Holy shit there is some debate going on here about murder and file sharing,, have a good old laugh here. murder NO. file sharing yes. support by going to gigs. the artists will get enough money from the word of mouth we pass from file sharing. music like this is better spread underground as this music is underground! you get me. ha ha fucking suckers
I totally agree. Musicians make way more money on tour, fuck the music industry. Most of today's artists would never have been found were it not for the internet and file sharing.
My theory is that you are two people on the internet who just want to do philosophical battle to see who has the biggest e-penis. Chill out. Enjoy the track.
i think the thing is that people are less aware of what they are doing because it is via computer, which makes it harder to see the morales in there... that means that they dont actually interact with the person they are taking the music from..
minaranjo - while I agree with your point to a great degree, I am afraid that you are dealing in absolutes which weakens your point somewhat. Of course file sharing is theft but many artists also use morally debatable methods to distribute their tracks in the first place. This very website is one of the key players in this practice. It may be illegal but it is socially acceptable hence the reason almost all of us do it. Have you never copied a tune from cd or recorded a movie from the tv?
i guess i might've gone overboard by talking about theft, crime, judges, etc. I wasn't trying to persuade people into being law-abiding citizens, I was trying to convince people that you should pay the artist if you like their music. like a token of appreciation; patronage of the arts! that's all. =)
man id buy it, i have there latest and its god... my opinion is everything should be downloadable... but at a shit quality... if you like it go buy it
if you want to download rare dance tunes. download soulseek. go to google type it in and download it. it takes a while to download the songs but its worth it. its what us dj's use if we dont have the funds to keep buying new mp3
why would anyone do that? if someone approached you in the street and set two sets of car keys in your hand to a new ferrari. then they said you can have the left set of keys which gives you a free ferrari or the right set of keys which you have to pay £110 000 for. what set of keys would you take?
does the left-key ferrari belong to the person who's giving it away? if they do, then yes, i'd love a new ferrari. but that's not the case with soulseek, where someone else has decided to illicitly distribute unlicensed files - that would be more like stealing the ferrari and giving it to someone. again, if you like the music, honor the artist and pay him. Fortunately for those who do the right thing, the price isn't 110,000 pounds... it's about $1.50.
No what soulseek offers is that someone has bought the artists files and there sharing their files with you. so if my mate buys a a snickers and shares it with me does that mean im stealing from the shopkeeper?
First of all, you don't know if the person who's sharing the file bought it legitimately or got it from someone else on soulseek. secondly, the snickers example is just as inaccurate as the ferrari example. if your mate buys a CD, makes a copy of it and gives (or uploads) it to you, then yes, you would be stealing and your mate would be an accessory to a crime.
but thats the thing on a c.d it states that copyright infringment is a crime. but having a mp3 those guidelines arent really outlined.
Plus if i am in close contact with the users of soulseek that i get my mp3's from and know there purchasing it from a legitimate mp3 store, beatport etc then realy it just comes down to whats morally correct... to you obviously you have to pay for everything in the world whereas i believe i speak for most when i say whats wrong with getting something for free?
nothing's wrong with getting something for free... except when you get it at the expense of someone else. in this case, the artist. by the way, i didn't give you the thumbs down on your comment, in case you were the one who gave me the thumbs down on each of mine! :P
Indeed.. when i play there music it kinda acts like advertising when i download music for free and then get payed for djing in a club it increases my profit margin. Most songs i get i pay for.. because i have to usually because there just released. O rite... apolagises
I find that comment a tad crass i must say. Many people pay a great deal of money for their music and i am no exception to this however, i also dip in to soulseek and others for some free stuff. There is nothing wrong with expanding your collection with people willing to share with you. Surely having access to really good quality house music enables those who know to escape from the mass produced commercial electronic clap trap being peddled to the masses?
Saying "there is Nothing wrong with expanding your collection with people willing to share with you," is obviously missing the point. "People willing to share" do not have the right to distribute the files, just like a chop shop has no right to sell you a stolen car. And the idea that only "mass produced commerical music" is available for legal purchase is absolute hogwash, regardless of how eloquently you'd like to state it.
Would that not mean that you are then taking away a human beings right of choice? Someone will choose to share a file, someone will choose to purchase a stolen car the same way someone will choose to purchase any item through legal means e.g. their musical taste or the car the would like to drive. It is "hogwash" to suggest that i am unaware that commercial music is not available via illegal means, my point there is commercial electronic music is "hogwash" or did you miss that?
"Right of choice?" Are you saying that people have a right to choose theft? Maybe they have a right to choose to murder someone as well. Should we respect those choices or prosecute them?
Let me rephrase my second point: The idea that only "mass produced commercial music" and not underground music, or any other music, is not available for legal purchase, is erroneous. Don't tell me "you stole it 'cause you couldn't find it at the store." I won't believe you, and neither will a judge.
You see my young charger that is where you are wrong. Some people do chose to murder i am afraid, wrong but reality. Society is such that this type of practice exists. It is up to those of us with the inteligence to differentiate between what is extreme and unjust to live a relatively peaceful life. To associate file sharing with murder is naive officer minaranjo. If you take away choice from society then what do you have? The answer...Fascism.
No, actually, you are the one who happens to be wrong. I associated file sharing and murder because they both happen to be crimes against your treasured society. By no means am I equating the two. I happen to have enough intelligence to distinguish between oppression (fascism) and the protection of property rights. And by the way, what exacty is the difference between the extreme and the unjust?
