  • “Your drunk in the alley, with your clothes all torn, and your late night friends have left you for the cold grey dawn - there’s just so many flies around you (hangers on/groupies), and I just can’t brush them off”

    Sad stuff

  • It’s about the late Brian Jones, and Jagger’s efforts to get him off heroine. Written in the late 1960s when Brian was still in the band.

  • Jagger virtually recorded this by himself in LA, with the legendary Organ player Billy Preston. The rest of the band didn’t play on it. Maybe a few overdubs at a later date.

  • Bieber jewelry jangling down the street..

  • Listen to that majestic and glorious piano.

  • This just gives me chills it's so beautiful.

  • There are no others like the Stones.

  • When you're drunk. In the alley with clothes all torn. And your late night friends leave ya in the cold gray dawn.

  • I've said it before...A WAY OF LIFE.

  • My all time favorite! so much emotions can come up from this perfect song!

  • This song is so glorious... I always thought I loved the version from the movie "Shine A Light" the best but listening to this now it's really close.

  • perfect tribute to Brian;although they will never admit it - Jagger and Richards both loved Brian deeply

  • @Spiderrico123 hmmm never thought about it in that way..

  • poor brian.....

  • Maybe I don't really wanna know~

  • aww shit i remember these days but you don't hear

  • @georgeion58 Yes definitely. Brian was very important. Taylor (in my opinion) was the best guitar player they had (other than Richards obviously). Their best work is in that period between '69 and '78. Most of which was with Mick Taylor on guitar. Ronnie is good but it's just not the same . They should go back to their late "60's and early "70's sound. I prefer that much better to the way they sound now. Even their live stuff could use some of that more raw sound

  • 24 people doesn't have a light to shine on them

  • @DarkAngelEU Yeah all the bullshit like Justin Beiber and Nicki Monaj just isn't my bag. There is actually some good bands out these days like The Fratellis and The Gaslight Anthem. But still no one can touch The Stones, Young, Zeppelin, Chuck Berry etc. All my buddies come to my house I say "Hey have you downloaded the new Nickelback album?" I simply say "no but I got the new Neil Young on vinyl. Care for a listen?" THey listen and then become absorbed with the new music. Cant beat the classics

  • favourite rolling stones song

  • thumbs up if you miss Brian Jones :'(

  • i have the luck that i've seen them in a concert,

my god, the best group ever.

Mick Jagger's voice is just amazing when you listen him singing, bff.

I've got no words for this group really, (L)

and i'm only 19 and I will never give up on good music !

  • @coloenexceso 19 too and took words ouy of my mouth

  • Loooooooooove this song! <3

  • thanx for sharing cheers

  • This was a tribute song to Brian Jones. 28th February 1942 - 3rd Julyt 1969! RIP Brian Jones!

  • Thanks I just slapped the Andy Warhol, designed 'Mick's Mouth', here on about 50 mugs for our golf meet in St.Tropez next week!

    Appreciated...was lookin for a good,solid image for a week now...Hugs,Gemma

  • The First Lyrics on describes me perfectly at this time Thankk Youuu, JESUSSSS!

  • my favorite song in the world... might not be perfect, might not be ingenious, might not even be good, but it sure as hell is the only song in the world that makes me wanna dance and cry at the same time!!

  • Happy 10/09!!!!!!!

  • an all times masterpiece

  • Literally, stretched out in Room 1009 in Ocean City, Maryland, Nice!

  • If it wasnt for this song then Live Forever would never be recorded "may the good lord shine a light on you" to "maybe, i dont really wanna know" good old noel! Great track anyway :)

  • @TheLaughingGamer

This has nothing to do with Live Forever mate... possibly lyrically attached but musically miles away..

  • @Rockstar25062889 You're not thinking like a person who writes songs though, usually the influence is something abstract and more that it hits something inside of you that makes you create something. Not so much about copying the music exactly.

  • @Rockstar25062889

Well, other than the fact that Noel Gallacher ripped it off. Or "was influenced by it" as he puts it

  • Maybe, I don't really wanna know...

  • awesome

  • 978 801

  • This song was always high up there in my Stones song list. I love the way it seems to build up its musical energy (tension?). Ever greater urgency and emotion as it comes to "come on up now, come on up now...", then the climax. Just one hell of an orgasmic experience - musically, that is. I never tire of this song. If You Really Want To Be My Friend is another one that appeals to me in a similar way. A great line of song.

