i wouldn't be so quick to give up on Gustavsson. he's had some confidence issues this year and some inconsistency, but it wouldnt shock me to see him steal the show next season. He hates to lose and i hope he proves a lot of people wrong, for his sake and the leafs
Give me a break. Sometimes I am sick of being a leafs fan. A solid young goalie prospect has 3 bad games and the fans and media think his career is in jeopardy. But of course no one blames the goal support he got in many of his games this year.
@troyMLG not at all, he is just over hyped by the toronto media in the first place. 3.28 GAA, 6-13, .890 Save %...hardly impressive numbers. Should have given him time to develop like Cory Schneider, who is 2 years younger and putting up much better numbers. He spent his time in the AHL and is now lighting it up
@stephen2767 He wasn't overhyped! He was THE goalie in the swedish elite leagues and was .001 percent off of Lundquist's save percentage record in the elite leagues and he had like a 1.39 GA average in the playoffs. While I do agree with you on that the Leafs should've game him a season or two to play in the AHL to get used to North American style. Stats don't tell how bad the Leafs D has played infront of him and the goal support he got in his games.
@troyMLG Another reason why the leafs fail, every time there is a big rookie the media and fan base expects him to be their savior and puts a ton of pressure on him. Look at Kadri, sure he will be good, but when he came up did nothing. Last night, Hogson got his first goal in only his 2nd game. And you could argue he isnt even in the best shape after the broken orbital bone. Leafs try to rush their players, many stars did their time in the AHL, and are now reaping the benefits.
@stephen2767 Nazem Kadri is in his first year in the AHL and the Leafs last year let him develop more in juniors. The Leafs are taking the right approach to Kadri. Kadri has 24 points in 24 games in the AHL while Hodgson playing on a better team has only 16 points in 28 games. Kadri shows tremendous potential. I even had the chance to watch about 6 of his games and he is so offensively dominant similar to how Ovechkin takes the breathe away from the building. Anyways this kid is great.
@troyMLG Did you seriously compare Kadri to ovechkin?? If he is so dominant then how come he was virtually invisible when he came up? Hodgson was plagued with injuries and when he finally became healthy he went on a tear before his teammate broke his orbital bone...and he still scored 2nd game playing with 4th liners. Kadri played on all lines and still did nothing...
@stephen2767 He had like 6 assists in 5 games before Ron Wilson (genius lol) sent him down the third line. But he just needs to get stronger which is why he was sent down. He needs to be stronger to get to the dirty areas. He will be up next season if he does that. He scored 2 goals and 1 assist in a pre-season game and he was dominant. Why don't you watch him play in the AHL and you will see how offensively dominant he is. Honestly. You could read out stats all day but it doesn't mean dik
@stephen2767 Why are you talking about a savior? A savior? He will be a good first line player in the NHL most likely. That is all the leafs want of him is to put up points. A savior? A savior is like Crosby or Ovechkin and he obviously wont be that good but lol at you. You actually know nothing. What is your favourite team so I can rip apart them.
@troyMLG Actually most people i talk to think he will bring them cups haha...And im a fan of the Canucks and Blue jackets because my friend is slotted to play for them soon...
@stephen2767 The Canucks are like Ottawa. No matter how good of a team they have no matter if they make it to the playoffs or not, they always lose. No wonder you were praising Hodgson and Schneider (an average goalie). Hodgson is a decent prospect. You don't have many others. And Hodgson probably wont be happy if he becomes good because he won't get as much ice time as he would like because of the others. I wouldn't suprise to see him opting out.
@troyMLG I dont know about you, but most people would say that the canucks have built a great team this year. And what about jordan schroeder? He is another great prospect. All of our prospects have to develop in the AHL. Schneider would be a #1 on your dismal team haha. Hodgson will likely be shifted in as a 2nd line winger when samuellson or Raymond gets traded. Just think, Kesler started in the AHL and in the 4th line, now he has 30 goals already. At least our team makes the playoffs...
@stephen2767 I never said they didn't. Shroeder is not even that good at all. He is 5'9 (as tall as my little 13 year old brother) and has 15 points in 30 games this season in the AHL. Hodgson gets one goal and your ready to ship him into the 2nd line? Kesler is a rare breed. Look at Datsyuk getting drafted in the 6th or 8th round. There are exceptions but those are very rare. At least our team has a stanley cup; Actually 13. How many does yours? Oh yeah 0....zerooooooooo.....
@troyMLG schroeder was a beast in world juniors, give him time. And kesler was a first round pick, so not that rare. And i meant hodgson on the 2nd line in the future. And you guys won in '67 congrats, how many teams were in your league then? you guys have a longer cup drought then us, which is what matters after all. At least we can make the playoffs constantly, unlike the leafs
@troyMLG The Canucks have only been a team since 1970 and the last time the Toronto Maple Laughs won a cup was in 1967 so Toronto has acutally been cup-less longer than the Canucks. Two more things, The Canucks are not even half as old as the Maple Leafs, I'm pretty sure when the Nucks have been around for 84 years too, they might win a cup and also Toronto won a few cups when there was 6 teams in the league, now there are 30 you fucking goof... OWNED
@nacholibre110 the leafs have 15 championships: 13 cups and 2 championships before it was the stanley cup...i doubt that the canucks will have that many cups when they r 84 yaers old...OWNED

