  • god i miss touring and going to shows. i think those were the best years of my life. ...i get sad too but then agree we were lucky to be on the bus like we were. its not same w/o jerry. anyways. light and love to everyone ! i miss dancing with 20,000+ of my best friends i never met...still dancing on a cloudy day

  • the phrasing that starts at 5:57 made me squeal like a little school girl....

  • The Bret Midland years were the best !! Post pig Pen, of course!

  • donna sucked

  • anyone got a ventura 83 recording?been looking for years after losing it

  • So powerful!!

  • This is BEAUTIFUL...I miss those days sooooo much. What a great flashback to the days when...

  • WoW...awesome. Thanks for sharing this with me, mon amour. Can't stop listening to it. xoxoxo

  • this song is bad ass

  • FUCCCCCCKKKKKK YEAHH DANCING IN MY CHAIR!!!! GOOOO BOB, JERRY JUST KILLING AND THE 80'S WERE NOT ALL THAT BAD AFTER ALL..HATED 80'S MUSIC GROWING UP

  • I think I first heard this in the 70's.

It is one of those lyrical pieces that defies rules

but reaches deep into the heart

  • Look how young Bobby is and how skinny Jer is. I SO miss Jerry, I can't get through a song like this without getting teary.

  • great version, love it, i agree w rainbow, how much i miiss them

  • what a great version, thank god for video, i miss them so much

  • is alright cause i love the dead

  • my name is zuRAIN !

  • Best band in a long time >>>>;]

  • excellent singing

  • Amen MrTBoneWilly...

  • wahhhh hes playing jerry music wahhh aw shut the fuck up you whining little creeps; be GRATEFUL this body of music CAN be played by others...you insipid little twerps....pardon my disgust at you ( you know WHO you are) pissants that INSTEAD of digging the music , are like that jerk in the movie bemoaning the fact that the dead were being filmed......you nitwits either need to listen to the music

    or STAY THE FUCK HOME

  • @bigfolkie5418 This is a Bob Weir song...

  • one of the best songs ever written......regardless of the genre

  • im fourteen never got to see them :/

    damnnittt

  • I think Jerry's guitar needs more pickups!

  • I just don't get R'n'B, it's a bit lame. Px.

  • amazing. my favorite song.

  • I am sitting in the dark by a recently stocked pond in early Spring. The Peepers are almost deafening. I am somewhere in The Allegany Mts. in New York. No Gas or Electric, Etc.And yet with my laptop in the middle of this starlit night Bobby sings. And the five of us drinking a beer at this picnic table and the now silent frogs are in awe.

  • Was 1988 and I was curled up with The One That Got Away in a little cabin motel in Maine. She sang along with this song and cried . We were laying together in a little single bed; She knew we were quits but I didn't, I was 21 and oblivious. Still think of her everyday, and this song still gives me goosebumps...and I don't even like GD...but this song...Jesus...

Alexis, are you out there? Still miss you after 20+ years Girl...

Christ, what a sap I've become...Time to listen to some F Minus...

  • For a Killer version of this song check out this show at the Live music Archive

For those who DOn't know, the Archive has well over 1000 Dead shows available for streaming and download

  • BOB SPIT

  • My Dad and I ADORE Grateful dead! He has all of the CD's, and I remember that when I was little, he'd actually play one of the CD's in my room at night and use it to lull me to sleep. Surprisingly, it actually worked! So now I'm more accustomed to this particular song more than I am to my own Mother's voice!

  • Bobby at his best, not to mention Jerry and really the whole band

  • THis was the first taped i traded for. I remember lookin at a guy's list and pickin out this show because i liked some of the songs on the setlist. Sent him a couple maxell ll's and the rest is history... GUess i picked a good one. HOOKED FOR LIFE, THANK YOU KIND STRANGER. I miss tapes

  • sounds so much better without donna

  • @Mossbandnj definitely sounds better without donna, and i usually like her...

  • @Mossbandnj I like Donna but I agree, this song could've done without her.

  • @Mossbandnj Amen to no Donna!! SHe ruined years of you Dead music!!

  • this is one of the most beautiful love songs.

