The locations where we shot chases scenes were downtown Akron, Firestone Park, The Gorge, Sand Run Park, North Hill, Cuyahoga Falls, and other scenes at Children's Zoo, former Anthe's Restaurant in Portage Lakes, Prestwick Country Club, Coventry High School (where I attended. I also attended Tallmadge HS), Summit County Jail, Akron PD HQs, Waterloo Restaurant, and in my studio in a large warehouse close to South Arlington and I-77. Blessings, Don Bendell
TheEurasia1984. You can go to amazon and type in "the instructor, bendell" and it will take you to used copies of the film, or you can buy them off of the web. I bought several copies for just a few bucks. Or go to my site and click on the film and it will take you there.
SGTForrestgump I am a fake but use my own name? But a flake like you with no cahones has to hide behind a phony movie name? Yeah, people sure will respect your comments . . . . . Not.
@BillyLo1995 Thanks Billy, I have directed a little, but started writing novels and books in the late eighties. I have 25 books out now with over 2,500,000 copies in print worldwide. My new one is a western called STRONGHEART and is getting many 5 star reviews and selling off the shelves at Wal-Mart abnd places like that. I hope it will be a film someday, as I am a real cowboy with a real horse, and real ranch in southern Colorado. I also have a screenplay about Vietnam called YARDS. Thanx Don
Someone asked about Jerry Cohen. Jerry is a great guy and was a great friend. Have not seen him for years. Thanks, Lordarkeet. Who are you? Yes, the Uppper Deck was called the White House back then. I grew up a half mile away on Point Comfort at the end of Turkeyfoot Golf course. Miss Nicki, it was a feature film, not a documentary. It does not matter where we took shots, just what looks better on screen. The motorcycle chase was from State Road, Firestone Park, Sand Run Park, and the Gorge.
I'm wit missnicki on that you can't get places like that round here plus the APD these days woulda been on that shut tryin ta shoot mufuckas an shit haha

To Harley, Thanks. The Trans-Am was owned by a buddy from Manchester named Dan Darden. The blue corvette was actually two Vettes. One was real and the other was brown, painted over w/blue for the jump. It broke in half. By agreement, I paid the owner a grand, he fixed it up, and then sold it at a handsome profit as the Vette that crashed thru the truck. By the way, I have a new western, STRONGHEART, being released worldwide Sep 7. Please read it.
I believe at 8.43 they are going through the S. Mail/Exchange intersection. The brown building coming up on the right is now the AES building, where I worked in college on third floor, then rented out by MBNA. At 8.40, on the left, a building with the sign BEST were popular bars around 2003-2006, now owned by UAkron. Around 8.53 they are passing Spaghetti Warehouse.
That was My aunts cadillac 3:10 She was at the bar getting drunk and smokin crack. I remember Click's before it became acme and Guys wasn't even finished being built or giant eagle
yes 6:07 is waterloo and main looking east . with Holy Cross Cemetary to the southeast ..and also there was a Sunoco where Sheets is now (opposite the cemetary), not a Sohio . Sohio was at 4:07 , in between what is now Scorchers and , The Waterloo rstr. which remains an Akron icon. (anymore questions) and yes, I know how to spell restaurant. have no clue where 4:50 is.
Ha this movie and Lebron James helped put Akron on the map. Have any of you guys seen the movie "The Dead Next Door"? it was filmed in Akron too at the Derby Downs and in the Quayle baseball fields by the RubberBowl
I am the writer, producer, director, co-star, of the film. I directed all this and was doing some of the driving. Somebody said it was filmed in 1983, but it was not. It was shot in 1980, we did some re-shooting (the beginning of the film in Colorado in 1983) and it was released worldwide in 1983. It was sold to and shown in 164 countries and was out on Vestron video. Blessings, Don Bendell
Hello Don, Thanks for the info. Awesome Chase!! I added your info to the description. Hope you dont mind me having the video up its very popular video for the people that live in Akron,Ohio, and very hard to find movie. Thanks again love the flick.
Yes I did and no I did not. I had zero experience in the film business and likewise with my cast and crew. I raised the money which was very little and I was functioning on about 3 hours per sleep per night for 7 weeks. I also was going through a marriage breakup. so I have mixed memories. I will tell you one thing; I felt alive! My wife now and I have been married 28 years. She was an extra on the movie and her aunt was my art director and fixed us up. I'm very much in love with my wife. Thanks
It all looks so different. I saw an ACME CLICKS!!! I hven't seen one of those since I was little. I remember they had a machine you put a quarter in and a chicken clucked and layed an egg with a cheesy toy inside. I called them bock bocks.lol
I was 15 years old when this movie was filmed in 1983. At 6:07 i was standing slightly off camera to the right in the Sohio Gas station lot watching as this scene was filmed.
lmao!!!!! I saw The Waterloo Restaurant...Main St., Downtown Akron, Aster Ave...........this was too funny! Never knew about this and was born and raised right where the video was shot.
akron sure looks different
