did anybody else feel after reading the first godfather book that it was a little rascist when it was describing neri's back story of beating up blacks??
@MrLJSykes411 Yeah it was Kind of, But Neri Isn't Racist because he was trying to protect the Black girl and the Black women that the Pimp tried to beat up. Any other Police officer would've just "Let the niggers eat each other alive". Sonny wasn't A racist either In the Book. He Did Business with the Black People, I think he even slept with a black prostitute sometime in the 30's During that time I guess People had mixed feelings because they were seperated.
@futurebestseller84 There's also another deleted scene (not available on YouTube as far as I know) where Michael kills Fabrizio himself with a shotgun.
@sirrvs sweet. yea i would've liked the idea of Michael personally taking his revenge better than a car bomb. because then he'd know that Michael never forgot about it
@luriomaxx In the book the Godfather, which was different than the movie, Kate resigns herself to pray for Michael's soul. The abortion Michael's wife had in Godfather II is just Francis Coppola overdoing the theatrics and drama.
I thought Francis butchered the Godfather franchise in Godfather III where Michael actually develops a soft heart and seeks redemption and forgiveness, something completely out of character.
Al Neri scene is after michael meets with johnny ola in the beginning. michael mentions he's throwing that guy out of the casino, but thats one of roths guys. So roth has every reason to feel threatened and tries to have michael killed. the rest is history
Heavens to Mario Puzo! THANKS for posting! Cool clips! But I don't think the final cut was hurt at all by not having these deleted scenes in them. Though all are interesting, none of them were necessary to getting the gist of the films (Parts 1 or 2). You've MADE my day & week! CHEERS, mate! :-)
@TheFerrer87 Yeah, I wonder how Gardner Shaw and "His" Family felt when Michael had ot go to Washington, DC fo rthe Senate Hearings. Also, I wonder what Francesca told Gardner about what her Family and what they did for a living. She probably told him that they were in the Hotel Business.
@intheTea04 Yeah, My Uncle was alot like Michael, he was such a terrific guy and even though you wanted your own Parents Blessing, to have his Blessing was just as special since he was admired and respected by so many Family Members.
@TonyB21987 "Make sure her dowry is big. He comes from a family who thinks Italian brides go barefoot." barefoot meaning their dowry is small or non-existant
"this contempt of $ is just another trick of the rich, to keep the poor without it", I love the line almost as much as I love, "the best thing that I can do for the poor is not be one of them".
I remember that scene where Kaye was praying in the church was mentioned in the book. She prays for the soul of Michael. It was the last scene in the book.
Definitely think 3:01-5:36 should of been included in this film. Throughout the whole Godfather 2 we're left in the dark about Sonny's family and there current where-abouts .
and why does he call Fredo a son of a bitch that is swearing at Momma Corleone that is a n insult to Vito Corleone i dont think Micheal would look at it Lightly
@Shelby596 Seriously! I read the novel and was like, what? Fabrizio's death wasn't included in the Godfather film during the ending vengeance/assasination scenes.
My two cents, sonny in the deleted scenes was (imo) very methododical and made decisions based on consensus, not as good as michael but. Fredo, was described like his father as slow but look how he turned out,I think given a chance he would have been another don vito
@snuff612 Fredo was also described in the novel as doting too much on his father and lacking in vital fprce necessary to become leader of men.Witness his total breakdown and uselessness when vito gets shot!
The scene with al neri in the casino refers to the other scene where Pat Geary is at Micheal Jr.s first communion meeting with Micheal Sr. and asking him to pay 250000 for the gaming license.
@ThePlayGoer Yeah, I did too. And I got a kick where Freddie interrupts them all telling them excitedly that Frankie 'Five Angels' Pentangele is there. One other thing, Francesca should have gotten her Uncle Fredo's blessing to marry that guy too.
Fabrizio didn't actually want to kill apollonia, he was jelouse of Michael for marrying her and he put the bomb in the car to kill Michael. But apologia wanted to drive the car to Michael, setting the bomb off.
Very interesting point megaovserver about nery. I have a question n is how micheal find out that the friend from Miami hymen rott was the one who wants to kill him after what it happened at michral's parry in the beginning of the movie godfather 2?
@MrRopedragon No, that was Rocco in the book and the movie. The book has Neri's backstory as a cop who was fired because he beat up neighborhood punks. Michael heard the story, got Neri released from jail and recruited him to replace Luca Brasi.
@MrRopedragon - don't think so, Michael found Neri once he became boss. Paulie was killed before Michael was boss. In the movie, it was Rocco. I think that is the same from the book.
The Twins are so beautiful. However, they must have been furious that their parts were cut. Also, in GF3 weren't the Adult Twins The Same Girls featured in GF1
The scene with Al Neri is where they forced Klingman out......at the Communion party , when Senator Geary told Michael off behind closed doors he brought up the rumor of the Corleone family of forcing Klingman out and expanding, but Geary planned on extorting Michael....I always wondered why they left the Neri / Klingman scene out.....Klingman got Michael CorleOWNED!! XD
I saw the re-edit for TV 20 years ago, which included the revenge on Fabrizio. Nobody seems to remember Al Neri, yet he plays an important part in all 3 films as Pacino's bodyguard. He's the one who "ends" the first film by closing the door on Kay, the one who executes Fredo in the second, etc. etc.
kolatian about your question, Anyone knows where refers the scene with Al Neri? You mean in the book? All I remember is that he just was there in GF part 2. I think he was suppose to be Michaels Luca Brasi.
I swear to you guys. You're all so brilliant with your analysis. Sometimes I think that Colleges should have Courses about The History Of The Mafia ie The Corleones & The Sopranos. Also, even though it was a Timepiece, don't you notice that the women are never encouraged to be strong. Kay lost her children for standing up to Michael. Connie was never able to stand on her own two feet, and Sandra (Sonny's Wife) had to put up with his cheating. In the book, he didn't even have a Will.
@Kelly14UK Yeah, I wish they would have had the captions in English for those two scenes. I don't speak Italian so I don't know what they were talking about.