  • I hate this music. It makes me feel. Where's my drink. NOT... awesome. Does anyone else see the godly glow around Jerry during that solo... Timeless Jerry is.

  • ,I try my best, even more. they, i wil kill them when i find them. demons Tying to spread the Gospel. Please at least, hear the words of this song.

  • This has to be my all time favorite. With Reuben and Cerise in close second, only due to lack of Robert Hunter's true lyrics! This song hurts like hell when you are alone, but then it can remind you of what you have.

  • Are there any vids available that show the Dead in Britain?

  • Epic

  • ah man this vid makes my eyes water...

  • gotta admit it's hard to relive those days on video. i might as well close my eyes and listen to sirius radio dead channel..

  • what a wonderful show, i would have loved to have been there, thank you so much for posting these

  • WHO COULD NOT LIKE THIS SONG!!!

  • awesome.this whole broadcast is my favorite.th for the post.

  • WOW good good stuff

  • Yeah, just beautiful.

  • Brilliant.

  • most killer song from a long list of Weir's stuff.lyrics are most excellant as well.Garcia's peels are superb!they were so tight in these years.awesome stuff.

  • @powerman2027 Right on man.................

  • one of my fav. tunes from the dead!

  • He has enormous hands and can reach those hard-to-play chords.

  • check out the Furthur "Looks Like Rain" from 3-5-10 in broomfield, co. the morning dew from the next night too.....man those were some stellar shows!

  • @jdsprechs Sorry bro but on furthur"s best night they will never compare to 95% of the deads shows prior to vince joining the band. I have never gone to a furthur show and never will but i have heard a few and it seem"s like a waste of time. The dude that try"s to play garcia"s part is just a cheap imitation why does he not play his own way instead of TRYING to play garcia"s way?

  • Because Garcia's way is the best way...Everyone hates an elitist

  • @coyote023 I understand man. I only started seeing Ratdog in 07 and since then things have picked up for me. Been on a couple tours and nothing compares to when the lights go down and the boys walk on stage. Since I was only 9 when Jerry died I never got the chance to see him so I suppose this is the next best thing. In any respect Bobby and Phil still have it in my opinion and I really suggest you give them one chance. If you do end up going maybe we could meet up!

  • @jdsprechs Bro i have given phil a chance, when he went and talked to larry campbell, jackie greene, molo, and larry"s wife that was a great band because they had their OWN funk and the music came so easily. Larry played his own way as well as jackie, nobody tried to sound like garcia. The dude is trying to mirror garcia and that is where furthur sucks. Phil should have just stuck with larry and friends and that would have been cool.Maybe i just remember how great it was, i dug that,no furthur.

  • @coyote023 A cool drink of water on a warm summer day is welcome even if you had your heart set on a beer. If Further is ever near your town, pack up a cooler and check it out. Give it a chance. Have a cool drink of water on a warm summer day. Jerry wouldn't care if you enjoyed yourself.

  • @mountainstosand 21 Furthur shows so far----can't wait for July

  • jerry's tone is so awesome.

  • 最高!!!

    Good!

  • Bobby <3

  • jerry :[

  • it's time for a cryin' song.

  • I can't believe how much I miss this band!

  • @rainbowpagun ... I get very sad so many times listening to the songs...thinking about all the good times.... I grew up with these guys......

  • @MrTboneWilly i get sad to* but than i think man i seen over 200 dead shows and 43 jerry band shows thier are these 13 yers olds kids that live by me they love the dead some week ends i can hear them blasting the dead and i think im the luckys mofo to have been thier the fun i had the wine the woman the sid the best peps the best band and the sad gose away and i get this grin from ear too ear and i think i will just keep danceing till the day i dye too a band that i will miss mr lucky peace

  • IF ANY OF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN FURTHUR, SEE THEM!

ITS THE CLOSEST THING TO A DEAD SHOW YOU CAN POSSIBLY GET TO THESE DAYS!

BOB AND PHIL LEAD SOME SICK FUCKING JAMS STILL!

  • @TheShampow44 John Kadlecek really is stepping up to the plate too...

