Did the cat sleep in boxes as a kitten? I had a cat that used to do the same thing with a small basket. He slept in it as a kitten, but when he grew big, he would still try to squeeze into it.

Try this, it worked with my Aunt's cats. Clear off a table and put 1 sticky note in the center. My Aunt's cats used to try and fit all of themselves on that one little piece of paper.