  • RIP Brian Jones and may the light shine on you forever.

  • i think its "make your bloodshot eyes at every woman you meet" he changed it after brian jones died. great song :)

  • May the good Lord shine a light on you

Make every song you sing your favorite tune. Enough said.

  • this version really sucks compared to the version that is on the STRIPPED album.

  • Hi Everyone I am Mike I have known Keith since I was 16 I am now 47. I have one of the larfest stones collections as it's the most diverse. I have anything you can think of. From All Gerard Mankowitz Books By Genessis Books Like "Crossfire Hurricane" & "Blinds & Shutters" & I-Contact all with "Brian Jones" I have all 30 stones monthly's in mint & many reare albums and first pressing londonn releases "Some Girls from Holland in Orange Vinyl satanic 3D I am selling things. MickDeC1@aol.com

  • Shit....bands these days just don't make music like they used to. The 60's-80's was such a spectacular era in rock music

  • @sailormuppz Totally agree! Music was so much better back then because it was raw talent without the computerized editing and music nowadays is too focused on how much money a song can make

  • @sailormuppz The 60's bands didn't make music like the 30's bands either. It's called evolution, sure it may appear to be a shitty devolution but it's change none the less.

  • i like Queen best but i have to say this different in a good way.I get the sense that it makes me relax, and not just this song but all their songs which i've listened.

  • was at a discotheque and the dj decided to play this as a closer to dispatch the crowd and cool everything down, witch worked because everyone stopped dancing, except for one bamboo, me !

  • Without question the best song that no one even heard about until the Scorsese movie

  • @Compass427 what scorsese movie was this from?

  • @steelerfandan He made a documentary about the Rolling Stones called "Shine a Light." It's basically a big concert and it's amazing. You will like it if you like the Stones.

  • At the risk of sounding like an old fogey (64),

the young fella below is right. They DON'T

make'm like this anymore. These guys were

the best, with apologies to Led Zep, the Beatles,

et al. They made gutshot music!

  • @MultiDKenny Im 31 been listening to stones all my life modern music cant touch this, hope u live long n never stop listening!

  • Good ol room 1009

  • RIP Brian Jones. :(

  • the rolling stones are single handedly rock n roll

  • The song is great and all... But there's something about that "Stones-.logo" - the one with the tongue - that I really like. That's what I call a "hot" logo and it get my blood pumping... :)

Sorry to all you that don't know what the .... I'm talking about, it's private joke, OK? :)

  • I need Rolling Stones very today...!

  • 18 dislikes ??? whats wrong with people ???

  • The stones are and always will be the greatest band ever. They don't make music like this anymore. It drives me crazy going to high school having to listen to all the music my peers are listening to. I will always remember putting in my parents copy of sticky fingers for the first time about 5 years ago when I was all of 10 years old. May the good lord shine a light on you Mick, Keith, Ronnie and Charlie

  • @TheSizzors you're right, bud. Classic bands have become a rare thing these days

  • @TheSizzors yea but don't forget to mention Mr. Taylor for without him not sticky fingers or exile or any of their greatest albums would exist and Brian Jones for without him the stones wouldn't be there for us!

  • @TheSizzors i hate going to school and kids making fun of me cuz i like the beatles and rolling stones.

  • @hailfire101 you got one up on all the tv programmed masses who laugh at you.... high school is such a short time in ones life... its really not that important... you will see... good music is timeless.. this mass produced computer enhanced music they sell to us these days cant shine a candle on these guys... keep on listening to the greats..... you got it

  • @hailfire101 whaaaaaaaaaat they do that , WTF

  • @TheSizzors

Nostalgia is a powerful emotion. The Stones were popular with teenage girls in the 1960s and 1970s. It's not as if they were this super cool, obscure, hip band. They were mainstream. Pop music.

It just so happens that pop in the 1970s, sounds pretty damn cool now.............

What I'm saying is, in 20 years time, your kids will probably be listening to bands from 2011, saying how cool they were.

  • @TheSizzors

All humans are biologically programmed to think that everything that happened 30 years before they were born is "classic" and everything of their own era sucks ass..........