  • I have always thought that Bobby Weir was & IS the best rythm guitar player I have ever layed my ears upon.TRULY UNDERRATED

  • "Did you ever waken to the sound of street cats making love?

And guess from their cries you were listening to a fight.

Well you know, hate's just the last thing they're thinking of.

They're only tryin' to make it thru the night." - John Barlow

  • The Band! Nice choppy lead by Jerry.

  • Going to see Furthur at the Greek in LA on Tuesday. The Boys are sounding really good these days. Bobby is a force to be reckoned with.

Love this song. . . . miss Jerry

  • yeah... once again t'is the part of the show i feel over messefl ;-)

    still as beautiful today

pity i can't turn back time

  • @WEIR4EVER i almost can't listen to this without being overwhelmed with the nostalgia..can almost smell the sparks after a thunderstorm during a dead concert back in '80.....

  • @tabbyybbat gosh... do i ever hear you.... i just know, i will never ever in my life experience anything like that again........ I'll be sighing all the way to my grave lol (then i'l dance on it ;-)

  • @tabbyybbat I gotta tell ya those feelings come back to me whenever i see video from back in those day"s. But it still brings nothing but cool memories, Sometimes if i was at the show that the video is from it gets even more vivid. I cannot bring myself to go and see this furthur band it just does not feel right and it never will. I get by on the 400 shows i saw before brent passed. As far as live music it is a small list that i go see los lobos, levon helm, allman bros.,and of course dylan.

  • @coyote023gotta admit it's hard to relive those days on video. i might as well close my eyes and listen to sirius radio dead channel. will go to allman bros this month at the beacon though...

  • Man, they really get into there music, espically Bob Weir on this song. I found myself walking around singing it.

  • Man Jerry's got his guitar turned WAY up for that solo!! Bobby never looked better.

This is the year before I saw my first show. Ah, so many roads. God I miss seeing these guys but am so profoundly grateful for those times. There was no place on earth I'd have rather been. And guess what rabbitnosekid, sometimes for awhile, just awhile, when there's men deadicated to a thoughtful expression of peace and love in the midst of thousands of like-minded people, then everything CAN be fine and dandy .

  • but it's alright cos i love you

  • woah bob.. that is powerful..

    real fucking good performance here

  • i have met "the leader of the band".

  • so good!

  • always loved the double drummers in synch. the 80's is when i got to go see them <3

  • And here comes the rain. Chicago 2010

  • sooo good yet soo sad

  • I imagine if God ever spoke to me, he'd sound like Bob Weir.

  • @darkstarncw I imagine that if there was a god that he would have stopped WWII before 70-79 million people (80%civillians) were slaughtered. either there is no god, or there is and it is a sick fucker that ate popcorn while watching tens of millions of women, children and elderly suffer horrific deaths.

  • @aaqaaqaaqaaqaaqaaqaa this comment wasn't necessary. and you don't know much about life...

im not religious, at all. i have no opinion at all. but nothing can ever be always fine and dandy in life. thats just a waste of time.

  • @aaqaaqaaqaaqaaqaaqaa

you're trolling a grateful dead youtube video? Hahaha that's pretty lame

  • love this song~peace with love

  • Bobby is for me the guitarist that I would like to be rhythmic to fall the third hand

  • Sweet

  • Bobby Weir will always be remembered as one of the best rhythm guitar players in the rock genre (oh yeah, and one hell of a singer)

  • One of my fave songs!

  • Your goin to make me blush

  • "But it's alright, because I love you.

    And that's not gonna change"

"I'll still sing you love songs, written in the letters of your name..."

Some of the most beautiful lines ever written! Thanks 4 posting this!

  • I can't believe how much I miss this band!!

  • very chill...luv it...I agree, bobby is def the best at playing complex stuff and is underrated fur sure...and he really puts the feeling and emotions into the music. Makes you feel it deep inside, in the pit of your stomach. Peace all.

  • Diese Nummer enthält alles an feeling, was Musiker nur rausbringen können, sei es Gesang, Bass, Gitarren sowieso, einfach wunderbar, unübertrefflich!!!!!!

  • this song has been able to bring me to tears since it first came out - and it still can. Beautiful version of a beautiful song.

