Wow look at that projected path and prognosis. Even less than 3 days out, not even the experts had any idea what would happen after it crossed Florida.
I live in Central NC I remember when this hit Florida they remnants of it was supposed to come up through here and bring us some much needed rain. We were actually looking forward to it.
i will never forget this storm i stay in da n.o. looking at the track before it changed was unbelieveable. that was a huge shift in the track of katrina.
At 3:14 in the video, TWC gives the latest information on Katrina. They list the winds at 75 mph, but list the "estimated" pressure at 1001 mb. Obviously that's incorrect. You're rarely going to have a hurricane with pressure above 987 mb, let alone above 1000 mb.
The eye passed over me here in West Miami. It was definitely a minimal hurricane. I heard the shingles get ripped off my roof, and the damage the next morning was consistent with Category 1 on the SS Scale.
Its interesting that only three to four days before Katrina struck Louisiana and Mississippi that they thought it would head for the FLORIDA PANHANDLE!! NO WHERE NEAR where it actually went. So I ask you Dj0287, when did you find out that it would impact your area and not Northern Florida and were you surprised that this forecast shown in this clip was incorrect in a bad way?
Yea I was kinda surprised...I actually was thinking more toward the AL/FL border maybe as far west as Mobile...Even the 10am advisory on Fri Aug. 26 had it going into the panhandle so that's where I figured it was going...It was the 4pm advisory that they shifted the track from the panhandle to the MS Gulf Coast...I was surprised the NHC had such a major shift in the track!! But I knew it would impact are area Fri evening Aug. 26..Sun morning Aug 28 when it became a cat 5 is when I felt sick!
Wow! It looks like the sattelite image of Hurricane Katrina obtaining her peak strength! Except it's a radar picture and the eye is like 2 miles long. :D
I know a deadlier storm....

Which was more catastrophic for Miami? Hurricane Katrina or Lebron James?

They were lucky Katrina didn't have another 12 hours over water - or South Florida would have had a monster as well...