yeah killing fabrizio quickly the way appolonia died is to curteous, they should have tortured him for weeks. She was BEAUTIFUL and the very epitome of innocence.
@saletious Apollonia would, as Carlo said before she died, have made Michael the perfect wife. Being Sicillian, she would have known her role and accepted it without question, unlike Kay. In that respect Vito was lucky in love in that he had the perfect wife, a kind 1915 Apollonia, Michael's mother.
They should've kept the original ending it would've been just as powerfully potent, but I guess they wanted to keep on Michael's descent into the darkness and despair he has built himself around.
Folks - I know some of these may not have appeared in the original theatrical version - but I know I've seen some scenes on video and tv (and I don't mean "extras" or anything - i mean edited into the movie) ...for example - when Frabrizio gets blown up in the car - I've see that tons of times when they run the movie on cable. Just FYI. Sometimes it's hard to know what's the original and wha'ts not (for those of us who never saw it in the theater)
The Al Neri seen probably would have gone after the senator is set up for murder, because they did that to get the license and put their "stunt dummy" in as the owner of the casino.
the al neri/klingman scene is awesome!!!...i love when neri says "you're no longer an owner" with so much confidence. then after klingman clears out neri just sits and watches the rehersal!! neri is such a bad ass!!!
@Obelisk2290 i do agree, luca brasi was THE baddest ass!!..have you read the book? There is stuff in the book about luca did that portrayed him as very violent..especially the part about the baby!! Let me know if you know the part..
@Obelisk2290 i suggest you get the book and check it out. I'm sure that when they made the first Godfather movie they left the Luca stuff out cuz it would have shocked way too many people!! Also the back story in the book about Woltz..another animal but in a different way...check it out..
@JimmyConway60 I haven't read the book, but you know how bad Brasi is from the movie. Michael tells Kay he's a very scary guy. But the real indicator is when Duvall tells Vito he wants to see him. Brando shows why he's such a great here, uncharacteristically anxious, asking, "Is this necessary?" And the scene where Luca's awkwardly delivering his much-rehearsed lines, you see genuine terror in the Don's eyes. Rather like the keeper of a vicious animal who's seen just how dangerous it can be.
@madmax8903 On top of that Vito was probably the only one who could control Luca Brasi. I remember a line where Tom Hagen says even Sonny couldn't control him. That was before Michael had any real power in the family.
they should have kept the scene in 5:38 & the last scene with Fred Vincent, the guy who put the bomb it Michael's Sicilian wife in GF 1.. it completes the missing piece.
PAY ATTENTION EVERYONE, gmlorusso is the same guy as ArnoldSergio1, this guy has made it his lifemission to harrass his fellow youtub:ers. He is just a lousy troll with no purpose in life.
Frankie reminds me of an afro-american. Afro-American have a very similar ethnocentric view when it comes to race. He's mad that Anthony doesn't sicilian. And calls him wasp. He also mad that the band didn't have an Italian member.
@TheEntertainmentonly I hope you realise how racist your views are. Actually, probably you don't. "He reminds me of X's. (All) X's have the same view with regard to Z, Y or W." It's laughable, classic bigotry.
@madmax8903 Good point!!! But I'm speaking from experience as a black man. I'm very liberal, but I'm comparing the common ignorance of racist sicilian and blacks!!! And saying that their very similiar. That's all!!!
@madmax8903 What's racist about it? You sound like one of those self loathing white liberals who believe that only whites can be racists. I have news for you. Racism comes in all shapes and colors.
@madmax8903 Of what Entertainmentonly was saying about Frank Pentangele having the same views as blacks on race. There was nothing racist about what he said at all. But you sound like one of those white liberals who is always looking for any excuse to blame white people of racism. It's b.s. that people like you love to get out that race card and rant about whites, but I'd be willing to bet that all you white liberals make excuses for every other racist.
@ridgerunner721601 And who in hell are you to tell me about my views on race? I certainly don't need you to explain what the guy said or what he meant as he explained all that a month or so back. All I have to say to you is, you must have alot of time to waste to be going over old shit that didn't even concern you.
@bluetires12 Like I've always said. Fredo's smaht. He can handle things. Not dumb like everybody says. He was especially good at picking people up at the airport and running Mickey Mouse nightclubs.....LOL.
@gfscarface13 and your youtube name is gfscarface, obviously loving up the film scarface, Tony Montana played by an italian american actor, Al Pacino... of course they are all murderers and criminals, not you fucking arsehole!!!
My favorite scenes are when Neri threatens Meyer Klingman, Pentangeli is drunk at the head table and bonds with Anthony over a glass of wine, and of course when Fabrizzio meets his judgement for betraying Michael.
I wish they had done Fabrizzo's execution the way it was in the book, where a hit man comes in and asks to see Fabrizzo's distinctive chest tattoo - then Fabrizzo realizes he's done for in about 3 seconds, unlike the car bombing scene.
it's a great scene in the book and would have made a great scene in the movie. I saw somewhere that they filmed the killing two ways. And the second is the way from the book. But I can't find the clip that goes with it.
I think the other way the killing was done was that Michael himself did it with a shotgun, since it was really personal with him. I don't have either one, but it should either be in the Godfather Saga or the Godfather Trilogy...watching Godfather marathon right now on AMC...
Some food for thought. Part 2 ended in the early late 50's. Part 3 took place in the late 70's early 80's. Pacino, Duvall etc still look young enough where they could potentially do a movie that took place in between 2 and 3. I know it will never happen but it's definitely a possibility. In fact, the latest Godfather book, written by someone other than Puzo, does exactly that. This movie could definitely be made if they really wanted to,
they should have put the death of Fabrizio in the final cut, cuz otherwise its just a gapping hole in the line of the first 2 films as if one persn slipped through Michaels fingers. and what would have cost 2 or 3 minutes

