  • David Russell is 'music made man'

  • Astounding. And this is is LIVE for chrissakes. No mistakes and not even a hint of finger noise. Pure clean musical bliss.

Is it just me or does Maestro Russel seem to have the inane technical ability of Williams combined with the brilliant musicality of Bream?

It's such a shame that most people have never heard of him.

  • @GaleoDeus couldn't agree more with you in terms of the Williams/Bream comment... David Russell's got it going on

  • I saw him when he was 'up and coming' playing in a church hall in Richmond, VA. My guitar teacher had him stay over at his house while David was in town. My teacher told me I should go to the show because this guy was going to be a concert star. After I heard him play, I understood.

Then a few years later he was in town again at a bigger venue. And after that he became David Russell, international star. But he was just as soft spoken and accessible as he appears on stage.

  • @blackdogxx He still is. He was just at my school for two weeks and he's just a really nice guy that happens to be the best in the world

  • Awesome performance! The guitar sounds absolutely huge. The music of Weiss has been growing on me over the past few years. Thank you for posting this video.

  • he is such a guitar god

  • David's playing is pure magic. 3 master classes I have with him that I performed in. Such a great teacher as well. This suite I love. I'm very drawn to any of S.L. Weiss' compositions. Time to start picking up the classical again.

  • There are many accomplished guitarrist, active and retired, but D. Russells grasp on renaissance music and its ornaments sets him apart and makes him rather unique.

Anyone who plays the guitar can fathom how excruciatingly difficult this is....

  • David can do anything,Baroque,Romantic,Modern..you name it,he can play it with such exellence and flair..you go David!!

  • devilishly talented...Thank you David...

  • i love this--Russel is a monster!

i bet it would work on cello..i think ill transcribe some for cello!

  • i fall in love when David Russell plays S.L.Weiss

  • EPIC

  • Breath taking performance.... you are my idol David

  • Amazing playing! Absolute perfection!

  • Genial David. Es una pena que Weiss sea tan desconocido fuera del mundo de los guitarristas, porque su música es impresionante.

  • incredible

  • delightfull

an exquisit piece, with the very best interpretation of the maistro himself, a glourious monument to barroque music, and most capable bard composer, Silvyous Weiss !!

  • hi folks! since some of you asked for the sheet -> check slweiss com -> work -> transcriptions; this suite is No. XIII in the London manuscript.

    enjoy!

  • absolutely marvelous...

  • Marvellous guitarist ! marvellous Weiss !

    Bravo !!! many thanks

  • Great ornamentation and interpretation, Russell in Baroque style... no words...

  • je suis totalement admiratif devant un tel talent!!

  • geez, i want to learn guitar with him. So neat, not to mention the great sound.

  • He has the most economical right hand I've ever seen.

  • Your comment is spot-on.

  • my thinking exactly. best right hand in the business. check out the last scale in barrios opus 8 #4. baddass..

  • best guitarist.

  • Amazing

  • I've heard him many times, live and otherwise. This is some of the best I've heard. He has tremendous feel for this music. Stunning.

  • Does anybody knows the luthier who made his guitar?

  • It is a German luthier, Matthias Damman

  • David Russell is great!

  • david- eres genial. seguramente weiss estaría orgulloso de tu forma de tocar sus obras.desde argentina saludos

  • Salve Maestro david Russell. He is not only one of the greatest in all history but a great human being on stage, very charismatic.

  • That's very true, I can confirm that as well. His master classes are mind boggling, he has so much to say it's almost overwhelming.

  • why is he unable to play rest stroke? I notice his positioning is like a lute players, is there a reason he doesn't stick hiw thumb out more?

  • His thumb is articulated at the distal (last) joint which gives him his great dynamic control. This is an idea from Aguado. It does however mean that apoyando is not possible because of the angle of the thumb. Try it and it will become clear. Yes just like a lute. Nice to see you actually look with your eyes as well as your ears.

  • He doesn't stick his thumb out more because then it's very hard to damp a string and at the same time prepare for hitting the string below the first one (check out his website). I think it's very easy to play a rest stroke with the same technique, and if I'm able to do it, I don't think that DR could have any problems doing it=). Cheers!

  • Roby, your name is really Roby? Just like Tom Cruise's son in "War of the worlds"(2005)Amazing!!

  • Please somebody tell me what suite is this!! Number, code, opus, etc.

    Thanks!

  • You can find it (in modern notation, based on the British Museum manuscript) as the num. XIV in the "Intavolatura di Liuto" by Ruggero Chiesa ed. Suvini Zerboni (ESZ. 8217). It is NOT cheap: about 260€

  • Ok Roby, thanks for the information. It's a beautiful suite. It really costs about 260€? Is a little pricey. But still sounds goog

  • Hola:

Felicidades por este nuevo canal. Me mantendré pendiente de qué es lo nuevo que agregan. Felicidades a David por ser tan buen artista.