I did it myself in the 1980s. You know, I thought Prince and Michael Jackson, and The Smiths, and The Clash were terrible. They're classic now.

Truth is, if you're great you're great - it sometimes just takes a while for everyone to catch up with it.

  • @TheSizzors Like you, I was listening to Jimmy Hendrix at 15, years after the guy was buried. Good music endures forever.

  • @TheSizzors Hmm where was ronnie when sticky fingers was made? NO WHERE.. Remember Mick Taylor and Brian Jones without them Stones would be nothing

  • @georgeion58 This track is from Exile not Sticky Fingers. Gram Parsons, who was at Nellcote during the recording of Exile, was an important influence too, particularly with regards this song I suspect. His track 'A Song for You', which also has religious overtones, is particularly marvellous. So is his take on Wild Horses, from Sticky Fingers but released by Gram’s band, The Flying Burrito Brothers, the previous year:

  • @IvanTheReasonable i know this is one exile but since he mentioned sticky fingers i had to answer back with the same reference anyways, Mick was a lead guitarist and not any crew member in other words he deserves atleast equal respect to the other main members of the stones

  • @georgeion58 Indeed he does but Bill Wyman doesn't!

  • they just don't make music like this anymore

  • beautiful

  • now i know i definitely don't agree with at least 18 people on the whole world......

  • You can really feel how Brian Jones might have influenced this song's sound. It another experimental song Especially the piano and organ part, they made a gospel sound and put it to rock. A great tribute to the man.

  • @Deathsquad49 ??? This is gospel genre. I'd have to say Billy Preston was the principle influence here, especially considering the time period.

  • Best Band Ever! The Rolling Stones Rock!

  • Best song ever by The Stones!

  • Love this song.

  • MICK TAYLOR!

  • according to Flea, of RHcp, The new red hot chili peppers record will be heavily influenced by this album. i think they will put there own style into it, too. but this isnt bad. Flea also commented on the new funky grooves. look at songs like "Strip my mind" or even, "i could have lied" thats what i think the album will be like if yyou are a rhcp fan

  • @Lyriks64 you know, I'm a big fan of the Stones and the RHCP! So your comment is very interesting and I hope what you say is true : Exile on main St in RHCP's way, what a good next album! Hoping Josh will be a good guitar player, even if John's not there anymore...

  • great song

  • Can't seem to get liiiiine on you.

  • Needn't have to argue about Beatles or Rolling Stones... they made excellent music side-by-side in those years and their music lived through may decades, whereas they hit not only the charts but our hearts and soul.

Both had ups-and-downs but they will always be the icons of the beginning beat era. I will always love both bands music ... absolutely wel done share :-)

  • @laggie24 I agree, although technically the Beatles never had a "down". In a way, their early break-up was good in that they broke up before they came up with something crappy. The Stones have been around longer than anybody, but they have one or two album's that I'd rather not revisit, though they more than make up for those minor flukes.

  • Los mejores 3 discos de los Stones (Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers y Exile on main Street) tuvieron la participacion de Mick Taylor, quien le dio una impronta mas blusera y rocanrolera a la banda, como en sus origenes.

  • Just discovered this song, thanks to the Ronnie Wood show on CHEZ. Fucking good song !

  • Exile. I used to live that lifestyle (see movie) back then. Looking back now, I can't believe how superior this album is in jazzy fluidity. Definitely the Stones best work. Somebody said something about underrated. Know what? Jagger is underrated as a singer. Nobody does it better than him. The free flow of his voice as it opens this song, from high to low and back. Or in Soul Survivor. Just unreal. Insane.

  • Right now I'm stretched out on a couch in room 1009, in a Tokyo high rise, watching the sun rise over the city. Fucking perfect.

  • @FDG917

    ...wish I was there

  • @FDG917 chicks are easy in Shibuya, aren't they

  • remember this song's purpose.. a tribute to Brian Jones... lyrics fit him perfectly and any real Stones fan knows this is about him!!

  • @Spiderrico123 Indeed! Brian kicks ass btw

  • great song

  • Mick Taylor!!!

  • Stretch out everyone in good ol room 1009

  • I listen to this song everyday, especially when I'm sad, it makes me happy for some reason

  • it's very goed!!!!!!! sorry, i'm not goed in english, i'm french.

  • grandissimo pezzo soul

  • Awesome! Check out my old band's version from the 90's.

