I bought Nu Instrumetal back in 2006 and for a long time thought he was one of the great unknowns. I've been a fan ever since. I honestly can't figure out why he gets trashed on YouTube -- it baffles me. Not a single track on that CD has ever stopped blowing my mind. I honestly pity those who clearly haven't given his music a fair chance. Amazing musician. I don't care how many people trash you on YouTube Doug, you're an incredible musician.
For the people who have made the rude comments here, I saw Doug open for Michael Schenker last year, I wasn't there to see Dough, however once he started playing I was blown away. Extremely talented, great sound. Then I met Doug and his wife after the show, Doug is a great guy, he took a great deal of time talking to a music fan that loves guitars. bought two of his cd's that night. He impressed me with his playing and being a great guy to hang out with.
@LillianAxefanforever Hey Lillian, just saw your post - thanks man! Nice to have met you - hope to see you again sometime. Thanks for being cool! Cheers ~ Doug
It's just a video of a show. Audience was having a good time, player was having a good time. If you don't like it, you don't have to watch it. And if you don't like it, it doesn't actually mean that other people want to hear your two cents if you can't say it nicely.
I don't understand the whole "all he plays is pentatonics" thing. It seems like the people who say that are just jumping on the bandwagon. I may be delusional, but in all of my years of seeing ACTUAL bullshitters who don't do anything creative, Doug really seems to be doing something great. Maybe you people can't hear him well with the sound quality in this video, and maybe you didn't get that his BCPT video is an excerpt from a song entitled Wrecking Ball that makes more sense in context. Dunno
I'm trying to understand what the big deal is of this guy. The whole verses all he does is pentatonic scale over and over. theres no base foundation or melody or anything. It's just soloing all over the place. And then in the actual "Guitar solo" he plays random scales but i mean it might just be me.
uhh, this is "shot live @ The Avalon"...and I hear bass and drums laying the foundation, but I see them not. Looks like air-guitar in his living room with 12 of his closest friends.
It's called stage presence. Showing off is part of the fun, and most of the time, the fans love it. It's not as though just about every guitarist doesn't do it. Look at Satch, Paul Gilbert, Steve Vai.. it's stage presence. It has fuck all to do with vanity and arrogance. He's having fun. Get over it.
ok...here is a real comeback....what he has is not called "stage presence". he has what is called....blowing your wad in the first few bars and not leaving anything to the imagination. he is good....maybe great...but the great ones know when to blow you away with a blistering lick and when to savor that one feeling or hook...i have seen this guy try to blow away uli...it reminded me of when steve lukather tried to do it to satch...he needs a good lesson in listenability
@TheShredder5000 "amatuer" you said?? haha first learn how to spell then look for more videos of this very talented guitarist and then continue jerking off to your stupid john petrucci brain-piercing stupid solos and shitty berklee "royal, academic" licks
Haha, man that was great :) You have really good stage presence.
Iain.
P.S- Nice shirt, I have the same styled one, but instead of "Sunset Strip" it's "Guns N' Roses". I've also seen Lynyrd Skynyrd shirts with the Jack Daniels logo.

That was more of an unwarranted insult than a comeback, and it made you look like an asshole. I didn't insult you in any way.
