  • Anybody know how to get the pixel grid in Photoshop Elements 9? I am greatly puzzled :/

  • Awesome video!

So you are using mac like me..... so how do you video this?

  • what size was the original pic???

  • Zelda <3

  • I have no pixel grid option

  • I have no Pixel Grid on...

  • Tyler's hawt!

  • nice video

  • This isn't really creating a pixel art portrait as much as it is lowering the resolution of an image, then sharpening certain features to not make it look like a garbled mess. Not to sound like a dick or anything, but I kinda clicked on this video for some tips to help me get a result sort of like what iloveui does from the ground up, and this video more of just toying with the pencil tool and tracing a photograph.

  • Excelent!! you help me a lot! thanks, luv ya! :D

  • you are an effective teacher! the way you talk, your voice, oh lovely! :) btw i like the background music too! tnx XD

  • how do i resize the image after pasting it onto the document?

  • @11pianokid ⌘ + T (Mac) or Ctrl + T (Win) to free transform!

  • OOO yeah time for some minecraft

  • Great!!

  • You are creative, beautiful, smart and play videogames... You must be a dream.

  • @Veehmot Thank you. :)

  • For those asking about Photoshop CS3, go to View > Show > Grid and ensure your grid is turned on. Then I think you can customize the grid here:

(Windows) Choose Edit > Preferences > Guides, Grid, Slices & Count

(Mac OS) Choose Photoshop > Preferences > Guides, Grid, Slices & Count

And choose a gridline every 1px. This should mimic the effect of a pixel grid.

  • Woah, thank you so much. Your voice is amazing and it helped me alot :)

  • @TheCssFan Oh, thank you! So happy it helped. :)

  • @middaylatte By the way, I have CS5.1, and I cannot find the Pixel Grid. I'd really need that. Do you know what to do? :)

  • @TheCssFan I have the same version—Pixel Grid is under View > Show > Pixel Grid, right above the 3D section of the menu.

  • @middaylatte Hmm, wierd. It says "Notifications" or something =/. I'll try to fix it. I have the Swedish version, I don't know if that has something to do with it. Wierd thing though is that I haven't already subscribed to you :o!

  • @middaylatte Nevermind, I fixed it :)

You're amazing, thank you so much :D

  • @TheCssFan No problem! How did you fix it? A few other viewers seem to have the same issue, so your solution may help them. :)

  • @middaylatte I'll send you a PM when I get home, I'm at school at the moment :)

  • @TheCssFan Just post it here! That way others can see. :)

  • @middaylatte Yeah I could just do that. Though I had too many homeworks yesterday :/

    I'll post it today, I promise :)

  • @middaylatte Okay, steps:

This is for windows only.. I think.

    1) View > Show

    2) Click the one that says "Grid" on it.

    3) When you've done that, go to Prefrences. (Edit > Preferences). I don't know how to do with MAC.

    4) Click the one that says "Guides, Grids, & Slices"

    5) Then on the Grid section, where it says "Gridline every ..." type in 1.

    6) Where it should probably say cm, change that to pixels.

Congratulations, you now have a pixel grid :)

  • Not only can this also be done in GIMP, a free and open source alternative to photoshop, you can also save that hour of coloring in with a helpful feature. Create your palette of colors as a palette within the program. Go to Image>Mode>Indexed and choose "Use Custom Palette." You'll get the hour long re-coloring step done in seconds.

  • i like the song! :P

  • Is there away I could do this without using Photoshop?

  • holy shit! this is cool and oddly enough my bf ismael showed me this!

  • I have cs5 and no pixel grid. is it because i have the german version or what?

  • I like your voice :3

  • @xMUKxm Thank you! :3

  • I don't have pixel grid option :/ I'm using cs3 :( help, please?

  • @venessajr Get new versions

  • this is much easier and much better youtube.com/watch?v=cY_1G5MTfvQ&feature=related

  • pardon me, but there is no option (pixel grid) in view. how can i enable this option?

  • you drew some sort of grey chess pattern on his foreheads, cheeks and chin.

is this necessary? I don't think that there are shadows that should be there :S

oh, and thx a lot for this tutorial =) it's awesome. and very understandable ^^

  • @HabitsOfANewHome I can't remember if I mention it in the video, but the checkered pattern was because I didn't select my color palette well enough and ended up having to use that to mimic the effect of an in-between color. Totally my fault; it's something better reserved for shading. :) You're welcome for the tutorial! :D

  • @middaylatte that makes sense, thx again, Allison.

  • what song is that in the background?

  • @guvenman Chiptune-y Zelda theme. :)

  • Great tutorial, your explanation, your nice and happy voice, the background music, and most of all, the pixelated result, everything is really combining into a very interesting video that meets its goal. Thank you very much for sharing this with us! Take care and keep up the good work!

  • @MecchaMatt Yay! Thank you so much! So happy it helped. :)

  • @k1dpoison Thats because shes using CS5, you probably have an older version of Photoshop

  • @suspekt29 nope, im using cs5. and also when i use the pencil tool, it draws 2 pixels horizontally, not 1 :(

  • @k1dpoison No idea. I have CS5 and it was there and on CS3 it wasn't so I assumed it was a feature on a latest revision. I have Master Collection version. Maybe check to see if you need a app update?
