw those two bands together at the Troubador in Los Angeles. Absolutely amazing show. Especially when Ian came out and sang a piece with FTM. Can't wait till they make their way back stateside again. Drove 2+ hours for that show, and would most certainly do it again.

  • @coppercove08 Totally. When they don't know what genre it is they say it's progressive rock or alternative metal. But it's Karnivool, folks! :)

  • does noone hear incubus/sikth at all?!?! lol

  • i hear some groove, personally.

  • Great! It's an awesome band!

  • I did this song for a lip sync assignment in Theatre.

  • saw these live at nottingham last week fooking quality

  • and february for U.S :D cant wait.

  • Get ready for one hell of a show =D

  • get ready for their upcoming album "sound awake"... just impressive, genius stuff.

  • @joder1979 Sound Awake was released last April.

  • @joder1979 Correction: Last June, I was looking at the wrong date, the single Set Fire to the Hive was released last April, but the Album was released last June.

  • @Bugsy99 not when it comes to the release date in europe. ;-)

  • Oh... right. My apologies.I hope I didn't seem too out of line.

  • @Bugsy99 no problem, bro :)

  • my favourite band and one of the drummers for karnivool and hes a pretty kool guy so yeah this my fav song aswell can get enough of it and also check out lifelike thats another awesome song.

  • Going to see them tommorow in Frankston

  • Me too, look out for the tool in the Rockwiz shirt (Y)

  • Saw them in brighton few weeks back, and have to say, they didnt put on a great show, wasnt much energy. But gave them a listen after and now I cant stop listening to them. His voice is brilliant!

  • sick song...i love the horns version even though it blocks out the kickass guitar solo...both versions are awesome :P being a horn player myself i probs prefer the horn version haha sort of a bond feel here and there...

  • FUCK YEAH !!!!!

  • sorry so day this byt DBA sucked live, great in cd but live not so good

  • Dead by april fucking sucked, and they sucked even more after going on after Karnivool who played awsome.

  • yeah same! wish they had more time than dead by april tbh.

  • sponge2502, i know that it was on there myspace not long ago.. try searching it on there it was under roguefort with horns. Not sure if it still is tho D;

  • I can hear the jazz influence and can't get enough of it.

  • i think i hear a mix of tool and SOAD...

    fukin grrrrreat!!

  • @GeorgeStark76 Though i love both Tool & System of a Down, the mere suggestion that Karnivool may be a somewhat Hybrid of the two undermines the caliber of Aussie hard rock/metal.

They're in a league of their own in my opinion!

  • @GeorgeStark76 fuck no tool is for wife beaters and soad for smack heads... lol these guys sound like Alexisonfire but better

  • @trentustrentus < douche

  • @trentustrentus Alexisonfire? Really? Wow, fuck dude get your ears checked.

  • @trentustrentus literally laughing out loud! your such a fool. what is that like?.....being a fool.

  • @GeorgeStark76 except this bands way better

  • why did they name the song after a cheese?hahaha.love the intro

  • I brought it last night off itunes. Go get it dude, it as awesome

  • its a bonus track off the new album sound awake

  • this was meant to be a reply to sponge2502

  • future masterpiece, mark my words :)

  • well birds of toyko and karnivool are different really, ones obvisouly heavier than the other, got karivools new album today :) its allright.

  • Sounds completely different to birds of tokyo and I love them both

  • Uh...nooooooooo, rofl.

  • agreed

  • Freaking love it. Try to follow the time signitures in the opening. It lost me. Mental

  • it's actually 4/4 but i can hear how the syncopation could be confusing. Great song. Great band.

  • i prefer Karnivool over Birds i just like the lyrics in the karnivool stuff more the style is bestter

  • Yeah Same, I Think The Lead Singer Suits Karnivool More.

In Saying That, Birds Of Tokyo Fucking Own Too.

  • Love The Band - Love The Song !

  • +10 because their aussie ;)

  • Powerful! and hard hitting. Bloody tight rythmically to.

  • wow

  • The second i heard this song on my radio in the U.S i went out and bought the Cd i love this band they are sgreat and have such a cool style of play all there song have diffrent styles to them and thats what makes them great

  • this song is awesome !!!!!! and the Mata as well

  • themata haha

  • love this song

  • Aussie rock has come so far in the past decade.

We've got so many good bands around at the moment.

Stuff like Cog, Butterfly Effect, Karnivool, King Mungi, Dead Letter Circus etc etc.

Keep em coming I say. Aussie rock... rocks!

  • MAMMAL

  • Living End. listen to how do we know. new song

    its EPIC

  • BIRDS OF TOKYO!!!!!!!!!

  • i love tool influenced rock

  • you cant really compare the two bands they have different playin styles

but also you cant compare the new karnivool too the old either before they were big and were a perth band their playin style was completley different as there were other band members

  • lmao @ foo fighters. karnivool shit all over foo fighters.....musically and in every other form. seen both live and vool are off the hook.

  • hell yeah!

  • i knew these boys before they ever released an album they used to play at a local pub of mine the old lead guitarist is my uncle they are quite a good band and their new stuff is exellent but i prefer their pre-album count

  • just becuase your uncle got cut.

  • he left actually wen he got a job he couldnt play with them anymore

  • sure sure he was probably the worst, he would be more wealthy now if he stayed in the band hmm what a bum

  • heaps of gr8 aussie bands coming just through the last few years like butterfly effect and cog grinspoon and to b able to throw a band like this into the mix just shows the talent australia realy has

  • Great bands have always been coming up , it's not a recent thing. It's just that not enough people see their smaller local bands and support more Aussie music because it's not played on commercial radio. (IMO)

    /rant. ; )

Check out: Dead Letter Circus, Birds of Tokyo, Many Machines On Nine, Mammal & Sleep Parade.... BRILLIANTS!!

  • rock solid... havent lived in aus for 5 years, but asked a mate about the band Cog and how they are goin n all, he said... 'yeah, they touring, but... check this sh!t...'

classic aussie rock... surely... without doubt...

  • You can like FF better than Karnivool, there´s nothing wrong with that.... but you have to admit that musically speaking these guys step all over FF any day.

  • Good band, verry nice song

  • good old aussie boys. keep ripping shit apart boy. fukn magic,ya's filled a big void in my day.

  • fuckin' awesome band!!

  • best song ive found in so long, if these guys were well known this song'd be a classic already

  • they are well knowen you fucken tool

  • no. u2 are. foofighters are. tool are. 3.5 k youtube views= obscurity. noone outside aus knows these exist. gtfo troll

  • Haahahahahahahahahahahahaha fish bratt= pwned

  • thank you :D, but yes im saying song kicks ass and i like em a lot more than u2, jsut a shame they aint as big as em

  • Yeah i know ive been listening to this song like and other for hours straight of karnivool since i heard them o the radio

  • Definitely.. and there are tons of great bands out there that will never get known. It sucks but is the truth. The beauty about it is that they continue putting their lives into it; few are even lucky enough to break even but do it for the love of creating and sharing music first and foremost.

  • sadly too true ma man

  • well their CD just came out in US a little bit ago so they will probably be more known in a few months. but i went to austrailia last month and they are huge there.

  • Thats coz they're an aussie band.. We support our Aussie bands, if they're good that is. Fortunately for Karnivool, they are an awesome band! :D
