Emmit was the best "ALL AROUND" Running back, he could run, catch the ball out of the back field and block, Barry was the best "Pure" Running back, he couldn't block very well....
Either way to compare the 2 of them is stupid, Emmit stayed in the league like 10 years longer then Barry ... They were both GREAT, and we'll probably never see backs like them ever again !!!
People talk trash about Emmitt Smith just because he played for the Cowboys. If ands and buts. The fact is, he stamped it in the record books. It's going to be a while before we see another running back with this much skill and heart, and don't say Adrian Peterson.
And Emmitt's the best not because he has the most talent, but because he had the most heart. He gave everything he had to help his team win and thats more you can say for Barry Sanders, he was closing on the record and only 10 years into his career he just retired out of no where. Thats not the player Emmitt was, it was never about him or about the stats, it was about winning and about being a team player and that is why Emmitt Smith is the best running back ever to play.
is it just me or are the top comments from guys who are just hating on Emmitt? If they think hes not the best, why the hell are the watching a video called "Emmitt Smith: The Greatest"?. Its fucking stupid and btw, it doesnt matter who the hell tries to tackle him he breaks the tackle and keeps going and has Barry Sanders ever played with a dislocated shoulder?? or how about rush for a 100 yards with a dislocated shoulder? Yeah I didn't think so
I live in texas and Im a die hard Pat's fan for life, never been a cowboy fan, but if i was forced to get a cowboys jersey I would get an Emmit Smith jersey
One of the big things that you haters need to look at is that Emmitt had 175 TDs 2nd only to Jerry Rice keep that in mind haters Emmitt was a great RB
Yea you are right Emmitt did have 18355 yards. Tell me this...who has touched it? Is Barry going to make a comeback? You can down talk the cowboys now because they aren't what they used to be. One thing I can guarantee you is; you can never strip Emmitt and his team of their truly earned glory.
It's like I tell everyone, is Michael Jordan considered the best because he ALMOST broke most of the records? Because he ALMOST won the dunk contest or got 6 rings? No!! Because he actual did!!! So I don't care what Barry Sanders ALMOST did. Emmitt Smith actual did something that no other RB has ever done before which is have all of those records, have 3 rings (including Super Bowl MVP), and he IS the all time leading rusher! I don't if he did it in 2 weeks or 20 years! Da point is HE DID IT!
and Walter Payton and Emmit were good friends. It was Payton one of the greatest running backs ever that wanted Emmit to break his record. If i am holding the record on something. I would want who i think is the best to break it.
Give barry a good o-line and things wouldve been different. not necessarily a good thing either. They are both amazing running backs! Neither one is better then the other! They are two different style running backs. So stop with the bitchin! you all sound stupid as hell. Its not Emmit vs Barry, it was Emmit vs Defense and Barry vs Defense. think about it..morons.
God damn it, stop trying to compare them!! you guys are all annoying as shit. Stop with the "IF"s first of all. "IF" barry had a o-line, "IF" he played longer, STFU!! Barry didnt! Emmit did! Not the point. Emmit has the record for a reason. 15 years as a running back no matter what offensive line you have is incredible...oh and uhh retards, barry was a master at using his shit O-line to make great runs. That was his style of run.
i admit smith is good i give him dat but i still think barry sanders is betta just imagine if he had a line, he would made smith record an embarassment
@bxistris For sure man,I respect your opinion. I always thought Faulk was the best but I know most people don't rank him as high and as for Sayers I'm a Bears fan so it's hard not to put him there.
@king220816 Records huh?Barry played 10 years.Emmitt played 15. Emmitt had 18355 at the end of his career,Barry had 15269.Emmit averages 4.2 per carry his entire career,Barry averages 5.0.It took Emmitt 5 extra years to get 3086 more yards than Barry.Go back to school and retake math, and art class while you are at it,Emmit has numbers, but Barry has numbers too and also made running an art.So you STFU for you have no clue at all. And make sure you go back to school while you are at it.
@logic828 yo fuck head learn what your talking about and guess what yur boy barry didnt touch emmitts record thats why emmitt still is the best;..fukkn sped
@yaboiizfr3sh98 Did you even read what I wrote? I never said emmit was bad, just that he is not the greatest, and I said it in a joking way referring to Barry as the greatest.Yep you are right,Barry didn't touch emmit's record, because he retired BEFORE IT WAS EMMIT'S RECORD.Emmit is the one who had something to prove didn't he? 5 years to pass Barry by three thousand yards..... and Payton by 2k or so,Oh damn shit he blew them away!!! And he still cant touch either one of them.FUCKHEAD.