@hockeysoccerunning1 Yeah we will see who does better when the Sens run into Kessel, Bozak, Armstrong, Versteeg, MacArthur, Komisarek, Phaneuf, Jiggy, Schenner (who by the beefed up 25 pounds to 240) and then we will see what team does better in the standings. But oh wait you guys got 38 year old Sergei Gonchar, lol who am i kidding that bum won't make much of an impact
I can't wait for two or three years when he is the consensus #1 goalie. With jiggy as his mentor and francois allaire coaching him, he is gonna be a star. He showed a lot of improvement over just one season. By the end of the year he had changed soo much. His rebound control was better he was more composed and more calm in net with his movements. He is gonna be great.
Considering the shooter basically shot the puck RIGHT at him. I wouldn't say it was that GREAT of a save. If he had put the puck top shelf Jonas wouldn't have had a chance.
@TheHockeyCentral He made the stop didn't he? 2 on 0? He never shot it right at him. From one angle you can see the guy was aiming far away as Gustavsson as he could, he stopped it at the edge of his pad. It's pretty sad that people like you can't give anyone a break. You could have said that comment to any good save on the internet that the shooter shot right at him or say the goalie was standing up you could say that he could of shot low. If the goalie makes the stop give him credit.
@bigmfj thats what you call fans..what else do you expect us to do? Not like any Canadian team has won recently anyway..so whatever team you are supporting let me guess..wait till next year.
I guess in Toronto we can always go support basketball or baseball...I mean we technically are team Canada in those sports :P
@FearOfTheFlesh i must have forgot to say.....GO HABS GO. and by the amount of fans that have been going to see the jays u are not supporting them(im a fan of the jays).im giving the raptors around 3 more years before they are gone.
@bigmfj Yes the Habs are awesome. Baseball is more than 100 games a season, and the skydome is huge. For a baseball team in a country that doesn't even cover the sport, its amazing the Jays do so well+ Boston + NY are in their group. The Raptors get a lot of fans and the games are almost always full, as long as they go 0.500 on their games they will easily survive.
@troyMLG you are sounding pretty stupid, must be past your bedtime. #13 is still leading the playoffs in goals and halak must be really good to beat both the caps and pens all by himself. i would rather have players with alot of heart rather than height.
@bigmfj Are you talking about Phil Kessel? Because he is 6 foot. Montreal shouldn't of even been in the playoffs too. Washington and Pittsburgh thought it was going to be easy and Montreal took advantage. When Montreal was considered an actual somewhat of a threat they got their asses handed to them.
@troyMLG kessel is listed as 5 11, tom pyatt scored more playoff goals this year(to funny) you are just like all maple leaf fans except you didnt tell me "wait till next year".
go drink more of the blue kool-aid. just to let you know if you finish in the top 8 in your conf. you make the playoffs,im going to let u slide on that because im sure you cant remember the last time the leafs did that.
@bigmfj Typical frog. There is Leafs fans all around the world. Shows how loyal we are because we leaf fans don't bandwagon on to better teams. We stick with our team. I don't even drink kool-aid but why don't you go sip some whine and eat some cheese and go back to France. You have no one good on Montreal it is too funny. Bright future you got!
@troyMLG typical leaf fan,im from ontario and not even close to being french. no one good? you make me laugh,no love for mikeC who still leads all playoff goal scorers. dont reply again until the leafs make the playoffs,im sure you will be done going through puberty by then. 29th to funny.
@bigmfj You might as well be a frog for liking a french team which has alphabet jerseys. Mike C as you say is not even good. All he does is wait at the top of the the circle and then shoot when his guys screen the goalie. Don't even reply, I don't want to waste my time with a frog fan.
@troyMLG just like talking to a brick wall, the leafs are terrible, nothing left to say. who now has the longest drought without a cup...to funny. habs are the last canadian team to win a cup and will be the next to win it. 3rd in the NHL this year(remember the playoffs are what count)
@bigmfj Yeah I'm a Leaf fan, but i'm not bashing the habs or being bias in anyway. I'm just speaking my mind, and I think Halak was better then price and price can't handle the pressure playing in MTL. Though I do like the Dan Ellis trade, I think he will out play Price
@doh23 Nah that was a few hours before he went to sign with Tampa, if you look at the date you see it was on free agency day. So yes I am following hockey bud
@17865329 Can't say I disagree with your assessment of the Leafs, they're pretty damn awful. As for Gustavsson, the jury is still out on him, though I love his style of play and combination of speed and size. I was a huge Cujo and Belfour fan and I'm not discounting what they did for the franchise, both are obviously better goaltenders, I just happen to like Gussy a whole heck of a lot. Hope he finishes the season strong.
kinda ridiculous how 1/2 the clips of the monster on youtube start with leafs D spinning uselessly or reaching with their sticks. give him some time he's gonna be great. improve the D and his numbers r gonna soar. he needs to be signed. plz.
så klart en apa från skansen säger nåt sånt dumt, vad gör honom till bög? att han har en snygg blondin till flickvän? att han lirar i NHL? vad? eller är det att han vann mot ditt kära dif förra säsongen?
you leaf fans have been blinded because your team has sucked for many decades. if you win two games in regulation in a row, you are automatically handing a vezina for your goalie. but i will take back my words about gustavsson if you guys make it to the playoffs. im not here to argue.
Why do you pretend to know anything about Gustavsson or the Leafs? He has played a dozen or so games in the NHL and has played decent but will have to improve. No one was expecting him to come here and dominate. Give your "gus sucks" bullshit a rest.
seriously this guy's not that great. he is always out of place and that's why he makes the saves look huge. these kind of saves don't matter if you can't be steady night to night. and same goes to toskala. both freaking suck
hey, wait! that is the swedish league WHICH YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT. it doesn't matter what his stats were in another league, moron. he is in the NHL now and not playing steady. he is playing better than toskala though. Faggot
Gustavsson is a rookie you tool. His stats in the sweedish league are rival to henrik lundqvists. Hes got potential. You are just here to argue. Its kind of clear you know nothing.
The way the crowd reacted to this goal is something I haven't seen since Cujo was in net. Gustavsson has been a huge breath of fresh air with the kind of dominating performance he's been displaying over the last couple of weeks. The Leafs haven't had this kind of goaltending in YEARS.
I still can't get over how much net this guy's frame takes up.
No offense to the monster fans but neither him or Toskala are playing like an NHL starter as of now. Just watch guys like Vokoun, Fleury, Luongo, Kiprusoff, Backstrom, Thomas, Khabibulin etc etc and what these guys do, in a lot of games, you'd quickly realize that our starting goalie needs to be something else. If you want to be an NHL goalie you need to make spectacular saves 4/5 of the season. 1/5 isn't quite it.
IMHO gustavsson isn't a starter, should have taken Khabi or someone like him.
Färjastads BK raised that kid to the best goalkeeper in the world!!

