  • Thanks man, but why not go with a 2.6 or 2.8? You never know if you'll wanna go faster someday... Most people get bored from running the same power over a period of time. You can still have your 600 rwhp, but its good to know your supercharger has a lot more potential from a simple pulley swap. lol But if you do get that 2.2, your car is gonna SCREAM!!! Haha that's the beauty of those 2.2 and 2.4 KB's.

  • I've just been waiting for the right deal to come along, now a days with everybody upgrading to the big blowers I can pick up a 2.2 for ~$1800-2k (didn't have money at that time though dammit) and plus from what I've heard 650-700 rwhp on the street is really hard to hook up. I know I'll want more though, heck I want to skip the port go right with KB lol. Plus with the bigger blowers pushing 700 you have to start upgrading other stuff. Like the t-56 or the IRS. Not necessarily but ya should.

  • Yeah thats true. Going with the 2.2 is a good idea for the power you want for now. And if the time comes when you want more power, you can always sell it and get a bigger one. And the tranny is one thing I need to upgrade. Im surprised it hasnt broke on me yet. lol

    And I'll tell you something: 600 rwhp will NOT hook up on the street AT ALL on street tires. You need DRs. I can dump the clutch at 65 mph and break traction. Haha I did that the second my KB was tuned, but its bad for the clutch.

  • Haha I hear that, I can barely get traction in 2nd @ 40 on street tires and I'm not even pullied, 1st gear it hops really bad, I'm just working on getting a spec stage 3+, an irs brace and bushings, billetflow 2.76, custom tune, some bfg's, and a LFP heat exchanger. Just some basic upgrades for now. Oh and I forgot the cooling mod because mine is a mineral grey (early run 2003) but luckily no ticking problem yet. Sonic Blue is the only other color I wish I had :)

  • Haha yeah. I want a bunch of stuff for my car, but money is always a problem. If I do end up wanting more power, I'll have a lot of shit to upgrade. My car is nearly maxed out. Its amazing how strong these cars are made from the factory. I'm running over 700 HP on a stock engine!

  • If I were you, I'd upgrade to the 3.4 Whipple. Whipple's are known to make more torque than Kenne Bell's do at the same horsepower level. And yeah the KB makes a nice whine, but they're fairly quiet. You gotta be running a decent amount of psi for it to really scream (18+). Thats the only thing I really hate about the twin screw. They are made to be quiet. Why the fuck would they do that?

  • What was the max boost that the 2.6 KB Blower could put out? Wasn't it like 20 psi? Why don't you run that? Too much stress?

  • The most a 2.6 can put out is 24 psi. 24 psi is too much for the stock internals to handle, so thats why I dont run it. 22 psi is the highest you can go and still be somewhat safe.

    The only difference between the 2.6 and 2.8 KB is that the 2.8 can put out another 2 psi. Thats it. Now the Mammoth 2.8 is a different story. Im not exactly sure what it can do, but its very pricey and it puts out a lot more power than the regualar 2.6 and 2.8. It makes more HP/TQ using less psi. Its more efficient.

  • I know that Mammoth on a GT500 makes like 801rwhp like the site said or somewhere around there. That seems somewhat logical because of the stock 500bhp/ 450 est rwhp.

    If I was in your shoes, hahaha I would have bought the Mammoth but either way a Kenne Bell is a Kenne Bell. They both make a shitload of horsepower, 2.6 or 2.8.

  • I dont really want anymore power. If I would have bought that VERY expensive Mammoth, I would still have the same amount of power I do now. Why? Because I almost have the MAXIMUM amount of power my car can handle as it is. Another 50 HP and my engine would probally blow. With another 50+ HP, I'd have to upgrade the tranny, new rear end, heads, cams, supercharger, tuner, dyno tune, etc. I'd also have to buy connecting rods, pistons, and a crank + have them installed and balanced. Its VERY pricey.

  • ive safely run 21 psi on my 2.6H and race gas.Safe tune is the key.Street tune on pump gas is always 17 psi.These motors can take alot as long as you keep it tip top condition.

  • Yeah, I run 16 psi on my street tune, even though I should be doing the 17 like you. And I always put in race gas when Im running the 20 psi. The guy who dyno tuned my car said 22 psi is fine, but thats as far as the car can go without breaking something. And yes, my car is in perfect condition. I've taking it to the track a couple times, but I baby the hell out of it when Im driving it on the street.

As much as it hurts to say this because I love Cobras, the amount of shit you would have to do to a Cobra to be in a complete league of the ZR-1 (outside of straight line racing) meaning, weight, handling, power band, reliability, etc...Would cost a SHITload of money. The Cobra's a great car. But it's no ZR-1.

  • First off, Im a mechanic. I get a discount on every part I buy AND I install it myself. The Cobra is VERY reliable car and it wont break. Second, dont speak the obvious. Of course the ZR1 wins on turns, but I think you agree that most people race the 1/4 mile, not turns. My car has more HP/TQ than the ZR1. My car is $28K with the Kenne Bell on. If I wanted to add another $72K (or even 10K) on my car, I would RAPE the face off of an OVERPRICED ZR1. Quit comparing apples to oranges.