@logic828 LMAO, took the words right outta my mouth! Notice how the clips keep repeating and his great runs are all from his early years...check out those Rams uniforms. Also, on almost every tackle he breaks there's a DB with his head down trying to cut.
I love how people say the Offensive line made Emmitt. Look at the starting line-ups in the dynasty years. The Offensive line was a different combination every year, almost. You know who the constant was? The guy running behind it. If anyone could have dominated behind that offensive line, why didn't any of his back-ups manage to?
Why didn't Curvin Richards? Derrick Lassic? Blair Thomas? (You know, that RB who got taken in the same draft 15 picks ahead of him?)
Football is evolution, every record will be broken, but some records are more difficult to break like Tom Landry's 20 consecutive winning seasons, and lombardis 5 championships, emmith smith all time leading rushing record and jerry rice's Records
i'm sure many of you people saying that payton will alway's be the best are the same people that say no one will ever surpass Jordan in the game of basketball....ignorant.
Did anyone else ever QB an NFL game besides Walter Payton, No they did not. Greatest FOOBALL player ever, period. Emmitt said, and I quote, "He is at the top of the list , trust me"
There have been many great running backs in NFL history, and you could make a case with any number of them. Jim Brown comes to mind, along with such greats as Barry Sanders, Emmitt Smith, and LaDainian Tomlinson. But for sheer physical ability and the list of accomplishments achieved, there can be only one that can be called the greatest: Walter Payton.
@TheOtteroo You need to do some research about accomplishments. Almost every accomplishment or record Payton owned Barry Sanders broke while playing 3 years less.
@Bigballin211 Jim Brown played in the most physical era in football history and he dominated his whole career. If he played in Emmitt's era his records will never be broken.
IF U HATE THE COWBOYS U SUCK ASS, IF U DONT U GOT TASTE AND UR COOL IM THERE SUPA FAN!! IF U GOT A PROB POST IF AND IF YA DONT U DONT GOT THE BALLS!! ALSO IF U DONT GROW SOME!! :)
The video speaks for itself, E. Smith was the greatest all-around RB ever. There are a few who could claim to be more elusive, but Smith was the greatest. Pontifexish doesn't know WTF he's talking about - Smith was also one of the most humble. He never celebrated or drew attention to himself the way players today do. He'd point to the air and let his teammates swarm him, maybe point to the air. Then it was off to the sideline, touchdown ball in hand. That's class. Emmitt Smith IS a legend.
Apart from Emmitt Smith's gaudy numbers being largely attributable to his offensive line, he was also an arrogant, classless showboater throughout his career. When other NFL stars play through injuries, they generally downplay it when interviewed, but Emmitt Smith always used it as an opportunity to promote himself as some kind of Superman. Whenever he scored, he immediately took his helmet off, and he famously saved every single TD ball. If you weren't a Cowboys fan, he was detestable.
Emmitt Smith was unquestionably a great running back, but there's just no way he can be seriously considered the greatest of all time. No other HOF running back had anything close to the talent blocking in front of him that Smith had for most of his career. In over forty years of watching football, I've never seen an OL create bigger running lanes than that Cowboys squad--Emmitt Smith was strong and fast enough to exploit this advantage, but without it he wouldn't have broken a single record.
plus emmitt smith didnt have the best offense line in the nfl or anything trucks could of drove through the guys holes. barry sanders, adrian peterson 2 rbs with shotty olines that are damn good
The only one you can compare Barry Sanders too is Michael Jordon. Theres great athletes than there is another league of super great athletes. The two greatest of all time in there sports. Lets put it this way Barry Sanders is the Michael Jordon of football and Michael Jordon is the Barry Sanders of basketball.
Emmitt was better than Barry by legions. It's not contest. Barry is flashier, possible faster, possibly stronger, but Emmitt hit the holes he was suppposed to hit. Emmitt ran the play. He didn't lose yardage run after run after run -- bec ause that loses you games. Sure, you can bust a big one every now and then that way, but you get behind in the ball game. Emmitt ran where he was supposed to like no other. The Greatest.
@braininahat Emmitt hit the holes because you could drive a truck thru them holes half the line were pro bowlers. They were known to have the best offensive line. Yeah Barry holds the record for most negative yards and still averaged 5 yards per carry. That means on his other runs Barry had to average over 7 yds from scrimmage. Emmitt is top five behind Walter Payton & Jim Brown. Barry is not only the greatest running back but the greatest football player ever.
