he is not playing an A. he is playing flat a!!! in other words he tuned his guitar half step down and also palm mutes the OPEN d, g and b - strings, while going back to the third bar with his index finger with those three strings

Never was a huge blues fan. But SRV was the man! If there is a reason to learn to play the blues, it's Steve Ray. Being a metal fan I sometimes like to imagine Dime, Cliff Burton, SRV, et al playing in heaven. Yet another amazing musician taken from us far too soon.

you can play the notes but not with any feel my friend. and your thumb mutes string 5 and 6 with no help from the middle finger. the "upclicks" are played open (not muted with the left.) Put vibrato on your third note too