  • I think we can all agree that a Cobra is gonna need a about 50-75 hp more then a vette to beat it from a roll. A bone stock ZR1 will put down about 550 at the wheels. A bolt on C6 z06 is gonna trap around 124-128. From what i have seen most kennie bell cobras are trapping around the same. But man u have a sick ass car! i love the sonic blue and the kennie bell must screem! Are u on svtperformance?

As the guy with the gto said ur gonna need 700+ hp to beat a ZR1 from a roll. As a matter of fact Bolt on C6z06s are dead on with kenne bell cobras..there have been many videos proving this. Of course it goes both ways..sometimes the vette wins..sometimes the cobra.

  • the rear im going to upgrade to 3.91's and a cover that i've already bought as well as an aluminum drive shaft thats chillin in my garage... i have all new bfg kdw's for the car but im waiting for the tires that came with my rim package to wear down first. figure im just going to do it all at once. And all of this will be on 93octane pump gas!=] outta be one hell of a daily driver when im done. 450whp at the mild setting and 600+ at the wild one. i'll be sure to post videos and pics of the build

  • Your numbers are a tad bit off for the ZR1:

    ZR1 - 638 HP/3350 lbs = (5.25 lbs/hp)

    My Cobra - 700 HP/3600 lbs = (5.14 lbs/hp)

    700 HP is the actual HP rating at my crank. 700 HP - 15% loss at the drive train gives you exactly 595 rwhp. And those are also actual ZR1 numbers. Go on its official site. I found it funny on how its heavier than the C6 Z06.

    My car barely beats it, but as you said before, the ZR1 would start pulling at higher speeds and of course on the turns.

  • yea i just made a guess for the weight for the zr1... it makes sense its heavier than the z06 though... don't forget you're taking the same block as the ls7, but the ls9 has thicker cylinder walls (almost negligible, but weight none the less), the supercharger, a heat exchanger filled with fluid, and metal intake manifold instead of plastic ect. well then cudos to you for actually edging out the power to weight ratio. now youll just have to post a video racing one!

  • well i have a about 8 grand right now... thats enough to get the aps tt kit, and i already have a spec clutch in my car... but i cant put anything in until i get home from school ie xmas break. so i'm still debating whether i want to save up a little more for the gen tt kit. the aps at 10ps1 w/ meth would put me just shy of 600rwhp, but the gen tt with no meth at 10ps1 would put me at 640whp... aps= $8k gen tt= $10k. what do you think? look up what they look like... gentt is pretty bad ass...

  • Go all the way. Get the GEN TT. But thats not the only thing you'll be buying.

    You have to buy forged pistons (low compression), forged conncting rods, and a forged crank that can all handle 800 HP (about $1800 for a kit). You also have to buy the tuner for your car (about $400), get it dyno tuned (about $500), upgrade tranny, possibly an upgraded rear end, and high octane fuel (about $8 a gallon). And tires are VERY important and expensive.

    You proablly already know this, but Im just saying.

  • actually all stock lsx motors can take 10 pounds of boost with a good tune safely, and with the gentt thatll put me over 600wheel... i'm going to buy a boost controller and get a tune so that will allow me to change settings between 4-5ish and 10lbs. dyno time will probably be about $800-$1000 because i wont be able to use the tune that comes with the kit if i want to 2 step it. the trans i know is good for 1000horse because i already have carbon fiber syncros and the clutch.

  • Sure thing! Theres two guys around here with C6 Z06s (one is blue and the other is silver) and they are always willing to race anybody. Before I got my KB, I raced the silver one and my car was dead even with his. No car was faster than the other. Now that I have my KB, I've been waiting for them.

  • The whole bottom end is bone stock. Thats what makes the Cobra a better car than the C5 Z06. The Cobra can handle twice the power it comes with and not to mention its just as fast, all for a lower price and a rarer car.

  • Okay. Im actually waiting on a pair of drag radials to be shipped to my house. I ordered them two weeks ago, but Sears is waiting to have them shipped in to their store. Its going to be a long wait, but when I get them, I'll make some 1/4 mile videos. Its a possibilty I wont make the times a ZR1 makes because Im not a professional at drag racing. The pros who have driven the ZR1 have way better reaction times and shifting skills than I do. But Im not making any excuses. We'll see in time.

  • Do the math. Im running 595 rwhp. I have about 700 HP at the crank @ 18 psi. My car weighs 3600 lbs.

    The ZR1 has an average of 638 HP at the crank (some were measured at 646 HP). Lets take the 646 HP for example. Thats 549 RWHP. The car weights 3350 lbs.

    Heres why my car is faster. I HAD BELT SLIP. That pulley puts out 20 psi, but it only gave me 18 because of the slippage. I am without a doubt faster than a ZR1. 250 lbs less isnt going to make up for 62 HP, not to mention 88 HP @ 20 psi.

  • And thats an example based on the fastest ZR1. The average is around 638 HP. I also have more rear wheel torque than I do rear wheel horse power. The ZR1 doesnt have anywhere near the torque I have.
