Put credit where it is due. Kosen Judo = Origin of BJJ. Rickson said in his book that the japanese held back on teaching and taught only the basics because they were non-japanese and thus had to learn and evolve the art on their own. Helio did improve it, But he did not invent it. ALL of it is still from Kosen Judo. The Gracies didnt know the Triangle (sankaku jime) choke existed and only learned it in 1960 -1970
i rekon judo typically wins most modern karate styles nowaday because they are not trained in grappling so once the judoka moves in close range the karateka has already lost coz they dont know wot 2 do
The first one is an ambar, I know it as Othen Gatame, but she doesn't suceed with it. The second one we call Othen Jime. She only takes the leg to hold the opponent under controll.
Sorry but both of you are wrong... The move she used is known as Okuri eri jime. That is why she held the leg while her right hand held her lapel to choke her.... Here is the best demonstration of it so you can see
if you did judo and BJJ and you think your in the knowledge that one of the two styles is weak compared too another i advice you too take another class and train your ass off and get good in it, too know what your talking about.
there is no ultimate fighting style and there is no easy fighting style, everything takes hard work.
Judo's great , to look at its nothing much , but not notice its deceiving look. Fact is no matter how good your stand up is , if you get into a scrap with a good judo guy your chances of winnin are about as good as fighting a BJJ guy.
Any martial that consists primarally of getting your opponent to the floor are the best in my opinion. What i love about Judo is to look at has no where near the amount of aggression as BJJ but will still destroy any opponent who has no concept of grappling.
Yes and the karate bigots called us wimps as we didn't kick and punch and make a load of noise doing our techniques. I wasn't doing judo at the time but one bigmouthed karate guy at school decided to challenge a judo brown belt and was promptly destroyed on the ground. I'm not knocking karate, but judo can be just as devastating and the throws and ground techniques were designed outside the dojo to cause serious injury or even death to an attacker.
I respectfully disagree. I practice both... and while BJJ and Judo share very similar groundwork. BJJ guys tend to be LOADS less agressive. Take the basic guard pass. In BJJ I was taught to posture up to break the closed guard, control the legs and pass the guard. In Judo I was taught to grab the skin above and to the right of the knee, twist and push until the person on the bottom broke his guard from the pain.
Judo is very aggressive, much more so because of the time limit.
What video are you guys watching? There is no fucking knee bar! And there is no knee bar, leg locks allowed in judo competition, why the fuck would you even think this? Stupid fucks
ppl...learn first....bjj is a subtechnique of judo...judo was first and then bjj was developed..actually it wasnt developed...in brasil carlo gracie emphazise more on newaza rather than nagewaza...learn ppl...thats why i prefer judo...better over bjj...to submit your oppponent you first need to bring him/her down...
well i have trained 4 years in bbj, and now i'm under john saylor,3-time National Judo Champion,2-time Pan American Medalist, 7 year coach of olympic center, and i see stuff in each art that are effective.
true, but i think now BJJ has developed alot on the ground (for example i think the plata moves are pure bjj) they have gone different directions, and can be respected as seperate arts. In fact, bjj did come from judo, but the judo it came from is different than much of today's judo (unless you find a very old school judo instructor) i like both, i train both (as well as 10 years in wrestling) they are different but have the same roots
observe towards the end when the lady in white has managed to hyperextend her opponent's leg... that's a leglock known as the kneebar :) a pretty dangerous lock as well, because you usually don't feel pain till the joint is about to snap.
Great judo.

please stop bieng a biggot about BJJ.
every MA style has its own pros and cons.
its made by the person who preforms it.

That is not an armbar, (and not a leg/knee lock either they are not allowed in Judo), thats a lapel choke and a nice technique I may add!

not everybody is a judo player so this is not common knowledge...
however common human courtesy and kindness is a more universal and common concept that you seem to need to master more then your knowledge of judo.
have a nice day.

lol I thought it was a knee bar as well, until someone mentioned it was a lapel choke.

A knee bar is like a armbar but you do it to the Knee joint
Brazilianjj 4 years ago
LOL tehre is no kneebar there.. thats a chocke.. its called Okuri eri jime. NOT a knee bar..

ooh really? my bad then... i got to learn it.
Judo has really explosive moves, combine that with BJJ's technical newaza and you have a nicely rounded art...
rexregum 4 years ago
no offence to u i respect you even though i dont know you but Judo groundwork is beteer than BJJ
