  • I can't imagine why, but on 'Blue Rosebuds' that high-pitched voice in the middle sounds like Sandy Squirrel of 'Spongebob Squarepants'.

Am I being weird in thinking the Spongebob folks could cover The Residents? I keep hearing Squidward singing 'Sinister Exaggerator'.

Maybe I should see a shrink...

  • What exactly is good in this? The atmosphere? The weirdness? I don't get this.

  • This is what happens when you play ELO records backwards!

  • ooooooooohhhh wreeeed!!!!

  • I first got into the residents when I was 11 (33 Years ago) I think its safe to say they helped to wreck my head..... I feel a bit better nowadays though !

  • tremendo

  • still your favourite Ferlinghetti.....

your heart is like a silken(?) sponge that calls

    saliva

    love

    *sigh*

    serious poetry

  • What pretty music.

I got this when it came out years ago. It's worn well.

  • I like this album because it sounds really shitty, and the music is so good that it makes the shitty sound a benefit!! Seriously, you don't need to have a good sounding record, just a record with good songs!!

  • I attended a show that was performed by one of the members of the Residents (wont mention his name because they dont reveal their identies) and he had a very old keyboard with an analog rhythm and percussion section however he sounded amazing.

  • @mrbilken Wait, when was that?

  • yes............Awsome`

  • Always awesome live.

  • Interesting.

  • I wonder if this was done with a modular moog

  • nope - miscellaneous cheap crap. there's that funny synth-like sound in the first and last parts, but the rest is analog drumbox, bass, guitar, and stacked guitars with the 'female' vocal (those tinny things are electric guitars - you can hear one or more plucking muted strings in the fadeout)

  • @msbfd I'm pretty sure that even the swirling synth-like sound at the beginning of "Blue Rosebuds" is just several tracks of heavy delayed guitars.

  • weird.I´m really scared

  • @foogrrrl

    LOL!

  • Out of 12,517 views, I think I got about half of them. EYE love the Residents!

  • I think most of whats on the "popular" rock/indie/dj scene was affected by the residents.

  • I think Les Claypool's style of singing was slightly inspired partly by The Residents.

  • you think?

  • Good!

    :)

  • After listening to Blue Rosebuds for the first time last week, I think I discovered the inspiration behind Mr. Mackey's unique voice, mmmkay? :)

  • ...and Mr. Hankey!

  • Primus alsp covered the residents' jello skinny and constantinople as a bonus track on frizzle fry.(1st album)

  • ...Rosebud i guess tonight it has 2 do with Citizen Cane, and on ..... i see Bunny tomorow in Gothenburg.......

  • I remember someone giving me Primus' Misc. Debris and hearing Sinister Exaggerator and thinking damn! Someone's actually covered a Residents song. I love the Residents...and obviously so did Claypool, lol.

  • yeah you can hear the inspiration radiating from the way claypool sings

  • there is another really good band called idiot flesh that covered bach is dead

  • blocparty experimental? seriously? try listening to Gang of Four's "Entertainment" and you'll forget all about blocparty.. 20 years before those kids atleast

  • was there some part of "and people today think bloc party are experimental" that you mistook as the poster's actual opinion & not an ironic comment on the state of things? moshimoshi's on our side, god-dammit.

love the residents & gang of 4 too, btw.
