Growing up in Country Victoria I remember Moomba festival as a kid being televised, and the bird man rally was always my fav. I am just really glad its still around in 2007. Moomba and birdman is a great tradition, and to answer the other post - yes sometimes they actually flew a little ways but mostly they just sunk.
Yeah, when I was a kid I did see a guy fly the whole 50 meters and get the cash. Although, back then there were actually serious attempts.
I also remember seeing 2 clowns sink their little boat. Have you ever seen somebody totally shitting themselves, but with a huge permanent smile drawn on their face? I'll never forget that.
Gee, not many people put much effort in anymore :(