@edpoker69 When you said barry was the greatest football player ever thats a joke. Barry sanders COULD not play in outdoor weather. He didn't get the lions far, or he couldnt catch/block better then walter payton. Payton's team was worse then barry's lions, ofc until payton's late years his team became better.. Walter payton played with a pro bowl qb once which was jim mchanon in the 1985 season, and you know? their qb was half blind. barry scored a td once every 135 post season touches..
@itsmybunny1 What? you must have never seen him play the bears, bucs packers. You can't average 1500 yds per season and have 14 consecutive 100 yd games average 5 yds per game if you can't run in outdoor weather. so that argument makes no sense. The Bears in 1985 were known more for their defense most consider it the greatest defense ever. It takes a team to win especially in the playoffs and make it to the super bowl just ask Dan Marino and all the other great players without great teams.
@edpoker69 Sanders, the Lions went 0-4 in outdoor playoff games, losing by an average of 17 points. In December of 1994, Barry ran for 188 yards in a win over Green Bay. One month later in the playoffs, Barry - against the same team, with the same offense - rushes for -1 yard.
Once Sanders got to the big stage, and got out of the Silverdome, he was useless. Compare that to the legendary playoff games of Emmitt Smith, Walter Payton, Jim Brown... hell, even Thurman Thomas,
You can't say that Jim brown was a better runner because the times are not the same if Emmit was playing in Jim brown's time he would have score a TD every time the same goes for Berry times change so Jim brown does not belong in the same field
@acedeep123 being the rushing champ, nfl mvp, superbowl mvp in one season.. underrated? I respect your opinion but i believe that Mr. Smith got the recognition that he deserved.
@haney63 Jim Brown had 5.2 yards a carry and Barry Sanders had 5.0 a carry, they just had a shorter season because of their own decisions, they were better halfbacks, and Barry Sanders did it with a line that was 10x worse then Emmit's, you can have your opinion but Jim Brown and Barry Sanders were def. better
@xXxFB4LxXx yeah he was a beast, he's either 3rd or 4th, him and Emmit are interchangeable, like Jim Brown and Barry Sanders are interchangeable also for 1st and 2nd
I don't know about that... I think Barry, Jim, and Walter are easily interchangeable for 1st... Think about it Emmit took more time, with a better team, to do what Walter did. I say 1. Payton/Sanders/Brown 2. Smith
i love how TO celebrated on the dallas star, and then the no class emmit smith did it too, just to be silenced by TO, getting another score and winning the game, doing it again on the dallas star... lol and then dallas hired TO... COWBOYS SUCK!!!!!!!!!!
@juangllrdo I love how you can say emmit has no class, but T O is okay for celebrating on the star, lol. At least Emmit was on his own field. And you can call him no class all you want, but ask any of dozens of charities in texas about how classy he is.
@juangllrdo youre a dumb bitch.emmitt would score and go to a knee to giv god the glory which is who deserves it.t.o. disrespected his team so he got him back.and then teague fucked t.o. uppppp the next time lol
Better at picking up the blitz, catching outta the backfield and running at the goaline... nuff said.. plus three SUPERBOWL rings don't hurt either...
@MJOLNIR78 Lets not forget Emmitt had maybe the greatest o-line ever... Barry is the G.O.A.T!!!! Barry would of broke the all time rushig record in 11 yrs, 12 tops. With a horriable o-line, what did it take Emmitt 15 or 16 yrs, with a great o-line.. Nuff said!!
Someone needs to put together a 50 minute video of all of Emmitts runs. Then people would see why he's a WINNER. With good real music.. none of this lame shit hop.
no matter what videos with emmitt smith seem to be very fuckkin insperational im a football player in highschool and when i watch his videos they make me wanna try harder and harder
Vigorous Ice Blue Eyes (V.I.B.E.) is a teenage hip hop duo who are inspired by Linkin Park, Fort Minor, and Eminem among others. They don't have blue eyes, or icy ones for the matter. They would appreciate your feedback or criticism or hate on any of their videos.
If you have a spare moment, check them out at my channel :)
@dallascowboys1111111 the only argument that can be made for barry being better is he averaged more yard per year...but he was also the Lions only weapon...if dallas hadn't have had Irving, Emmitt would have gotten even more touches... but you forget one thing....... BARRY SANDERS QUIT!!! That alone makes him #2 AT BEST, maybe even #3 BEHIND Walter Peyton....
im from philly and i still think hes the shit