  • big song

  • great song

  • favourite!

  • LOVE IT

  • haha, this song is gettin' on my nerves... cause i've listened it a hundred times

  • I'd say that after hearing Exile, the Stones can pretty much play anything that they want to play. They kick some serious ASS at C&W! Honky-Tonk Women, IS country. Did Ringo cover 'Act Naturally' by Buck? Yeah, and he NAILED it!

  • this is the most underrated stones song...it's absolutely my favorite song by them

  • @KIDAmnesiacBends how is this underrated?

  • @GiantDoucheNG

I'll tell you why, I never see it on any favorites list...Its never on the radio, and is rarely talked about. This song is life changing and amazing....just thank god martin scorscese named his movie after it or it would be even more less known

  • @KIDAmnesiacBends Just to be a total p*ick i believe robert plant is the best ;) , but i love jaggers voice and the rolling stones, thats why im here!

  • I miss this music...

  • Thank you...Such an incredible song.

  • The Rolling Stones are just a staple in my life, like breathing - I can dance, cry, fuck, sit or whatever I need in a day - there is a Stones song 4 any mood - I've followed since the age of 10 - 1st love was of course - "She's Like a Rainbow" - God bless these lads for all they have brought to the table and more!!!

  • Um, No. Im just trying not to be an asshole? Sorry, if that offends you.

  • rapcrap and shithop is KILLING real music like the stones, AC/DC, Van halen and so on! click like if you never will let the rock die

  • @tobythatsme well actually, rap and hiphop are completley different genres of music, and can be equally as good, depending on your taste. So please dont bash different genres and say they're not music, when they just aren't your taste. Comparing rock n roll to hip hop is a really stupid comparison. i'm sure the stones would rather you not compare them to anyone, just enjoy the music :)

  • This will be played at my funeral. :-)

  • music today sucks ass compared to this! and im 13! to have music like this at our school dances/parties anything...i would actually go.

  • @xoashleylovesmusicox i'm planning on ''being'' sick when we have a sance at our school! just because of the crap like justin bieber and that shit!

  • Sounds like recording sessions must've been a blast! such a nice melody, must be fun to play! Best Stones song!

  • Thanks for sharing, JonesMackane!

  • @deathmetalruler Bow out before you completely lose it!!

  • Comment removed

  • If your putting "real" songs on your channel, put some legendary Queen on too! Good job with the video btw.

  • @arsamfeghenaby fuck off

    queen sucks

  • @deathmetalruler Hey Bud, how about you don't bash Queen, they are one of the best bands ever to come out of the 70s, their music still thrives and survives deep in the roots of music, even today. In a world of pretentious shit music, they are alive. Let's see ANY of todays "musicians" make it for 40 years and still come out with guns ablaze. So if you have nothing nice to say about Queen or any other rock band of the 70s an 80s get the hell off Youtube. Ass.

  • @omfgheinz dude, i like do like 60s/70s bands. i just dont like queen.

and there from the 80s btw.

people stopped making good music sins the begin of the 80s.

    queen is just fucking rong.

so you get of youtube you childmolesting queenfag!!!

  • @deathmetalruler Before you make outlandish statements just check your facts before hand because Queens glory days were the late 70s, all the really had DURING 80s was Radio Gaga, which is shit. But there classics were late 70s.

  • @deathmetalruler wow, just way to be an asshole to homosexuals, what do you hate puppies and rainbows too? Oh and I said they were from the 80s, you know just because you don't like a band, doesn't mean you have to disrespect them.

  • @omfgheinz dude, do u take urself serious?

  • @cupidville

Oh, I see...in reference to the SUBJECT of this tune. My apologies - I stand corrected.

  • @cupidville

Sorry, good brother, Brian had passed by the time Exile was recorded. This is the great Mick Taylor.

  • c'mon up , c'mon up now, m'mon up, now...

  • Rock ON !! Sir Brian Jones.............

  • 17 people didn't want to shine a light !

  • This song was about mick jagger praying for god to shine a light on brian jones his soul.

  • In the hard times I wouldnt make it without The Stones !

  • Imma stones fan, but i just started listenin to them so if anyone has theeir favorite uh underated songs please tell me. thank you.