@troyMLG kessel is listed as 5 11, tom pyatt scored more playoff goals this year(to funny) you are just like all maple leaf fans except you didnt tell me "wait till next year".
go drink more of the blue kool-aid. just to let you know if you finish in the top 8 in your conf. you make the playoffs,im going to let u slide on that because im sure you cant remember the last time the leafs did that.
bigmfj 1 year ago
@bigmfj Typical frog. There is Leafs fans all around the world. Shows how loyal we are because we leaf fans don't bandwagon on to better teams. We stick with our team. I don't even drink kool-aid but why don't you go sip some whine and eat some cheese and go back to France. You have no one good on Montreal it is too funny. Bright future you got!
troyMLG 1 year ago
@troyMLG typical leaf fan,im from ontario and not even close to being french. no one good? you make me laugh,no love for mikeC who still leads all playoff goal scorers. dont reply again until the leafs make the playoffs,im sure you will be done going through puberty by then. 29th to funny.
bigmfj 1 year ago
@bigmfj You might as well be a frog for liking a french team which has alphabet jerseys. Mike C as you say is not even good. All he does is wait at the top of the the circle and then shoot when his guys screen the goalie. Don't even reply, I don't want to waste my time with a frog fan.
troyMLG 1 year ago
@troyMLG just like talking to a brick wall, the leafs are terrible, nothing left to say. who now has the longest drought without a cup...to funny. habs are the last canadian team to win a cup and will be the next to win it. 3rd in the NHL this year(remember the playoffs are what count)