@Kelly14UK Yeah, I wish they would have had the captions in English for those two scenes. I don't speak Italian so I don't know what they were talking about.
ridgerunner721601 1 year ago
yeah killing fabrizio quickly the way appolonia died is to curteous, they should have tortured him for weeks. She was BEAUTIFUL and the very epitome of innocence.
saletious 1 year ago
@saletious Apollonia would, as Carlo said before she died, have made Michael the perfect wife. Being Sicillian, she would have known her role and accepted it without question, unlike Kay. In that respect Vito was lucky in love in that he had the perfect wife, a kind 1915 Apollonia, Michael's mother.
madmax8903 1 year ago
@madmax8903 Its Calo not Carlo. You are also right about Apollonia, she was Michael's better wife.
victor4782 7 months ago
they should have kept the scene where michael killed fabrizio for killing apolonia
24Nintendofan89 1 year ago
@drcoxcentral that ending was when they showed the godfather 1 & 2 on tv in the late 70's but as episodes instead of showing the full movies
24Nintendofan89 1 year ago
omg the boy at 7:00 looks like a baby al pacinoooo
Hadeydeppio 1 year ago
They should've kept the original ending it would've been just as powerfully potent, but I guess they wanted to keep on Michael's descent into the darkness and despair he has built himself around.

