Not to be rude/ignorant, but may I ask why the 1st cellist has an endpin. I just thought that was odd because call the other instruments are baroque. Thanks.
I'm not crazy about these preformers. They all seem like they are scared of their partners taking the glory. If you watch the first violin and first viola they always stand out when their part comes in as if to say "My part is hard and I can do it." Also, the cellist closest to the center looks like she's going to kill someone. The sound is pretty good though!
i performed this piece with my middle school chamber orchestra but at no where near the same tempo, its amazing how they can play so fast yet still be so accurate.
@footballer351 They can be so accurate because they have been practicing for YEEEEARRRRS! I wish I could play that fast, too. =) Makes you jealous, don't it?
@sosome57 Actually, it doesnt really take years to practice for this. My teacher gave me this piece about 3 months ago. I can play their speed and probably faster. I think it takes heavy practice. If you wanna see me play this feel free to check it out on my youtube :)
@TheSilentVloggerX It's not tremendously difficult, but requires patience, practice and precision. This is the only orchestral piece I've actually learned to play All the parts (except Bass, but as I recall it doubles 3rd cello.) I first encountered it community orchestra in 1972 (8th grade, 1st viola) and have played it at least 16-18 times since (1st or 2nd viola.) It's Great fun!
@UlfenDaddy Touche! Thats true. Ive only been playing for about 8 months in my school orchestra, and I still need to polish up my skills since I am the first chair of all the six cellos in our level of playing. And yes I agree it is great fun :P
@nickmaestro Errr no. They had very different styles. If you don't think that Vivaldi can be every bit as complicated and deep as Bach, then you haven't heard enough of his music.
If that were the case, I wouldn't have gotten at least two thumbs up on my comment. Yes Vivaldi's music showed complexity, virutousity, and great ornamentation. His flute/cello sonatas and string sinfonias are some of his best and underrated works. It just that Bach did everything better and brought the Baroque practice to its highest maturity.
@nickmaestro Just as I've said you haven't heard enough of Vivaldi's music. I'm going to level with you. The only reason why you know that Bach even existed is because there were a few aristocrats who had his music in their collections. Mozart and Mendelssohn came across Bach in those collections and began playing it. I'm not saying that Bach wasn't an amazing composer. But he was definitely not peerless.
@nickmaestro i don't agree... all in all sevral cocnerts of the "estro armonico" opus are full of steroids too. for example the first 30 seconds of the 11th concert, for 2 violins, whose sound, in the best interpretations, resemples the hurdy gurdy is quite adrenalinic... :)
i don't know why not a single CD of TBO is available in Fully Booked....sadly, the only store / distributor of CDs of Period Instrument Bands here in Manila. :(
i so much like ur Vivaldi CD with Miss Wallfisch !!! :)
My wife and I were lucky enough to have been able to catch this concert live in Toronto, and it's such a pleasant surprise to catch it again on Youtube! Tafelmusik and I go way back, having attended their concerts and danced to their performances with Opera Atelier, and even after 20 years, Tafelmusik has yet to disappoint. This off-the-book small-ensemble work really allows the different characters of the players to shine, particularily on video or seen live.
Please! I wanna meet the cellist girl!

Christina Mahler had knee surgery a few years ago. I think that is why she uses the end pin.

Mom my loves all those Vivaldi violin concertos...but when I played her J.S. Bach, this movement in particular, she was speechless.
Bach = Vivaldi on steroids.

the people that say classical music is boring should hear this. they say classical not realizing / knowing it's baroque.
dullath 2 years ago 12
@dullath This is not classical music...This a Bach....a category on its own.

Perhaps the most under-rated Baroque ensemble in the world????
Excellent video quality as well.