jaybirdy22 3 months ago

The Greatest.
braininahat 3 months ago
@braininahat Emmitt hit the holes because you could drive a truck thru them holes half the line were pro bowlers. They were known to have the best offensive line. Yeah Barry holds the record for most negative yards and still averaged 5 yards per carry. That means on his other runs Barry had to average over 7 yds from scrimmage. Emmitt is top five behind Walter Payton & Jim Brown. Barry is not only the greatest running back but the greatest football player ever.
edpoker69 3 months ago
@edpoker69 When you said barry was the greatest football player ever thats a joke. Barry sanders COULD not play in outdoor weather. He didn't get the lions far, or he couldnt catch/block better then walter payton. Payton's team was worse then barry's lions, ofc until payton's late years his team became better.. Walter payton played with a pro bowl qb once which was jim mchanon in the 1985 season, and you know? their qb was half blind. barry scored a td once every 135 post season touches..
itsmybunny1 3 months ago
@itsmybunny1 What? you must have never seen him play the bears, bucs packers. You can't average 1500 yds per season and have 14 consecutive 100 yd games average 5 yds per game if you can't run in outdoor weather. so that argument makes no sense. The Bears in 1985 were known more for their defense most consider it the greatest defense ever. It takes a team to win especially in the playoffs and make it to the super bowl just ask Dan Marino and all the other great players without great teams.
edpoker69 3 months ago

DivisonOneBro 4 months ago
@DivisonOneBro no way, he has the most rushing yards in NFL history and the most Rushing TD's, def. number 1.
haney63 4 months ago
@haney63 Jim Brown had 5.2 yards a carry and Barry Sanders had 5.0 a carry, they just had a shorter season because of their own decisions, they were better halfbacks, and Barry Sanders did it with a line that was 10x worse then Emmit's, you can have your opinion but Jim Brown and Barry Sanders were def. better
DivisonOneBro 4 months ago
@DivisonOneBro
What about my boy Payton? Man was a straight up BEAST.
xXxFB4LxXx 4 months ago
@xXxFB4LxXx yeah he was a beast, he's either 3rd or 4th, him and Emmit are interchangeable, like Jim Brown and Barry Sanders are interchangeable also for 1st and 2nd
DivisonOneBro 4 months ago
@DivisonOneBro
I don't know about that... I think Barry, Jim, and Walter are easily interchangeable for 1st... Think about it Emmit took more time, with a better team, to do what Walter did. I say 1. Payton/Sanders/Brown 2. Smith
xXxFB4LxXx 4 months ago
@xXxFB4LxXx hahah okay i'll give that reasoning to you too, i love walter payton too so idc, my main point is Emmit is not first lol

i love how TO celebrated on the dallas star, and then the no class emmit smith did it too, just to be silenced by TO, getting another score and winning the game, doing it again on the dallas star... lol and then dallas hired TO... COWBOYS SUCK!!!!!!!!!!

@juangllrdo I love how you can say emmit has no class, but T O is okay for celebrating on the star, lol. At least Emmit was on his own field. And you can call him no class all you want, but ask any of dozens of charities in texas about how classy he is.
danielkimble1972 4 months ago
@juangllrdo youre a dumb bitch.emmitt would score and go to a knee to giv god the glory which is who deserves it.t.o. disrespected his team so he got him back.and then teague fucked t.o. uppppp the next time lol

Nuff said!!

not the greatest the 2nd greatest barry sanders is #1 i mean im a HUGE dallas fan but emmitt is the 2nd best or tied for the number one best
dallascowboys1111111 1 year ago
@dallascowboys1111111 the only argument that can be made for barry being better is he averaged more yard per year...but he was also the Lions only weapon...if dallas hadn't have had Irving, Emmitt would have gotten even more touches... but you forget one thing....... BARRY SANDERS QUIT!!! That alone makes him #2 AT BEST, maybe even #3 BEHIND Walter Peyton....