@bigmfj Dude, The habs traded Halak, Enough said... Price can't handle Montreal and that will cause the Habs lots of trouble
cypress187666999 1 year ago
@cypress187666999 please tell me you are not another leaf fan trying to bash the habs.............it doesnt work.
bigmfj 1 year ago
@bigmfj Yeah I'm a Leaf fan, but i'm not bashing the habs or being bias in anyway. I'm just speaking my mind, and I think Halak was better then price and price can't handle the pressure playing in MTL. Though I do like the Dan Ellis trade, I think he will out play Price

@Ovechkin81He is not great, and neither is that Leafs team.
17865329 1 year ago
@17865329 Can't say I disagree with your assessment of the Leafs, they're pretty damn awful. As for Gustavsson, the jury is still out on him, though I love his style of play and combination of speed and size. I was a huge Cujo and Belfour fan and I'm not discounting what they did for the franchise, both are obviously better goaltenders, I just happen to like Gussy a whole heck of a lot. Hope he finishes the season strong.

Azzozo1 2 years ago
you leaf fans have been blinded because your team has sucked for many decades. if you win two games in regulation in a row, you are automatically handing a vezina for your goalie. but i will take back my words about gustavsson if you guys make it to the playoffs. im not here to argue.
Peltoperkule 2 years ago
Why do you pretend to know anything about Gustavsson or the Leafs? He has played a dozen or so games in the NHL and has played decent but will have to improve. No one was expecting him to come here and dominate. Give your "gus sucks" bullshit a rest.
DieFAGSroflcopter 2 years ago
Wow, thats a very laughable comment. You really don't know much do you?

Woops i didnt mean to say that on this video. wrong one. Sorry, peltoperkule.
N00bious 2 years ago
seriously this guy's not that great. he is always out of place and that's why he makes the saves look huge. these kind of saves don't matter if you can't be steady night to night. and same goes to toskala. both freaking suck
Peltoperkule 2 years ago
than why would they call gustavsson the best goalie out of the NHL right before toronto signed him?
armydude2799 2 years ago
this guy sucks? really? look at his swedish league playoff stats fucker. 13 wins 5 shutouts 1.03 GAA. Faggot
00Dann99 2 years ago
hey, wait! that is the swedish league WHICH YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT. it doesn't matter what his stats were in another league, moron. he is in the NHL now and not playing steady. he is playing better than toskala though. Faggot

XnightvisionX 2 years ago
The way the crowd reacted to this goal is something I haven't seen since Cujo was in net. Gustavsson has been a huge breath of fresh air with the kind of dominating performance he's been displaying over the last couple of weeks. The Leafs haven't had this kind of goaltending in YEARS.
I still can't get over how much net this guy's frame takes up.

17865329 2 years ago
No offense to the monster fans but neither him or Toskala are playing like an NHL starter as of now. Just watch guys like Vokoun, Fleury, Luongo, Kiprusoff, Backstrom, Thomas, Khabibulin etc etc and what these guys do, in a lot of games, you'd quickly realize that our starting goalie needs to be something else. If you want to be an NHL goalie you need to make spectacular saves 4/5 of the season. 1/5 isn't quite it.
IMHO gustavsson isn't a starter, should have taken Khabi or someone like him.
