Your Anime Sucks - Mini-Review - Cobra the Animation

this "review" is too generous, in my opinion. "cobra the animation" sucks. no depth, copy-paste music track, what of a plot?, and cobra is like a 'back-drop' character at best. p.o.s.

@screwaccounts That's fair enough. I didn't mind the new series, but it's not a patch on the original. As far as I'm aware, it is accurate to the source material though - I'm reasonably certain it's all adapted straight from the more recent iterations of the manga. Any drop in the quality of the writing would just be a reflection of that.

@Areashiftybun perhaps if this series is viewed on its own, its merits become more evident. Of course, i'm 'forced' to compare it to the one that i know. Hence my response to it, maybe. There IS a certain 'feel' to this series, that much is certain from my perspective, and that is a good thing in my view. Thanks for your replies.

@Vandal49 That's true, but it's not exactly uncommon in manga. I feel that in Cobra, the female characters are usually at least active in the story, fighting alongside or occasionally against the main character. Sure that's a more positive portrayal than the doe-eyed moe blobs we're so often lumbered with these days?

@kustomkure yea, I don't know where you have to be from to have him sound middle eastern. I don't really know about accents, but he sounds like a native English speaker (to my ears). Possibly Scottish. Or Welsh? (what is a welsh accent anyway?)

Original Cobra anime was awesome. I might check the new one of these days.

WHAT! I mean i still have the original serise to even start watching and i am in love with the movie, Yet to find there is a new cobra in this modern age that sticks to the original. Oh glory anime isnt dead to me.

@Akyho Sadly, the original series has never been licensed and the fansubs for it aren't the best, but the new series and all the OAVs are available for free on crunchyroll. It's well worth checking out :)

@Areashiftybun I KNOW ITS WORTH CHECKING OUT! there was so much of the dark cyberpunk of Space Adventurer cobra that has stuck with me for so long....that an a song in the movie thats keeps makeing me think of Vic Reeves doing guess the interpretive song on Shoot Star's. The Scene were cobra is in the car with the first of three sisters he will be meet. She jump onto him declaring her love and flips the car. The song ont he dub alteast does it Revees manner "ooh ahh I am in love with youuuuu!"

I actually rather liked that. That was quite an informative review. And you're right I was put off by the retro aspect of the show. Still not so sure I'll give it a go but it has given me more to think about.

Nice review mate. I was telling my girlfriend about the original movie and now she want's to watch it but I hear the old movie that I owned on VHS had be re dubbed for the DVD release! Is this true? People say it's been ruined?

I've never actually gotten round to picking up the DVD so I can't say how good or bad it is, but I'm afraid it does seem to be a new dub and it doesn't have the Yello soundtrack either. Sorry man :(

just so you know, the first iteration of cobra was that blue haired dood and there was actaly a series about him. Think the verious iterations of the doctor in doctor who.

Of course, I only know that because I'm a proud member of Something Awful and have full access to it's ADTRW

the original series of the 80's is one of my favorite anime of all time. I am really excited to watch those new movies and the new tv series. But I don't Cobra will ever go mainstream. None of the less it is a great character and for those who missed the original series, trust me it's a gem. The kind os anime you watch on saturday morning while eating your breakfest. Good reviw by the way.
