The modern master of classical guitar. This is about the tenth song by Andrew that I have studied. Andrew's compositions are by far the most interesting to play of any classical guitarist, modern or not. I hope he continues to compose pieces like this.
@Littlemountainguitar I feel like this statement is coming out of ignorance, though I'm open to be corrected on that. I don't argue the quality of Andrew York's compositions, but saying his "compositions are by far the most interesting to play of any classical guitarist, modern or not" is a huge overstatement. If you disagree, try studying Brouwer, Tarrega, Dyens, Torroba, Sergio Assad, or Barrios. After doing so, let me know if you still hold to this opinion.
Beautiful. A performance major friend of mine tuned me in to Mr. York's pieces, and I haven't looked back, his style of composition is just.... awesome. I hope to some day write music as beautiful as this.
Bravo. You play with such feeling. This music is so inspiring. I am a painter and I have been trying to say this in my painting "Solitude, Sugarloaf mountaing East View"
I'm trying to learn this piece (OK, it's way ahead of me - but it's such a beuatiful piece that I want to give it a try). According to the sheet music (and you can hear it att around 0:26, he plays a right hand harmonic on the 2nd string AND a normal note on the 1st string simultaneously. I have NO CLUE how to do this. Any leads as to the right technique would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
@borowczyk76 It looks like he is using his thumb and pointer finger to do a natural harmonic on the 12th fret of the second string- using the thumb to pluck the string and the pointer to lightly touch it. Then at the same time he uses his ring or middle finger to pluck the first string. Of course it's much easier said than done but after a bit of practice it shouldn't be too much harder than a regular right hand harmonic. Hope this helps!
@borowczyk76 i have respect for you; you acknowledge its ahead of you yet your passion for learning this song leads you on; i hope 4 months down the road you are A. still learning it and close to finishing it B. still learning it and have a ways to go (which is okay) or C. have already learned it. too many people nowadays on instruments see something hard or someone play really well and say "i give up or say i should quit guitar" its rare; well for me at least, to see someone take on a challenge
@markusthefarkus1 At this point I'm able to get through the song from A to Z, I know all the notes, but things are far from fluid. Some parts sound OK, although I do prefer playing it slower than M. York, and I still have trouble with the harmonics. But I still practice every day. When I feel I've hit a plateaux with this one, I move along to other songs and try and develop skills elsewhere and always come back to it once in a while to see where I'm at. One day!! :) Thx for the support!

Hey Drake, you are one shallow piece of shit...go ahead and put your sorry ass up here playing a classical guitar piece and we can critique your looks too. Asswipe!
Andrew was a good friend of my brother, Tom Cosoleto, who also played guitar. Andrew played one of my brother's favorite compositions at my brothers funeral in 2007. Faire. I wish I had a video of Andrew playing that selection, but I don't see it on youtube.
I absolutely love Andy's compositions. This is one of my favorites. It's great to see him play it. I have been working on this piece, it's always good to see the composer perform his own works.
hey do u have a video of andrew york doing evening dance. all there is on youtube is random people doing it who obviously havent practiced it enough before they record it. anyway just get bak to me if u do
how does everyone rate john williams so highly but hardly anyone know this dude - he has written loads of great original stuff and is a cool performer. he's definately my classical guitar hero
Im glad everyone is telling me where to get this awesome piece of music, but i got a copy and i'd appreciate it if everyone stopped answering my question. Thanx!
go to 4shared(dot)com and search Andrew York. It should be called Andrew York - 8 Dreamscapes or something like that, just like what greekyboy said. Its free. and includes couple other cool songs.
The Master of Modern Guitar, So underrated its a sin!!!! He not only plays faultlessly but also is the one of the greatest composer for the guitar alive today and maybe even of the 1900 century. Thank you Andrew with all my heart!! John