  • Wow. Bobby has even more soul than I thought. Thanks for putting this up.

  • absabobalutely. fabulous bob moment

  • Brilliant Bobby again,I really rate this guy as a musician, all time blues/rock hero.

  • I saw the Dead when they were last in London. One of the blokes I went there with brought along some blond floozy. He wanted me to play a part in his disgusting shenanigans. I dug his g/f so I suggested that he go fuck. Eventually I split from them and some brilliant Heads took me under their wings we all ended up in the Devils Playground the Wembley Hilton. Regards to all of you XX

  • this is such a great song, one of my favorites - my all-time favorite version of it is on the Go to Nassau cd. Still absolutely amazing though.

  • Wish there were more versions of this song on YT

Loved when they played it in pouring sunshine

    Fantastic stuff

    Bobs best song!

  • estimated prophet is the best bob song.

    i think, just an opinion.

  • one of my dead favourite tunes!!!

  • This is and was ever my favorite love song and gd song as well. I saw the Rockpalast show live on tv in 81, this show made me a deadhead forever. Unfortunately i was not able to grab a ticket for that show, it was sold out. I'm livin only 40 miles away from Essen... But I taped the show (it was broadcasted live over europe on tv and on fm radio). Still one of my favourite shows!

  • Love ur story. I came from Brussels in the storm, that night. We got lost, and arrived there at midnight. No one was in the lot... except this bus that was arriving... parked right by us and out came the Grateful Dead. We walked in with them, ended up first rwo! First of a long series of 'Miracles' :-)

  • bob is the best at playing complex stuff that looks so simple.

    underrated genius.

  • @powerman2027 WELL SAID!

  • @powerman2027 So true. That little arpeggio/run lick at :36 - :38 really highlights his understated skill.

  • @powerman2027 i agree i can never figure his shit out

  • Oooh yeah, great show. I still remember that night. What a blast ! ! !

  • probably the best song bobby sings. in my opinion. almost makes me cry lol

  • Great video. Thanks so much for posting songs from this show. J 's playing is nice and crisp here : a pretty big accomplishment considering how completely BOXED he looks !!!

  • still a song that touches me heart since i was 13......i just love it...looks like rain now in west chester, pa my friends...<3

  • it rarely looks like rain here in the Sonoran Desert (aka Tucson, AZ)

  • Lucky you! I love deserts, been to many of them, and i thrive in 'em. Only i was born in Brussels, Belgium and boy...... this song was an instant favorite when i discovered it and has remained deeply ingrained in my heart for decades..... Lived in the sun for many years.... and now i'm back in Brussels and guess was...

    I woke today.......

and i can't take no more f**** rain today.

  • I actually had lyrics from this song in my wedding vows!...used to be one of my VERY favorite songs...sounds a little silly now, but I still love it. : )

  • the song is about breaking up with someone.

seems like that would have made for an akward wedding.

  • LOL!!! Well, we are divorced now if that tells you anything!! ;-p

Yeah, it has that in it...but the expression of love and how deep and true it is ~ that's what we used.

We didn't say..."Did you ever hear the sound of street cats making love..." either...LOL!

  • I left her standing at the flip out tent in the Meadowlands. I wish I hadn't

  • what a song for lifting you out of the depths...

  • bob was on his game this night!!

  • Garcia starts getting hot at 6 mins in. I miss him so much.

  • this is the best love song ever

  • great love song but also a testament to what's to come after a heart brake

  • Good quality. Good jam. A nice one.

  • check out Hartford Civic Center spring 1988.....Best of all

  • Hartford Civic Center...many good memories!!

  • you really have faith in that? well... okay. :)

  • t y gratefulvideo greatful head

  • this is a comfort song to me. I like that the quality of the audio is decent. i hope to see them in chicago when they're here.

  • seriously, if there is a better version please let me know. I have yet to hear a better one.

  • Even though i was at this one.... and it's one of my fave songs, I recommend Berkeley Greek 83. So good it's sick!( errr was there too)

  • every thing from the GREEK was SICK... BTW early 80s dead was the BEST not late 70s like EVERYONE thinks !

  • Agreed!!!

  • Bobby sounds good! holy smokes!