in the book fabrizio dies another way

and oh yea, and don't fuck with Al Neri !!!
warcamp70 1 year ago 3
Folks - I know some of these may not have appeared in the original theatrical version - but I know I've seen some scenes on video and tv (and I don't mean "extras" or anything - i mean edited into the movie) ...for example - when Frabrizio gets blown up in the car - I've see that tons of times when they run the movie on cable. Just FYI. Sometimes it's hard to know what's the original and wha'ts not (for those of us who never saw it in the theater)

I never get tired of watching The Godfather. Every line of dialog means something!

Bullshit. Fabrizzio's death in the book is 10X better than that crap.

apollonia bombing was hundred thousand times more badass than fabrizio's
urloldude 1 year ago
Actually the scene could have happened before the senator comes to see Michael because the senator says "I hear youre trying to clear Clingman out".
madhash83 1 year ago
The Al Neri seen probably would have gone after the senator is set up for murder, because they did that to get the license and put their "stunt dummy" in as the owner of the casino.
madhash83 1 year ago
the al neri/klingman scene is awesome!!!...i love when neri says "you're no longer an owner" with so much confidence. then after klingman clears out neri just sits and watches the rehersal!! neri is such a bad ass!!!
JimmyConway60 1 year ago
@JimmyConway60 yes bit i think the baddest ass through pure suggestion was luca brassi
Obelisk2290 1 year ago
@Obelisk2290 i do agree, luca brasi was THE baddest ass!!..have you read the book? There is stuff in the book about luca did that portrayed him as very violent..especially the part about the baby!! Let me know if you know the part..
JimmyConway60 1 year ago
@JimmyConway60 been ages
Obelisk2290 1 year ago
@Obelisk2290 i suggest you get the book and check it out. I'm sure that when they made the first Godfather movie they left the Luca stuff out cuz it would have shocked way too many people!! Also the back story in the book about Woltz..another animal but in a different way...check it out..
JimmyConway60 1 year ago
@JimmyConway60 I haven't read the book, but you know how bad Brasi is from the movie. Michael tells Kay he's a very scary guy. But the real indicator is when Duvall tells Vito he wants to see him. Brando shows why he's such a great here, uncharacteristically anxious, asking, "Is this necessary?" And the scene where Luca's awkwardly delivering his much-rehearsed lines, you see genuine terror in the Don's eyes. Rather like the keeper of a vicious animal who's seen just how dangerous it can be.
madmax8903 1 year ago
@madmax8903 On top of that Vito was probably the only one who could control Luca Brasi. I remember a line where Tom Hagen says even Sonny couldn't control him. That was before Michael had any real power in the family.
ridgerunner721601 1 year ago
The first one i suppose is supposed to be the ending to it, it was in the book how kay lights candles for michael
hewearspants 1 year ago
they should have kept the scene in 5:38 & the last scene with Fred Vincent, the guy who put the bomb it Michael's Sicilian wife in GF 1.. it completes the missing piece.