  • @jstone114 i like rocks off a lot and saint of me is one of my all time favorites :3

  • @jstone114 You have to hear the four albums: Beggar's Banquet, Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers and Exile on Main St. They are the four best stones albums and are all great

  • @manurok1 Agree with this......Tattoo You after those 4.........Waitin on a Friend!!!!!!!!

  • @manurok1 Absolutely agree ,in that period between 68-72 the Stones were unbelievable, backed up by Zeppelin,mk 2 Purple,Sabbath Britain truly ruled the world musically.

  • @GrantStoke Wouldn't give you a cup full of cold piss for the rest of them, not even as a job lot. Right load of second rate rubbish but the stones have a peculiar appeal that goes round the world. Say what you like about the world's stingiest front man or the guitar playing of a heroin addict, handcuffed by his habit, they still lived up to the moniker: the greatest rock n roll band in the world.

  • @jstone114 sway, basically The whole Exile Album, Beast Of Burden and I think that their newest Album A Bigger Band is pretty underestimated too

  • Need to marry you **busizz4me.info**

  • better than let it be

  • @AquaGirl11354

    GO....Great to here that!!

p.s Maybe there is hope... ;-) Have nice day

  • i love the rolling stones... and i am only 14 years old !<3

  • @love2pac4life congratu-fuckin-lations would you like a cookie? i hate these im 12,13,14 etc and i like good music posts. i mean sure im young but i dont go around flaunting my age on youtube videos to impress other people, i mean enjoying the rolling stones isnt an achievement.

  • @love2pac4life congratu-fuckin-lations would you like a cookie? i hate these im 12,13,14 etc and i like good music posts. i mean sure im young but i dont go around flaunting my age on youtube videos to impress other people, i mean enjoying the rolling stones isnt an achievement, and certainly isnt hard

  • @LedZeppelin827 take it easy man!u might hate the"i am 14" posts but...he is 14 and thus very prone to these" i am 14" posts. u may not be imressed but you don't have to be hard to a 14 year old.

  • @LIBIOS i hate to do this, but yes i can be hard on a 14 year old considering im a 15 year old

  • @LedZeppelin827 well i guess u do have a point kid.and since i am 29 years old i will get my "old" ass out of the way. peace to all.. :)

  • @love2pac4life So what if you're 14.

It's that you like it, not that you're 14 years old.

    Greets&Peace

  • We're starting a youtube channel to get real music back. Our plan is to gain subscribers, and have bands sending us demos. We'll feature the best songs on our channel, so people can stay updated on new bands. However, we will be very selective when it comes to what we put up, so the channel won't be full of shit. We believe the reason why rock isn't on the radio is because people aren't updated about new bands. Please subscribe, or send us a demo.

Don't let the mindless crap take you

  • @GetRealMusicBackTV

your channel idea sounds like bullshit, no one needs to you do any of that stuff man sorry and even moreso no one wants to listen to any new bands

  • @GetRealMusicBackTV Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

  • @GetRealMusicBackTV

Sign me up, send me details if you can...

  • @GetRealMusicBackTV MySpace /Beggarz for some Open-G Rock and Roll B))

  • @GetRealMusicBackTV

Me and some friends are planning to try a band that's Ventures-inspired.

Interested if we continue the idea?

  • @GetRealMusicBackTV rock isn't on the radio fucking what?

  • @GetRealMusicBackTV hahahahaha

  • @GetRealMusicBackTV Most people are sheep. They always will be.The only reason "rock" is not on the radio anymore is because of the advancements of technology. If they could of produced a nice gay radio friendly, over produced smash hit in the 70's.......well they would of.Most people don't want to think too much. They just lap up whats in front of them.

And that usually defines the "soundtrack to their youth". Ha....its quite amusing to watch.

  • @GetRealMusicBackTV people have different tastes dickhead. Just becuase you like this kind of music, which I also love, doesn't make other music crap. It's just not your taste.

  • @GetRealMusicBackTV I love how you're thinking. Keep up the good work. The soul of rock and roll isn't dead. It never has been and never will be. Great choice for a song. Exile, Let it Bleed and Sticky Fingers can't be touched. Check out some of my favorite rock and roll vids, heavy on the Stones. Also, check some of my uploads for some of my original tracks. Just waiting on the right singer. Thanks for what you're doing. Cheers and may the light shine on you.
