@ohArtin Wrong, people have noticed that in some instances that if you start your 7th worker first then just group select your workers to go mine it can be just as effective as splitting. But you can do both together which is the most efficient.

i figure selecting 3 was a mistake, most people usually select 2 after the initial 4split

besides it wasn't a perfect split one of the scv's got late, and mostly everyone can perfect split better than that when the minerals are on the right side

the technique of selecting 4 at first etc. makes it easier, it just takes practice, i mean, he's not some kind of god for doing this, stop with the praise for splitting, he's getting more apm on normal macro

Reasons for splitting:

SC1: So your workers will mine more efficiently than the AI.

SC2: So your workers will mine more efficiently than the AI.

huh...

SC2 workers do split somewhat, as in they wont all start mining the same patch, but if you all click them onto the same patch they wont mine as efficiently if you split them apart.

Splitting still makes you mine faster, its not as significant as in SC1, but it still is an improvement, which you might as well do it at the start when you have nothing to do. All of the professional SC2 players still split their workers. Also I never said to split them individually, people split into 2 groups of 3 which is the most efficient due to apm constraints.

Last time I checked 2:2:2 or 3:3 is still splitting.

Also you start with 6 workers, splitting 2:2:2 is 1 less apm than splitting into groups of 1 in BW.

Splitting is just as important and almost as much apm as in SC1.

@emocelot You kidding me? Splitting is still needed in SC2 to play optimally, just not at this level. You need a well executed 2x3 split or better so that you can have constant worker production from the 0 minute mark to the end of the game. If you fail, you lose a second on that second worker and that can lead to a chain of events that delays everything. Only matters at high levels though.

That is an interesting split. He actually manually selects each worker rather then doing a standard split using shift+click. I guess that is either just faster for him or he practices his precision with the mouse.