What is FrankP saying to young Anthony at the communion? Does he reference having two kids of his own in Sicily?
donmule 1 year ago
Frankie reminds me of an afro-american. Afro-American have a very similar ethnocentric view when it comes to race. He's mad that Anthony doesn't sicilian. And calls him wasp. He also mad that the band didn't have an Italian member.
TheEntertainmentonly 1 year ago
@TheEntertainmentonly I hope you realise how racist your views are. Actually, probably you don't. "He reminds me of X's. (All) X's have the same view with regard to Z, Y or W." It's laughable, classic bigotry.
madmax8903 1 year ago
@madmax8903 Good point!!! But I'm speaking from experience as a black man. I'm very liberal, but I'm comparing the common ignorance of racist sicilian and blacks!!! And saying that their very similiar. That's all!!!
TheEntertainmentonly 1 year ago
@madmax8903 What's racist about it? You sound like one of those self loathing white liberals who believe that only whites can be racists. I have news for you. Racism comes in all shapes and colors.
ridgerunner721601 1 year ago
@ridgerunner721601 You again? What's this in reference to and just what in hell are you daring to accuse me of?
madmax8903 1 year ago
@madmax8903 Of what Entertainmentonly was saying about Frank Pentangele having the same views as blacks on race. There was nothing racist about what he said at all. But you sound like one of those white liberals who is always looking for any excuse to blame white people of racism. It's b.s. that people like you love to get out that race card and rant about whites, but I'd be willing to bet that all you white liberals make excuses for every other racist.
ridgerunner721601 1 year ago
@ridgerunner721601 And who in hell are you to tell me about my views on race? I certainly don't need you to explain what the guy said or what he meant as he explained all that a month or so back. All I have to say to you is, you must have alot of time to waste to be going over old shit that didn't even concern you.
madmax8903 1 year ago
Some great scenes with Frank Pentangalies could have been kept...but I gotta say, everything else they pulled I agree 100%

These films prove it. Its Fact.

My favorite scenes are when Neri threatens Meyer Klingman, Pentangeli is drunk at the head table and bonds with Anthony over a glass of wine, and of course when Fabrizzio meets his judgement for betraying Michael.
lingling86 1 year ago
Neri had a weird voice in that movie. Just didn't "project" right or whatever.

jamesgranger1978 2 years ago
...then again, it was poetic justice that Fabrizzo dies the same way Appolina did...
mulehead126 2 years ago 5
I wish they had done Fabrizzo's execution the way it was in the book, where a hit man comes in and asks to see Fabrizzo's distinctive chest tattoo - then Fabrizzo realizes he's done for in about 3 seconds, unlike the car bombing scene.
mulehead126 2 years ago 5
it's a great scene in the book and would have made a great scene in the movie. I saw somewhere that they filmed the killing two ways. And the second is the way from the book. But I can't find the clip that goes with it.
whofan77 1 year ago
@whofan77
I think the other way the killing was done was that Michael himself did it with a shotgun, since it was really personal with him. I don't have either one, but it should either be in the Godfather Saga or the Godfather Trilogy...watching Godfather marathon right now on AMC...
mulehead126 1 year ago
@mulehead126
Yeah, Michael walks into his pizzaria, gets him to show the tatoo, and then shoots him with a lupara.

he so is it in the trilogy version
inari127 1 year ago
@mulehead126 Nah. This one is actually better. He dies the way Apollonia dies.
scipioinde 1 year ago
Some food for thought. Part 2 ended in the early late 50's. Part 3 took place in the late 70's early 80's. Pacino, Duvall etc still look young enough where they could potentially do a movie that took place in between 2 and 3. I know it will never happen but it's definitely a possibility. In fact, the latest Godfather book, written by someone other than Puzo, does exactly that. This movie could definitely be made if they really wanted to,
