I remember seeing these guys as an opener for "now I forget" but they were so bizarre, but fantastic! Great memory. I think growing up with KROQ made me a bit skewed! lol
and one thing I remember from the concert was Sue sang the entire night with her head and face covered by a white veil .... the SL's were so awesome !!!
wow, I never thought I'd ever hear this song again. It was banned I guess by whoever owned the rights to the movie "Gidget" ... the singles were removed from the shelves at the record stores and the band was not able to perform it again. I saw them in concert and kept screaming "GIDGET" at the top of my lungs the whole concert but no dice. One of the guys actually said back to me "Gidget is dead" ... my only version was a recording from the radio but I lost the tape, I was so heartbroken .. lol
The girl at 0:11 is Kathy Kohner, the actual girl who was the subject of her father's book, Gidget, the Littlle Girl With Big Ideas. She's in her 60's and a college professor these days.
Surprised they had a video also! The Romantics are playing next week at Hollywood park racetrack.I remember over 25 years ago ,Surburban lawns opened for them in Pasadena .(fun in the mash pit)
Su at her most deliciously deranged! I grew up in So Cal in the early '80's. New Wave was everywhere. Lucky me. I have great nolstalgia for that era.
I heard this in LA when it first came out - when New Wave was brand new. I went nuts... a guy (ahem) I know bought the 45 RPM for me and I played it on my record player 15 times in a row.
KROQ--what would we have done without you???

I never, ever thought the Lawns would have a video on youtube, but here it is. Maybe, just maybe, there is a little bit of hope left in the world.
